Thank you for being on RUclips and making great RC videos! We watched the coverage of axialfest 2019 and the entire Cherokee build series, we got my fiancé the builders kit because of it and have had a great time getting it together.
@@RCGirl Under enough torque, the axle itself can rotate, causing extreme bending of the leaf spring, and possibly failure. Usually happens when you get caught up on an obstacle and apply power. Putting a helper on top of the main one can help to reduce that. Otherwise, get an anti-wrap bar. Watch my latest Road to Scale Nats video for more information. While leafs are definitely older tech, they can still be made to perform pretty well!
I personally wasn't that interested in a leaf spring conversion until Matt (SBG) and you (RCG) made your videos; but, now I am inspired. Great video! Probably your best to date.
Just FYI, leafs are always really stiff at first. But over time, they will soften up quite a bit after being broken in. Heck, my Trail Finder 2's leafs are TOO soft now after about 2 years lol
Also to help the leaf springs perform better put rubber o-rings between the leafs and where they mount to the axle. Also grind the eyelets to a v shape, squeeze the eyelets into a oval shape and use some fuel line in the like bushings. SBG said put one of the larger helper springs on top to help with anti rap.
Cantilever rear shock mounted shock setup would be best so no need to cut holes for shock towers...the shocks run flat with the frame rails ...I'm sure someone already has mentioned it . Great videos ...keep it up
I got my b-friend into rc & I do all the maintenance on our rigs as well as the custom bodies I did for our Honchos( mine has more upgrades than his too teehee). Great job
I am a leaf spring guy , once you get used to them you will like them too . It will make you pick your line a little different but it is more scale , and make a tool box for the back to hide the shock towers .
Great vid! Personally I would have purchased the SCX 10 II raw builders kit to do this build. That kind of explains why I have 20+ RC's and 10+ crawlers?
Working on the leaf spring chassis for a custom build. Love your channel and love having a female so into RC. You ROCK!!! Way to go, can't wait to see the finished truck and get your take on how it handles compared to the axial link/coil spring set up
Bring that bad boy to a National Rock Racing Associations event, and watch some RC rock bouncer racing. They’re always at off road parks, so you can imagine the trails are limitless. Great video!
I have that dinky kit, and I'm not that impressed with it, you can always lay the shocks forward, or go with a smaller scale rc4wd shock to help minimize damage to the bed, though I'm hoping rc4wd releases a rear only conversion for the scx10ii, it would help with scale builds
I'm going to be very interested in seeing how this Suspension WORKS. Certainly Scale!! 👍👍 One advantage I already see over a stock RC4WD Rig... Shocks that actually dampen shocks!! It will naturally be stiffer than Coils, but looks like you still have half decent travel. Should be intriguing! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Hmmm good question... might be worth asking the RC4WD support... but if you keep the front suspension as is, the links don't attach anywhere to the rails (just the skid and axles which would remain the same0, so it should conceivably work.
@@RCGirl That's what I was thinking since as you said, the links don't attach to the frame except the panhard bar (if you can call it a link). Someone on shapeways makes different inner fenders for the XJ that have coil spring buckets that go with a bucket set for the axle. Seperate shock and spring, add rear leafs, BOOM! MEGA-scale points! EDIT: MrCommaD makes them on Shapeways.
Excellent video production quality! New to scale crawlers, just built a Element Enduro for my son and a Axial SCX10 for his best friend. Curious about scale points, especially about doing this mod. Also, are you going to make a side by side video comparison like the Traxxas weighted hubs video?
The whole leaf spring deal is cool for scale looks but personally id of kept the scx10-2 with the 4 link and picked up a rc4wd stomper chassis. The stomper already has leafs and a superb transmission. That way you could run a linked truck or a leaf truck.
You might be able to drill holes for the front bumper post and replace the body one with it.. Also use grub screws to mount the body. Matt of SBG has a tuning video on leaf springs.
Bobaque Altered RC that’s what I’m doing. I’m making a scale whistlindiesel go cart build. I’m making mine out of aluminum. And using lawnmower recoil spring for the leafs. I should have a video on mine soon. It’s going to be my tow rig.
Nice job! Love the body color, but Tamiya must be color blind, as Field Gray is definitely green. Thanks for the links, lots of good parts & info there.
Hey, Love the build!! i am in the beginning stages of an RC4WD D90 build was wondering if you have the color code for the green you used on this Yota Body, Thanks,
Already like this series you decided to do. Look forward to seeing the rest. Have you considered doing a raw builders kit in the future to utilize the Jeep Cherokee body?
Great video and very informative. Great presentation and close up camera work illustrates your work will. You definitely are putting me to shame knowledge wise, but its okay, just fine. I learned a lot on this video. I also think you are extremely pretty, with due respect. Thankyou for a great learning experience!
I'm sorry but I gotta say "Guy standing right in front of leafs in a hydraulic press" with no cage etc LOL ! I'm an HD diesel Mech and builder and I LOVE THAT !! Oh yea, nice job here yada yada yada (hehehehe) ! Sub'd. Just saw Your Corsair video. Your neat lol.
This is a nice option if you are going for maximum Class 1 SORRCA scale points but it’s not for me 3 & 4 Link for life 🤟😝🤙 Someone was making an IFS setup for the SCX10ii between this and that I kinda wanna do a modern style pickup body like a Colorado ZR2 or Ford Raptor with IFS and rear leaf spring setup For some reason it would probably suck on the rocks but it’s 🙃
For using the leaf springs, Wouldn't be a good idea to add some weight to ur truck to balance leaf spring stiffness & vehicle weight? Cause other wise, aren't you just going to end up with a really stiff ride & pretty much no articulation? *Unless that's what your wanting this to be*
Are the frame rails any different except some mounting holes. (I just had an auto-translate-hilarity: in german, there are two different words for the spring that connects the axle to the frame and the one that connects winter to summer. The program picked the wrong ole)
Hey Rc Girl, would you think that multi layered leaf springs in a plastic would be more realistic than a single bit of steel? I like your hair by the way :) I wanted to pause so I could count the specs on your arms but that'd be well weird wouldn't it? Maybe it's just so rare to see Rc Girl in the world lol, hey just messing you know ya stuff and methodically work well and make it all very efficient. Cheers.
Hi Rc girl, If theres any chance on doing a vedio on a IFS, For I heard they have a IFS suspension out as well for the front suspension on the axial scale truck.
Echo of the voice In the wilderness I’m making a homemade chassis using ifs in the front and a solid axle in the rear on a ladder frame chassis. Ifs is much more complicated than a solid axle. Way more for scale looks Which I’m doing.
@@RCGirl I started a channel for my daughter and I tried a few and I couldn't figure them out lol and I tried to use the one ty uses at tekin and bought a subscription lol and couldn't figure it out. I'm not tech savvy at all. Then he suggested to just get a gopro 7 and use the editing software that comes with it . But I see you do some good editing and figured I'd ask. Thanks , I'll look into it
I'm not sure on that Cherokee maybe you should just do rear leaf Springs like the real Cherokees I'm just bias because that's what I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee I just bought my kit a couple weeks ago gonna build it this weekend Love watching you have a great weekend
But, you don’t have the Cherokee anymore? I have several cars and a few Cherokees, they are really cool. I can’t imagine changing one all that much. Anyway, very cool modification of an existing chassis.
Great video RC Girl. You always provide useful info!

