Honda CRV’s Apple CarPlay Issue - Often Doesn’t Work - No Solution Yet

- I make this short video to discuss Honda’s Apple CarPlay issue with its CRV‘s. I recently got a 2018 Honda CRV - the EX edition , and I was unaware when I purchased it that they were having problems with Apple CarPlay working. Shortly after I purchased the car, I guess Honda dealerships did get something from the corporate headquarters informing them of the issue. I’ve been told there is no solution yet to the problem. When I find out there is, I’ll be sure to share it here. Thanks so much for watching and please subscribe to our RUclips channel, NVAFAM. Thanks!
I have a 2017 Honda CRV. I had the same issues and I reached out to Apple. They recommended removing the aftermarket cord I was using and only using an Apple Original White cord. Once the cords were switched I haven’t had any issues since. Apple explained that since the communicator box isn’t being used then the only thing communicating for the phone to the car is the cord and the original white apple cord is best. I also was told by Honda to allow the vehicle to go through its start up cycle and once I see the system completely started up and the message come on the screen “no device connected” then connect my phone. That plugging the phone in before the system gets through its start up cycle can cause problems. Since doing this also I haven’t had any issues.
So thanks for telling us how you fixed the problem yourself. What a waste of time.
Seriously.
Thanks for this video, I bought a 2018 Honda CRV, and it happened to me as well. I love the car too, and the same issue happened to me. I did take the car into the dealership, and they were nice enough to reset and they were willing to work with me. Thanks for the video.... It put me at ease.
Well I bought a 2018 honda civic 1 months 1/2 ago and im having the same problem disconnects after a few mins
Hi. Mine didn't have any issues whit Apple Car Play but gets disconnected from my Android phone saying that can't be connected via Bluetooth
Having the same problem with my Honda Civic, purchased 2 weeks ago. Apple CarPlay was the main reason I bought my car so I was very disappointed when mine started malfunctioning. I’m using an Apple cord so I have no idea what else i can do to fix it.
I just bought a 2020 CRV black edition. The CarPlay worked for the first week and suddenly stopped. I can’t figure out how to fix it
Just bought a 2020 CRV Touring last month. Same issue. I have to keep resetting the head unit. 😡😡😡
I have the same issue. Used apple oem cord and it still happens. Rebooting the head unit doesn’t work. What a waste of time trying to bring it in. It’s intermittent so it’s difficult to bring it in when there’s no fix for it.
I've seen multiple posts about problems with CarPlay not working. In my case it was with my iPhone 8Plus and a brand new Honda CRV EXL.
I tried everything I read online about how to fix and nothing worked. I showed all the posted comments and recommendations to a Honda employee - and he did something no one else had mentioned and it worked. SO.......
Go to your settings, General, Restrictions and select "Disable Restrictions" (it's important that you select the Disable Restrictions button at the top, not just the listed CarPlay app). Then connect your phone -- . In my case, it immediately recognized the phone and started CarPlay. I then disconnected the phone, went back to settings and enabled the restrictions, reconnected the phone and boom, it again recognized and started CarPlay. I haven't had a problem since.
I hope it works for you!
Where is this? I have an IPhone 6 Plus and brand new car. Literally 2 days old. Car play stopped. I don’t know where this setting is :/
my new crv also has the same problem, it did not work 100% when i plug in the caple
I JUST bought this car Saturday. Was on way home from the gym tonight and had same problem. My phone wouldn’t connect. Two days and already having this problem. I DO have an authentic Apple charger so that’s not the problem.
Hi, I’m really sorry to hear that! Having now had the car for almost a year, I find the problem comes and goes - often correcting itself just by my turning the car off and then back on. Most of the time it does work. However, I do find the panel is quirky and even when I’m connected, only a small percentage of time can I access all the apps I installed on it. I also think the GPS stinks. I was quickly back to using my Garmin! Hopefully it starts working regularly for you. FYI, I’ve used both genuine and non-genuine Apple cords! I didn’t find a difference. As long as the cord is okay, you should be able to connect - at least theoretically!!
