We're enjoying this series especially since we're following the same path from Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis, Md to south Florida. Thanks for showing the way!!
I've taken the swamp route before w a 6'+ draft. Zero problems. The perk is Elizabeth City. That town is very cruiser friendly. Nice town dock w wifi. Volunteer s who offer to take you wherever you need to go. Decent restaurants very close, same w CVS and groceries. Highly recommended this route!
Very nice. You two make a handy crew. I've taken my 44 tug trawler from NJ to Fla 2x. U/W by October 1. I've always viewed the AICW as muggy, buggy, and sluggy (tho I've never run through it). This video kind of confirmed that. I don't have the mast or draft problems of a sailing vessel but I prefer to run outside. Weather is the big concern but if ya get a good 4-5 day stretch you do ok. I've laid up in marinas as many as 4 days waiting on weather but I'm usually not pressed for time.
Hey guys, I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I live really close to the ICW (yall went right past my house) and my dream is to sail/cruise it from Norfolk to Stuart, FL someday. Great video, thanks!
Hi, This is a little late for your benefit but we went via the dismal swamp in the fall of 2020. After we left the swamp we were overheating, found out that the duck weed from the swamp was clogging our intakes. Just had to clear the weeds out and we were fine afterwards.
Yes nice video giving some details about stops. I might do the canal, but worried about my 5.5' draft and 63' mast. Must do more reseach on current conditions
Last month going to Portsmouth Va I pass through coin jock the marina there has excellent prime rib and two young men performed live , Guitar Solo very good vocals . It’s a must stop north or south .
+Jake & Jill Adventures Did you make it to the Bahamas? We are headed to Bimini in 2 weeks and we will make 1300 miles in the Bahamas this year. Love to meet up!
Will do! We are thinking we will leave for the Bahamas on Jan 7 or around there. We first thought Bimini but now we are strongly considering Cat Cay. Where do you plan to enter? I think we may make it down as south as Long Island before turning East and North. What basis course track are you taking?
ya know after watching this vid..I just might go that way afterall! Awesome video! what kinda draft you got on that beautiful boat of yours? Hope to see yall soon on the ICW! Mary
Wonderful share! Might we ask a simple question. What maps, books, and/or charts do you use to know the lock opening times? And, is the depth impact of tides on the ICW the same as it is along the outer coast? I only ask because you have a fixed keel. Thank you!
Wow never heard Albermarle pronounced like that. Think marble without the b. I lived on the intracoastal in Virginia Beach for 25 years, and know the area like the back of my hand. Always wanted to take it down to florida and back.
Been on that trip a few times from Gwyns Island VA to Titusville FL that I call the trip from hell with a sailboat owner that could not read or write, had no clue how to use the radio, or the chart plotter and instead on running full sails and the engine wide open even though the bridge we where coming up only opened every hour. He ran the boat aground every day because he could not figure out that if there's a row of red and green markers to stay between them.
I can't believe you leave us hanging.....here's Jake, climbing the mast because _________????? It might be helpful to remember the five Ws when "reporting": WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHY. Who: Jake. What: Climbing. When: ? Where: the mast, on your boat at anchor at Oriental, NC. Why: ???
We had to go under a fixed 45' bridge to get our boat fixed and the instruments at the top put us above that height'. We took them down to give us a little more leeway and fit under the bridge (Which we did)
Love this! I have made the trip from New Bern to Norfolk many times...... by road. Really cool.

Just started watching you guys, working my way through the episodes.
Keep up the great work! Live the dream!

Mary, we have a 4 foot draft and went down through the dismal swamp mostly because we knew we could, the plus was less boats and much better views.
Doing a big refit in Oriental, NC until end of October then heading down to Carribean and Bahamas for winter!

We are in west palm now (12/22) and maybe here for a week. We would love to meet up, send us an email svbosco1@gmail.com

Lone star, send us an email, we would love to get together svbosco1@gmail
Done!
Didn't know you could tie up in Hobucken. Always passed through onto Oriental or River Dunes marina or northbound to Belhaven.
Nice. Do you have to pay to camp out at the dock in your boat?
Nice video. What's next?
Where can one on a jet ski enter from Norfolk to Coinjock
ya know after watching this vid..I just might go that way afterall! Awesome video! what kinda draft you got on that beautiful boat of yours? Hope to see yall soon on the ICW!

Go to offshoreblue.com to find information on bridge and lock restrictions for each state.
Well done sailors!

may i ask why you guys decided to go the swamp route instead of continueing down the ICW?
What is the deepest draft that can safely navigate this waterway?
I believe it has a controlled depth of 6' on center.

Couldn't hear the sounds of the Great Dismal Swamp for the guitar playing.
Is there a charge to each watercraft when going through the locks ?
hey guys, what is the name or mm# of that 0.40C/ft marina in roebuck?
do u have mast down at all? home port is Whitehall mi
No-see-ems will bite most people. Tissue paper with a few drops of kerosene or diesel pinned at bottom of screens willkeep out them.
Those yellow flies will tear you up in the swamp.
My wife wants the recipe for the shrimp dish please and thank you
How much fuel per day?
Way does not or even see her?
Yes the face closeups are way overboard. Skipped lots of the video because of this.
Sounds more like a gasket issue then water in your fuel
That ain't the way to Aintry. You must have made a wrong turn.
Why dont you show more of the trip instead of your mug shot?
Wait! There's a woman on your boat?
+blugrasssful We can hear you talking if you want to point that camera towards the scenery while your sailing. Good job all in all.

Work on your shaky camera and tooo many closeups. We'd really like to see your boat and the scenery more...
why don't u ever show your wife ?
Number your videos. Easier to follow you.
You have lovely face and all, but I would prefer looking out of the boat