That's awesome to hear!!
Put a helper spring on top of the main leaf, will help prevent some axle wrap!
Thanks for the tip! Dumb question, but what is axle wrap!?

good tip. i made anti-wrap bars for mine. definitely dont wanna bend those nice leafs outta shape.
I left my upper links in, you really only need one but the links will keep em place decently

Great video as usual. Love the level of detail you get in to about components used.

That new truck body looks quite cool looking forward to see the performance with the new leaf springs. Cheers!
Finally found another girl who RC's on RUclips!
Karen Davis yeah, where is everyone?
Your enthusiasm really comes through. Thanks for all the vids
one more trick if you mount your rear shocks on the lockouts you don't need to cut the bed for the shock towers
Nicely done! I will do later the leaf spring mod on my BRX01 / Toyota LC70 definitely! Cheers, N.

You need a bigger bottle of thread locker ! Thanks for the video. Lots of good ideas.
haha!!! I got this for $1.21 on hobbyking . I didn't look that big in the online photo
I believe Dinky RC has a cantilever setup that uses 1/16 Revo suspension. Don't cut up the bed!
I have it on one of my kits and swapped the bellcrank for a aluminum revo/twin hammers one

Hello, awsum videos .sweet 4 door mojave , I'm bout too start build. Wat mounts did u use on scx 10 ? I'm gonna get scx10 3 builders kit .
Great job! RC Girl I think you would like to see my homemade 49cc RC car 😁
You should plant a seed in that little bucket in the back. That would be pretty neat.
Great conversion. Would be nice of you could make the rear shocks so that you don't have to cut the bed
Hey it's been a long time,I see u have come along way since the first traxxas. Very nice conversion 👍
Get rid of the stock body bumper. Cut everything under the grill and use the bumper you have on the chassis
Good video! Leafs are so much fun! If you ever do any work on a TF2 let us know. We make a few parts that transform them into Comp rigs. #AandMGarage

Leafsprings is best on rc trucks if the truck is heavier than usual.

right common sense is a LIFT SPRING...
not leaf spring

Nice to see a girl do this 😇
Hey mam, what a. Awesome cherokee, where did you buy the inner fenders? Cheers from Denmark.
Where did you get the axel spring punches ?
If you had kept the XJ body, you want more scale points, the front is not leaf spring just the rear. Front uses coil springs.
Nice job
Siiick video!!!
Why did you have to replace the frame rails?
I like this kit no doubt! Are you going to USTE?
Hey ! Since you are not using the Jeep Body anymore...have you ever considered selling it??
Is it posable to just have leaf springs on the back with that conversion, looks awesome still
I think so - but worth asking RC4WD support to be sure

Why leaf springs? Arent coil shocks better?