NVA Fam Well I ended up taking the car back to Honda. It took them a few minutes, but they did a factory reset and it fixed it. So try going to your settings on your panel, then system (I think) then do factory reset. Hope that works for you!
I have a 2020 CRV and with the same problem. I have tried a new apple cable. Not related to this issue, I also upgraded my iPhone from a 10 to a 12. The problem still persists.
I had the exact same problem my solution was to buy an authentic Apple charging cable not an aftermarket one I’ve not had a problem ever again.
jaymeal123 Exactly!
But I do use an authentic Apple charging cable and it still won't work. 😢
Buy and authentic Apple phone then!..lol
Is it still working with the apple cable?
nadinepabst yup works perfect!!!
my screen sometimes goes blank when i connect to carplay. The iphone recent s/w upgrade fixed this issue. mine is 2018 crv exl.
I just bought a Honda Fit a few months ago. Love it. It has Apple CarPlay, which worked just fine until yesterday. Now It's not coming up with Apple CarPlay on the dashboard, although I'm using a new Apple cord. After doing everything suggested on the help sites I saw, I noticed someone in the comments here suggested resetting to factory default for the car settings. After doing that, it seems to have fixed the issue. For now anyway...
Jason how do you do that? I have the same issues
@@michaelindig2525 Been a while since I did it, so not 100% sure, but I think I did a factory reset on the stereo. Believe this is done by holding the stereo power button in for a few seconds, but check your manual.
+NVA Fam
I have a 2018 CRV EX-L with the exact same problem. I bought the car in November and it just started NOT recognizing my iPhone 7+ a few days ago. It's intermittent, actually. It'll work a couple times, but then it'll stop. It's 1:30AM right now, so I think I'll try some of the suggestions posted here tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your vid and info. Didn't realize that this seems to be a common issue.
This is absolute bullshit. I am in process of being in discussion with corporate about returning the car. I’m surprised you are so calm about the issue.
Is a Honda ripoff to make you upgrade to the GPS model.
I do use the wire from Apple and this still happens to me.
I use the cable that came with my iphone, i have used two different iphones on two different networks, reset phone settings multiple times, have reset everything on the car that I could, my carplay is still not working reliably.
Have you found a resolution? I was thinking about it, and my 21,500 purchase (2017 civic coupe ex-t) all hinged on two features - proximity key and carplay. Carplay has been effectively nonfunctioning for me. proximity key has its own issues. My family has been buying hondas since the early 80s. I dont think I will ever buy a honda again unless they can make this right. I should have gotten the focus ST
I forgot to mention I have taken it into the dealer 3 times.
Yes you should 100% only use Apple Charging Cables when connecting to your Vehicle.
I had issues in a vehicle I was driving and after Talking to the Apple Store they said if you use the Cord that comes with the phone it should connect better.
After only using Apples Cord I have not had any issue.
Very useful.I have the same problem and find it frustrating (CRV 2018, 1.5 turbo, AWD top of the line) Also I miss a lot a CD player function! Like you I find the CRV is mechanically ok and fairly comfortable and quiet on soft pavement. BUT shame on Honda for totally neglecting noise cancellation padding on doors and roof! Every rain drop can be heard distinctly, which makes listening to the radio an exercice in futility. Paper thin metal and non existing insulation (doors, roof) make the car a primitive vehicule. I regret buying the car instead of a RDX (slightly more expensive) or a Forester. Prospective Honda CR-V buyers caveant! Coming out of a Camry because of hip problems has been both costly and disappointing.
Hi, has your crv experience any oil dilusion problems? I’ve heard alot of problems involving oil dilusions with the ex and above models of these cars. Thanks!
Hi, I am having to get oil changes more than every 3 months, and it’s ridiculous how often I need to get gas. My travel is all very local, so this doesn’t make sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is something going on! And worst of all, about 6 months ago I had to replace all the tires! They didn’t even last 2 years! Okay, I’m done my venting for the day!! :)
They all have the oil problem. Honda claims they fixed it with the news ones but it is a lie.
