Killswitch is literally the definition of mid 2000s metalcore. They did it better then anyone. Heavy and melodic and they never seem to miss a beat. Still waiting on a full length album that features Jesse and Howard together with Killswitch. A man can only dream 😂
Killswitch as daylight dies Bullet for my valentine the poison As I lay dying an ocean between us All that remains fall of ideals These albums are what shaped me
@@joesmo8086 Fall of Ideals is an absolutely legendary album that also deserves a 10. I also would personally put The Curse by Atreyu as an all time favorite mid 2000s metalcore album that deserves a 10
Sum 41 is the main band that comes to mind when I rock my “Make America Pop Punk Again” shirt. They are such a great show. Lots of energy and sound immaculate
I feel personally Sum 41 does pop punk and metal both amazingly, happy that their next double album will explore both apparently as it's been a while since they did pop punk stuff
when i listened to the RATM album i was just absolutely stunned by how every single song had me obsessed with it, i ended up adding the whole album to my playlist, definitely gonna listen to their other albums
That first Korn album was something special. It opened my eyes to what music could be/do. Listening to Jon cry his eyes out at the end of Daddy for the first time was such a powerful moment. The rest of the songs are bangers, too.
I remember listening to this album for the first time. It was such a unique experience. And yeah. First time listening to "Daddy" was pretty intense. One of the best Nu Metal albums ever for sure and probably the most influential one
I still consider Life is Peachy as my favorite Korn album but the self-titled album is, objectively speaking, just as good...if not better in some parts. As mentioned, the raw, unfiltered emotion in some parts is just insane, almost painful to listen to.
I love that album, but I can't help skipping "Daddy" every time; not because it's a bad song, but because it's too dark, too sad, too disturbing, and too depressing. I listened to that song once, learned about the story behind the lyrics, got sick to my stomach, and made sure I never listened to it again.
Now I’ve been in some pits in my time. But Hatebreed at Download 09 was the only pit I genuinely got tf out of for pure personal survival concerns. I was 17 and people just getting f’d up around me left right and centre, broken noses, blood spatters in the air. I literally did about 60 seconds in there before going “absolute nope” and got tf out of there and just watched from the sidelines. That sh*t was crazy.
Beartooth will always hold a special place in my heart. My all time favorite band. Are they hardcore anymore? Of course not. But Caleb will always produce these amazing, catchy and over the top pop choruses, and fits a breakdown every time. The subject matter is always amazing as well! 🤘🏼
Glad to see I wasn't the only struggling to limit myself when listing all these fantastic albums. I tried to make a "10 albums I would bring to a deserted island", but it quickly became 12 and then I remembered some more that I just had to include :P Sum 41 was such a huge part of my college time (2001-2004), we listened to All Killer, No Filler, Does this look infected? all the time, and Chuck during the final year as well.
I 100% agree that Killswitch is the greatest metalcore band. They are one of the bands that got me into Metal music. Listened to As Daylight Dies countless times without skipping any track back in the day.
Dude I'll never forget seeing the Fixation on The darkness music video on Fuse (the Canadian MTV, which was on in America in some states) and I was just like hell ya, who's this?! Loved it and the whole album. Then Howard came in, and they just went next level. I really miss him as their lead singer. I liked Jesse on Alive or....but honestly haven't loved the albums after Howard left. They've got some good songs. I just miss how they sounded with my boy Howard
I think Underoath is just as good. They have more stuff that I like than Killswitch. Howard's voice is out of this world, and technically they are great while feeling natural. but to me Underoath will always be the greatest. Every single thing about Define the Great Line is just God tier to me. It's the only perfect metalcore album I've ever heard. Spencer sings a lot more now too so it sounds less like Flipping a switch.
Thanks for giving Divine Intervention some love, got it at release and it nested in my brain. Most people never understood how mosh pots were fun. Concussions, bruises, broken nose, almost being paralyzed in Machine Head's pit, admittedly I over do it for a little guy in the pit, but really there is little in life that ive experienced that compares to a good metal mosh pit. Most brutal ... Machine head, Killswitch 2nd. Funnest mosh pit without a doubt Suicidal, funnest show I've been too period out of 30+ years of concerts. Best sound was Heaven and Hell, wow just wow. I could go on and on but won't.
A bit late, but the reason Divine Intervention sounds like that is that they recorded it at 3 different studios, and then tried to match the sounds between different studios and setups
You mentioned Charli XCX, but I would also say Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia is a 10/10 for me. It really surprised me how good ever song is on that album.
