Supposed to remove the Oil Filter first so the oil in the filter housing runs to the pan and drains out with the rest of the oil. Otherwise you are just contaminating your new oil with a decent amount of old.

    Thoughts on vacuum oil extraction?

  • @AlexMerritt0000

This video misses one crucial point -- amateur folks don't have a car lift. The only place to raise the vehicle (according to the driver manual) are on the pinch welds adjacent to each wheel. If you lift with a jack, where do you put the stand? Hondas and Subarus have a central lift surface just under the engine compartment that allows you to push the entire front of the vehicle up, and then you can put stands on the pinch welds to secure the vehicle. Without this, lifting the VW requires alternative methods: driving onto wedges to lift the vehicle up, or using vacuum extraction. Vacuum is annoying because it is messy and requires always priming the pump. Getting under the VW must be done safely to remove the dirt cover to reach the oil plug. Any suggestions?

Great video but that looks incredibly painful and makes me question owning a VW again. What were those engineers thinking? Did you say you need a 32 mm socket? Where do you get something that big?

32 mm is 1.25 inches John Holmes.

cmetube Most cartridge oil filters use a large socket for the housing. 32mm is not uncommon

Stop trying to throw shade on the VW engineering. It's some of the best you'd find, amateur

So, I've been using liqui moly for many years (not for my newly purchased diesel though). How does this compare to the Ravenol? I'm also very interested in the 20 liter bag in box, seems like a good option. I did research on the internet, and it looks like a close match, do you agree?

Acc to the makers, Ravenol is PAO based oil. Should be better.

5 Liters? Every indication is 4.3 liters. Please advise. Minute 9:40 says "5 liters"

Ryan Fitzgerald the capacity of the oil pan is 5 liters. Factory recommended is 4.3-4.5, but no problem with adding 5 liters on it.

@@OpenTheB0x thank you - yes I ended up putting 5L in and all is OK. Thanks for confirming this. I suppose with the extra oil in there we can drive an extra 1600 (5.0/4.3 which amounts to roughly 1/6 x 10k or 1600) miles between oil changes?

      Hi James,
We'd recommend first checking your user manual for instructions, otherwise a good ol' Google search should also turn up an answer.
