Great tutorial! Agree completely with you about Bossa dynamics, very important! What a Groove my brother! It was a big Pleasure to have you in this Collab video, big hug bro!
Best tutorial I've seen online on how to play bossa nova congas. What made it so good was that you explain in detail, how and when to mute and which hands to use and you break down each beat into segments. I could play these almost immediately thanks to your excellent tutorial! Many thanks man.
Samba and Bossa can have a essential gentleness. That is not always, but when it is present it provides an unique comfort and consolation. Thank you for this excellent demo.
Well i am in the same situation i just learned the mirandas bossa nova variation, but i really like this one too ! Thanks a lot man you doing a good job i really like your videos you take time to explain and you always posting new videos, variations, talking about great musicians ! You are the only one on youtube i guess . Thanks !!!
Man, you never fail to inspire, Eric. By the way. I am waiting on my new Manito Percussion heads, my first from these good folks, to arrive in the mail. Swen hooked me up and I let them know that it is you and your channel that turned me on to their skins. Can’t wait to try these boss’s nova variations on the chocolate, Middle Eastern skins I ordered. Whoa!! All the best, brother. Waterman
Oh I love bossa nova and now after watching this I'm wishing I had bought a third conga. Agh but budgets and the fact that I'm just starting to actually learn means I should take it easy ...
Thank you Eric for this for fully enjoyed this!!!! Nice calming chill pattern that I can use in bossa nova lounge, deep house lounge & smooth lounge music so you have helped me a great deal!!!! Ever heard chill house lounge & deep house lounge? You need to for it is truly relaxing stuff!!! Need something different to listen to there you go!
I was getting ready to start playing 3 congas and this is really a nice beginning piece to work on. 3 wks ago I fell at work and broke my wrist. NO drumming for me, at least another 2 wks. I practice Bossa rhythms with Elite Backing Rhythms here on You Tube. Lots of choices as far as how many BPM’s. Cool way to practice what I learn from your vids. Cool stuff, thanks 🙏
Love this!! One very tiny critique .is that the the pattern should start with one one on dominant hand and then got to two because the first note is a pick up note and when a band starts everyone should start on one.. Love these patterns though, Really great!! Thank you
Is there a reason to bring the non-dominant hand back to the conga to play the ghost note vs. just staying on the tumba which seems more intuitive and less choppy?
Thank you for the video. It seems like the 2 has the slap and the 3 is a rest with the "+" of 3 with the open tone. The 4 has the ghost note. Is that right? This is the pattern at the 10 minute mark.
Se que has hecho vídeos de como afinar las percuciones pero no encuentro afinarlas con un afinador cromático para Android. De que otra manera puedo afinar las congas? Gracias
You can play that as a thickening part on a Bossa, but it's not a Bossa part. If other percussion is not phrasing from characteristic Samba vocabulary, ,there's nothing about goto mama goto papa that makes it Bossa. The first part you're playing is essentially Calypso. The 3rd version makes more sense.
Bossa nova is and was never played with cajons because cajons are not used in Brazilian music. With all due respect, the rhythmic patterns played in the cajon, and even in the congas do not match or sound close to the samba rhythms played anywhere in Brazil.

Cajon Master man i appreciate you brother!

Nice. Thanks Eric. I often work hard at playing simple, in the groove, and as you say, chill.
Out-freakin'-standing Eric. You've got me bossa-groovin' with one 18-minute lesson. Love you bro. I'll be checking out MM's Bossa versions too.
You're killing me. I just learned all the Michael Miranda's various bossas. You know I have to learn this one as well. Okay fine. Thank you.
Michael is the greatest!!!! you’re welcome hahaha
Michael is cool, i met once during a performance like 20 years ago
John Smith, I follow Michael too, play in a Samba band as well. I am always looking for more variations and patterns to play.