These are all legitimate picks, mine would look different In Flames- Whoracle Alice in Chains - Dirt Soundgarden -Superunknown Tool- Aenima KSE- Alive or Just Breathing Machine Head - The Blackening (Hate on Robb Flynn as much as you want, The Blackening got metal album of the decade from the Golden Gods) Pantera-Far Beyond Driven Lorna Shore - Pain Remains Trivium - Shogun Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake
Korn introduced me to metal. And I really love the old stuff, especially because it sounds so dirty. The newer stuff sounds too perfect, almost overproduced.
I love "All killer. No filler" and "Does this look infected" Sum 41 albums. Those are my favourites. Also KoRn Self Titled might be my all time favourite album
Therapy? - Troublegum Lagwagon - Let's Talk About Feelings NOFX - So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters Yes, I'm having the first Foo Fighters album as a 10.
Korn's debut still hits like a ton of bricks. The emotion captured can't be denied. Ross Robinson squeezed out the last drop from Jon Davis & co. A timeless record.
20:05 Zack de la Rocha’s pre RATM band was called Inside Out, the song was called “Burning Fight” come on bro I thought you were perfect and knew everything
Shit, I just put 2 and 2 together on this: Hatebreed, Cincinnati, 2009, Cannibal Corpse. Backstory: I was in a pop-punk/indie band with some friends from high school in 2009 and we entered a summer battle of the bands that was fairly large. We were stoked about it - big promotions and some sizeable crowds showing up. I signed us up for the "Summer Slaughter" battle of the bands thinking the name just had something to do with "battling". Jesus Christ, was I wrong. We showed up to the gig and realized we were a pop-punk band playing with 25 local metal bands all competing for an opening slot to that Hatebreed / Cannibal Corpse show! We made the best of it. Most of the other bands were pretty chill and actually thought it was sort of funny. A few bands said it was actually refreshing to hear a change of pace in the middle of the day and an A&R guy told us we sounded pretty good. To this day, it's probably the biggest show I've played and arguably the best show I've played, because none of us gave a fuck when we realized we didn't even care about winning. Edit: Oh, didn't know you hung with Kam too? He was friends with a few of my friends in Cincinnati and hung out with him a few times.
I realize this isn't a new video, but I have to say that I appreciate the variety here, and you had some great picks. The self-titled from RATM is damn-near perfect, Divine Intervention is a great sleeper pick, and As Daylight Dies is peak metalcore. Also, I have huge respect for Charli XCX. I've tried to get into that record, and it didn't really click for me, which is a shame, cause I really wanted to like it. I think that's only because I'm not the biggest hyperpop fan, but it is a very creative record, and I would agree that she does that sound the best
The original release of As Daylight Does was easily a 10/10. Then they released the special edition, which broke the scale for me. Especially "Let The Bridges Burn", I don't understand how that song didn't make the original cut.
I think I've said thisBefore.. when I first started playing in a band Jamie lived up the street from me.. they're already famous and we used to go see him at toad's place all the time in New Haven
Check out Flymore from Russia, you may sometimes forget its not Korn. The sound is there from the first 4 korn albums, vibe, lyrics and vocals all VERY similar.
I love all KoRn's albums except for Korn III, and Path of totality. I like a few songs off of both those records, but my favorite KoRn albums are the last 3 from 2016 to 2022.. Been a metalhead for 14 years almost, and my favorite albums over the decade would be: 1) Children Of Bodom- Are You Dead Yet? 2) Between The Buried And Me- Alsska, And The Great Misdirect 3) Periphery 1, 2, 3, and 4 4) Attack Attack! Self Titled album 5) Beartooth - Aggressive 6) Escape The Fate- Self Titled, Ungrateful, Hate Me 7) Loathe- The Cold Sun, I let it in and it took everything 8) Cradle Of Filth- Cruelty and the beast, Evermore Darkly 9) Arch Enemy- Khaos Legions 10) Moonspell- Extinct There's tons more of bands but yeuh.. I love Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Zeal and Ardor, Opeth, Parkway Drive etc... Edit: As a individual Metalhead, I can't stop thinking about Metal, breathing it, working to it, sleeping to it etc... So personally for me you are correct Punk Rock MBA.