Mine freezes up constantly, says no device connected, or says connected but doesn't work and wont resync. Honda needs to fix this pos, and get wireless carplay working. I heard a hard reset fixes the corrupt whatever
Got the same issue my Crv 2020😥😥😥 indeed I’m love the car also my kids and wife but 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Thanks 🙏
I just bought a 2018 Hybrid Accord & having the problem on the first drive out with my phone connected. I'm going to buy an Apple cord to ensure that this is the issue.
I tried a different cable and upgrading my phone to 11.4. So far smooth sailing.
Still happening in December 2021 with 2021 Honda CR-V
Just bought a brand new Pilot and have the exact same issue. We bought an Apple cord as well (OEM) and it still doesn't work.
Check to see if there is a firmware update for the head unit.
If my IPhone is connected via USB cable, at start up, it automatically starts playing my phones Itune list. I understand that if you were listening to a Podcast before turning the car off the same would happen. There needs to be some way to turn that option off on my CRV.
Still a problem with the 2021 HONDA CRV EX-L.
You have to do a factory reset from settings you then will get a msg that says .”this system has lost power “ hold the audio button for a few seconds .then viola Apple car play back , but I did have phone connected while doing this ...hope this helps somebody
shema E how do you do a factory reset? I have a Honda Fit and CarPlay stopped working for me around two weeks ago.
Michael Indig go to settings it will ask if you want to do a factory reset select yes ,but before doing this make sure you have an actual Apple cord/charger and Not a generic one
Hi. My carplay doesn’t work for almost weeks.. can’t access maps or anything.. I did this to my Honda CRV 2018! I long pressed the volume/audio button until screen shows up “do you want to rebooth...etc” something like that then click “yes” and then there you go. Thanks much!
Bought mine in December of 20 and just had a connection problem today 1/20/21.
i have a 2018 Honda Accord and i have the same issue.
It is not Honda issue, it is an Apple issue. Every time there is an update from apple you need to do a hard reset/restart on your IPhone. You do this by holding the power button and the home button at the same time until the phone shuts off and restarts with the apple logo. Then let go. Plug the apple play cord from the car again and apple play will work as normal.
which version of ios is more stable?
I did that and still have issues.
I have the same problem with my crv 2020.
Just rebute it
Press the volume button and it will work 😘
Didn’t work
U didn't press the bottom on the screen the said applecar....
I had the same car model and year. I fixed this issue by resetting the display from the settings menu. It will reboot into android based operating system and it take around 10 minutes and I got it to work back again. I hold no responsibility for any misuse you might face but in my case it worked.

This is a link to another RUclips video that may help you with any issues in the future. I rebooted my infotainment center and it solve the problem completely. Better late than never. I just found your video the other day then I found this one. Good luck
Did Honda ever help you out? It sure seems Honda is doing what they can to blame Apple even though the CarPlay works in the other vehicles we own. This prevent Honda from stepping up and fixing the problem.
Honda isn't going to do a thing. They will find a way to blame it on Apple. How could you like anyone working at a car dealership?
The dealership told me to use an Apple only manufactured cord and it works.
It happened to me with my samsung s9 here in Peru.
Same thing with mine...from Malaysia.
Honda always let it us down on something my battery went dead just before warranty expired luckily they replaced at no charge.
And I have the same problem with Bluetooth
Make sure to plug in to the USB with a phone icon.
You talk waaaayy too much. Just say you had this problem and that there is no solution yet. DONE!
Leave her alone.
Says the old fart with the screen name of "Blasterpants" LMAO
That's right Castrato.
Ivan Castro you are a jerk
Right on. What else would you expect from a woman?
I know how fix it cuz I fixed mine I was getting issues with my android to and I fixed
howd you fix it
just go to the Iphone and disconnect carplay on phone and then reconnect phone to car and problem solved.
The problem is your cord. You must use Apple IPhone OEM cord.
David Eb it happens with apple cords too.
I'm not surprised. This is the worst infotainment system I've ever owned.