Hatebreeder is for sure my fav Children of Bodom album...but that's still a solid choice. Btw, maybe I'm different to other metal fans but I'm fully capable of listening to other genres and going weeks, if not months without listening to metal or thinking about metal. Maybe it's because I was into '80s & early '90s pop, breakbeat and hip hop music long before I ever discovered metal but suffice to say that I'm not obsessed with it and I don't really care when people criticize it or its fans. If anything, I find it amusing.
Both the end of broken heart album and beartooths first ep and album are literally some of the greatest pieces of art I’ve ever consumed, Who else cries mid fuckin song with ranges of emotion like Caleb, And who has the lyrical ability to match the voice the way Howard does. They’re iconic and underrated and that’s ever special to return too a decade late and look back at
As fucking IF you just said Tony Robbins core!! I swear to God, about 6 weeks ago I put on The Fall Of Ideals for the first time in years and smoked a blunt for the first time in months and as The Weak Willed played I laughed out loud cuz i thought to myself "These lyrics sound like a motivational speaker... It's like Tony Robbins Core", and since then I keep using it to describe shit like this haha!! Wow, great minds think alike, huh, bud ;) All the best, do a History of Shai Hulud vid sometime :P
Respect for the Beartooth praise, such a good album! I saw these guys multiple times at Warped Tour and they were consistently one of the best and most energetic sets of the whole tour!
I don't know how RUclips defines "views" but I'd say 95% of those for Chaoseum are people like 'hey bro, check these guys out, they sound just like Korn' and their friend listens to like 30 seconds, agrees, and turns it off.
Altought nowadays i'm more of a fan of death, thrash and grind, Killswitch Engage will always have a spot in my heart. From 2002 to 2006 they put out 3 almost flawless records.
Hey Finn this is totally off topic, but I just wanted to say thanks for the "punkrockmba" SeatGeek promo code. The Lorna Shore dates for Florida all sold out and this allowed me to get a ticket for Tampa without spending a ton of money. Side note I'd be interested in a deep dive on Machine Head/Robb Flynn since he's usually so polarizing. I personally love them even though I'm pretty conservative, cheers brother
I'm really happy you said Divine Intervention. A lot of Slayer fans were turned off by it but I found it to be better than a lot that followed it and I love almost all Slayer. Btw, I wanna say that Kerry King wrote the lyrics to "Dittohead." Plus, even though I prefer Lombardo, Bostaph is a goddamned beast.
To this day, every year when it's the first day of early summer, where it's hot enough that I can go outside in both a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, I put on "All killer". It's my summer record. And then I don't listen to it at all for 3/4 of the year. It's great, break out the dickies shants, put on the Sums.
OK here are some of mine: Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, Dead Kennedys Nevermind, Nirvana In Utero, Nirvana Enema of the State Songs for the Death, Queens of the Stone Age The Slim Shady LP, Eminem Enter The Wu-Tang, Wu-Tang Clan Foo Fighter, Foo Fighters Adios Amigos, Ramones The Libertines, The Libertines just a few off the top of my hat
As Daylight Dies is extremely underrated. Obviously overshadowed by the 2 previous albums by a lot of people. But it’s the one I find myself returning to more than any other KSE release.
I still remember when As Daylight Dies came out. My dad let me skip school so we could go pick it up. Came with free shirt which still fits to this day, I was in 7th grade when I got it, 29 now lol. And then we went to see a couple guys from Non Point do a little show in the basement of The Thirsty Moose in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Good times.
Just recently listened to All Killer, No Filler for the first time - from start to finish - in my life, and my God does it hold up. So. Fucking. Well. It shits on 95% of the pop-punk albums that have came out in the last 20 years.
Omg ccs was my favorite I remember spending so much time looking at all the shoes and boards I could never afford as a kid then I got older and forgot about ccs and then randomly one day when I was about 26 ish I remembered ccs existed and decided to buy shoes I bought like 5 pairs and I still have all 5 pairs 😂 it’s been like 7-8 years since then and out of those 5 pairs of shoes only one pair is getting to a point where I can wear them much haha
.. when they play at home at toads place people f****** go off. They are violent as s*** but when you fall people help you out.. they're lyrics really are very uplifting. Jamie Mainly writes about overcoming struggle. In a nutshell. Lol
I left a comment on a previous top 10 albums stating I can't believe you didn't have korn on there.. then I came across this video. I take it back! 100% agreed! Korn self entitled is one the best albums front to back.
When a band like Killswitch can successfully “fool” a listener that doesn’t know better into thinking that there are two vocalist, much like early underoath with Spencer and Aaron, that’s when you know the frontman is pure talent and diverse.
As Daylight Dies was my first metal album ever. heard their song The End of Heartache from watching Resident Evil Apocalypse and decided to head to walmart and bought As Daylight Dies to check out more of their music. Had the album on repeat for weeks while poring over the lyric booklet. Couldn't have picked a better starting point for my journey into metal music!
Life Is Peachy is unhinged af lol. I love it but I can see how some people may skip a song or two. Perhaps some people don’t like Wicked with Chino Moreno or others don’t like the quirky funky interludes (which I love). But I agree Life Is Peachy is wildly entertaining
For the same reasons you don’t think hatebreeds first album is a 10 is the reason I don’t find KORN’s self titled to be a 10. The band had a massive impact on my life, I think the writing on life is peachy is so much darker and heavier . And it’s the type of album to keep you in a bad place. Like the song mister Rogers is SO UNDERATTED. The song is just about JD being zooted on coke and thinking mister Rogers as the devil. But the song is written in a way where it could be taken as an adult figure taking advantage of their position of power and abusing trust. The feral screaming on chi and good god are almost rabid. The only critique I have of the album is that the entire thing is just intro, verse, chorus , verse, outro. To be fair I love noise, grind, no wave, power violence. The level of noise and anger on life is peachy is what makes it a 10 to me
18:41 and Paul Bostaph is a BEAST of a drummer. I esp. love that kick drum sound, punches through the mix. Modern metal production is so fine-tuned, it would be impossible to have a kick sound this in your face with the blast beats that most modern metalcore drummers perform.
It's an album I slept on for a while but their best overall? No way...I have to give that award to South of Heaven or Seasons in the Abyss. I know most Slayer stans would give that title to Reign in Blood but I have to disagree. Divine Intervention does have some sick riffs and hooks though and it definitely does gets overlooked. Worth a listen for anyone who hasn't checked it out by now.
In California, Rage did a benefit show for Peltier. Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, X, Quicksand, Mother Tongue, and Stanford Prison Experiment. Tickets were ridiculously cheap and the shirts at the show were only $8. That was a great show.

Machine Head - The Blackening (Hate on Robb Flynn as much as you want, The Blackening got metal album of the decade from the Golden Gods)

Maybe it's because I was into '80s & early '90s pop, breakbeat and hip hop music long before I ever discovered metal but suffice to say that I'm not obsessed with it and I don't really care when people criticize it or its fans. If anything, I find it amusing.
Both the end of broken heart album and beartooths first ep and album are literally some of the greatest pieces of art I’ve ever consumed,
Who else cries mid fuckin song with ranges of emotion like Caleb,
And who has the lyrical ability to match the voice the way Howard does.
They’re iconic and underrated and that’s ever special to return too a decade late and look back at
Happy to see Beartooth getting some respect, I love them and Disgusting is for sure a 10/10 for me
Not lying when I say sum 41 was one of the tipping points for me going to wwwy next year. Just have to hear some all killer no filler live
Tallah does Korn influenced stuff
As fucking IF you just said Tony Robbins core!! I swear to God, about 6 weeks ago I put on The Fall Of Ideals for the first time in years and smoked a blunt for the first time in months and as The Weak Willed played I laughed out loud cuz i thought to myself "These lyrics sound like a motivational speaker... It's like Tony Robbins Core", and since then I keep using it to describe shit like this haha!! Wow, great minds think alike, huh, bud ;) All the best, do a History of Shai Hulud vid sometime :P
Dude I haven’t thought of CCS since 5th grade… wow flood of memories
Korn selftitled WAS MY LIFE! haahaha still love it!
Become the Fuse surprised me. Thank you Finn! Glad I found your channel and you’re local lol
Man said ccs catalog I miss those so much I thought the world had forgotten about em hahahaha
I audibly gasped when he said that lol I miss that shit so much as a kid. I wanted everything lol
With what you said about Hatebreed having violet shows, Alpha Wolf has been turning a lot of heads with that kind of slaughtering as well
Finn never disappoints with his hot takes.
Chat Pile does a good job sounding like Korn while also sounding completely unique
Respect for the Beartooth praise, such a good album! I saw these guys multiple times at Warped Tour and they were consistently one of the best and most energetic sets of the whole tour!
Perseverance is my favorite Hatebreed album, but this one is great.
Charlie XCX is a goated hook writter. I didn't even know those two but Boom Clap and Break the Rules are so catchy
Damn right about Killswitch Engage!
Also, I'd love to see a Strapping Young Lad video, I'm curious about your opinion.
Korn korn is a phenomenal album.
I don't know how RUclips defines "views" but I'd say 95% of those for Chaoseum are people like 'hey bro, check these guys out, they sound just like Korn' and their friend listens to like 30 seconds, agrees, and turns it off.
😂 My cousin: “ hey foo, these foo’s sound like Korn”
Me: “oh shit!”
Cousin: “whack…”
Me: “whack “
BFMV the poison is one of those albums for me
Their best album, SAF and fever were good but not THAT good
I’ve never really dug BFMV
Haven't been much of a fan of them, but loved that album. Most stuff after it tho, only liked a song here n there. This was their best for sure
@@jasonking971 Im in the same boat

Altought nowadays i'm more of a fan of death, thrash and grind, Killswitch Engage will always have a spot in my heart. From 2002 to 2006 they put out 3 almost flawless records.
how about The Dillinger Escape Plan? Did Finn every talk about them? they got some incredibly creative 10/10 albums.
TOTALLY AGREE ON SLAYER'S DIVINE INTERVENTION. This shit is just the best album they've put out. It just sounds just so dry, brutal, violent...
Fear Factory-Obsolete/Kidneythieves-Zerospace/Ultraspank-Ultraspank/Anyone-Anyone/Hed PE-Hed PE/Roxy Saint Underground Personality Tapes
@5:00
I think I fought those guys in Unreal Tournament 2003
The minimalist version of early beartooth was brilliant!
OK here are some of mine:
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, Dead Kennedys
Nevermind, Nirvana
In Utero, Nirvana
Enema of the State
Songs for the Death, Queens of the Stone Age
The Slim Shady LP, Eminem
Enter The Wu-Tang, Wu-Tang Clan
Foo Fighter, Foo Fighters
Adios Amigos, Ramones
The Libertines, The Libertines
just a few off the top of my hat
Very good stuff here, but in my opinion not 10s
As Daylight Dies is extremely underrated. Obviously overshadowed by the 2 previous albums by a lot of people. But it’s the one I find myself returning to more than any other KSE release.
I still remember when As Daylight Dies came out. My dad let me skip school so we could go pick it up. Came with free shirt which still fits to this day, I was in 7th grade when I got it, 29 now lol. And then we went to see a couple guys from Non Point do a little show in the basement of The Thirsty Moose in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Good times.
Great story and memories 💯🤘 ty
Just recently listened to All Killer, No Filler for the first time - from start to finish - in my life, and my God does it hold up. So. Fucking. Well. It shits on 95% of the pop-punk albums that have came out in the last 20 years.
Nobody sounds like Korn? god damnit! as I was typing this you referenced Chasoeum
Slayer said in interview they spent many hours in their tour van listening to Rush Limbaugh.
9:20 knocked loose by a mile for heaviest shows
“Farting on Todd” could definitely be a band name.
Yes! The S/T Hatebreed album is the best. If I'm picking 10's off the top of my head, pick almost any The Ghost Inside album, or "Satellite" by P.O.D.
No joke, "Satellite" is still a no skip, but endless replay
also my favorite Killswitch Engage album and a top 5 metalcore album of all time mmm
Korn self titled is 10/10 but Life is Peachy is a 100/10
Life Is Peachy is unhinged af lol.
The level of noise and anger on life is peachy is what makes it a 10 to me
Peachy is underrated for sure. Untouchables too in my opinion.
Great take. Life Is Peachy js the most Korn album to me
Chad, Kyle, Cody, and Carson are all lawyers now and that is the name of their firm.
Slayer is my favorite band. DI is the last great no-skips album they ever made. Fantastic fu*king album.
18:41 and Paul Bostaph is a BEAST of a drummer. I esp. love that kick drum sound, punches through the mix. Modern metal production is so fine-tuned, it would be impossible to have a kick sound this in your face with the blast beats that most modern metalcore drummers perform.
Helmet Meantime.....10!
For me Divine Intervention is the best Slayer album.
Adema was sounding like korn back then, also I think, stainds dysfunction is similar in sound to Lorna debut.
Blind main riff is a remake of Scapegoat by Fear Factory
Better band too.
Damn, what a sick show that must've been. Would've loved to see something like that for only $8!!
Tom Morello should’ve quit while he was ahead.
Also, Disgusting was an album that was basically healing from all the pain left from Attack!Attack!
Holy crap, I forgot about the CCS catalog. Deep cuts.
