So my Instant Pot died after serving me well for 2 years and i found it very easy to fix for $1.50, than throwing the cooking away and buying a new one. Here is the link for the fuse I used.
I hope this video helps you fixing your Instant Pot
Thanks a bunch R.Manni. My InstantPot is 7 years old and died in the middle of making a beef stew. I was going to run out to Target and just buy a new, updated one until I saw the price (not on sale) and thought *oh heck no *. Spent 5 minutes on Google, another 2 minutes ordering a fuse, and 10 minutes taking apart my InstantPot and fixing it. Now it’s as good as new and the fuses came with three for $5 so I have two more if it happens again. At this rate, my 7 year old unit may outlive me, haha.
Thank you very much. I spoke to the Instant Pot Support guys but they were hopeless! I was told that nothing could be done. In other words, garbage it and buy a new one.
Thanks again and keep up the good work 👍🏼
Thanks for posting! I was able to fix ours. One thing I read though on an electronic engineering site is that the heat from a soldering iron can over temp a temp fuse. So I used bullet style wire connectors and crimped the connections instead of soldering.
Where did u buy the connector
I so appreciate you leaving a link to buy the fuses. Was able to fix my instapot myself. Thank you so much.
Thank you RManni. It is a very useful video. I have burned it because of I have used different pot inside IP. My wife scold me like anything. I was searching the video in google and i got this. I fixed it within two days after ordering soldering kit and fuse in Amazon. Awesome.. Thanks again.
Thank you for your video. I almost threw away my instant pot and bought another. But I watched your video and tried it and my instant pot works again!!! You saved me so much money and less waste for the earth :)
Thanks man! I just had the same problem, followed your steps and now am waiting for Amazon to deliver the parts. I really appreciate your video!
When I began my fix I did not understand it is a thermal fuse. The original is rated at 164 degrees celcius but the new one, as recommended by Amazon, is 185. I suspect the InstantPot manufacturer was playing it safe with the lower rating, but with so many failures, the increase is necessary. It is important to mention that the insulated (sleeve covered) fuse needs to contact the outer pot shell for safety. An air space between the repaired fuse and the pot may not allow a reaction in time for a dangerous overheating. I did not take note of where in relation to the fuse clamp bracket the fuse is during disassembly, but have to assume it is clamped in the bracket (not just clamping the leads). That way heat transfer from the pot through the bracket and then into the fuse results in maximum fire prevention.
thanks for the tips. I used my multimeter to check the continuity across the fuse to determine that it was blown. An alternative for those who have that tool and don't want to plug in their instantpot to test if that's the issue.
Your method is indeed better.
Thank you so much!!! I spent less than a dollar to buy the replacement fuse. You saved me a lot of money.
Thank you . Mine I only used maybe 3 times and turned off ..THANK YOU
Thanks for sharing. I watched a few video clips but this is the simplest and easiest for me to follow. Have a great day
Thank you so much for sharing. Mine died in the middle of making chicken stock. Ordered the fuses. Husband fixed with crimps as some viewers suggested. It worked! Yay! My unit is an Ultra that was purchased in 2018. ❤
Thank you for doing this video! I was able to fix my instant pot after it just stopped while coming to pressure while trying to make stock. I filled to the fill line not above, so lesson learned! Too much in there blew the fuse I am assuming! Anyway, so happy I was able to fix for less than 5 dollars!
Thank you. I fixed my Instant Pot.
Have to let you know I am 62 years old and from Bombay , India settled in Salt Lake City from the last 20 years.
I am glad it worked for you.
Thank you so much. I was able to fix my Instant Pot with the help of this video, and it saved me at least $100 😃
Thanks for this. I had just bought a new one and was about to toss the old one out and decided to tinker with it. It was just the fuse, saved me the cost of a new instant pot.
Thanks so much! Just fixed mine after a year of it sitting in the closet bc I bought a new one.
Very nice of you. Thank God
I suspected something like this and your video confirmed it. Even though your video is 3 years old, let me add few lines on how to test without having live wire connection for those who may see this video. You can use an AVO (ampere, voltage, Ohm) meter, less than $10, to test most simple connections. In this case, we suspect the thermal fuse. It is technically a short (zero resistance between the two fuse terminals) when working properly and melts when temp exceeds the limit and becomes open (infinite resistance). Set the AVO meter in the resistance measuring mode and test for R value between the two terminals of the fuse. I also noticed the fuse you recommended is only 10 A and at 100V, we are talking about a max of 1100 W. I have an eight Q Instant Pot rated at 1500 W. Hence I may need a fuse rated for say 15 A. Well, may be the fuse is rated 10 A at 250V. Also, I notice this fuse is rated for 142c (the one you show 132) which is 290F. I am not sure if this is the max temp range of Instant Pot (pressured boiling water @ 265 F but applied heat must be higher). I will open and check the exact fuse used. The proper temp cutoff is specific with respect to each device. A much higher temp fuse might overheat the whole circuitry. If you are going to use a random fuse, you might as well replace the fuse by a wire (which I did few years for a small, cheap spice grinder telling myself if the motor stops working completely due to thermal overload, I might as well throw it and not worry).
Wow, I had a separate part that needed replacing but I didn't even think to look for a fuse there. I gotta see if that part needs replacing now too, thank you.
You can also check continuity between the input power and the post after the thermal fuse. That way you don't need to plug it in to diagnose it
How would I bypass all the electronic function and just power on and off?
@@gushardy4421 what do you mean by “all the electronic function”? Power what on and off?
Thank you! I was able to replace the fuse with your help.
Thank you so much..I was not using my instant pot for a while now because of the same issue but when I saw you video I tried the steps and it worked..Thanks again 🙏🏼
Quick question, Now i get a error flashing “pot”. The main pot is inside it but still I have this error blinking. Any inputs?
If you open the back cover, you will find 2 nuts holding the heating element (base) together. Check its there and its tight.
@@rmanni they are tight.. still no luck..☹️
Thanks a bunch! It took me a couple of months before I actually dove in to do the replacement--I had the fuses for several weeks--but it took me only a few minutes once I finally decided to do the thing. I'll be more careful about monitoring the liquid levels in the future; I received three fuses, but I hope I won't have to use all three to learn my lesson!
Minnie Mayge I poured liquid in without pot in. Esh! Only been one day and I miss my instant pot already. I guess it is the fuse.
Thank you! I had this exact problem. Buying fuses now!
One more to thank you for the post and for the same good reason. Best wishes to you
Thank you so much for this video!! I’m going to be able to save our instapot!!!
If you have a multimeter, you can use the Continuity setting for checking whether the fuse is blown, without connecting the instant pot to a wall outlet. It's much safer!
Better way, I agree
Thank you so much for posting this! I was able to do it alone, without my dad!!! :)
SAME
FYI, same thermal fuse for the 8 qt model. Price is up to $2, but still much better than replacing the unit for sure!
Thanks for this even though this is a crock pot I have a AirFryer powerxl that went out i search all of RUclips and the most common thing is the switch so I ordered and replaced the switch but it still didn’t work there’s current going through it when I tested it but it still won’t turn on then I came across your channel and I’m assuming it’s the thermal fuse even the website said it could be that also but you have earned a subscriber my friend keep it up.
Thank you RManni for the great tip .so happy that my istantpot working with this method 💃
Thanks a lot for these instructions. You are helping us save some money; and I hope you reach the views and likes needed so you can start making some money as well. You deserve it. Again, thanks.
Thanks a ton! Your video and link saved me a bundle. I didn’t have soldering iron so I used a mini lighter torch. Lol. Everything works!
Wow, mini lighter touch to solder 😄
mine died this evening and I had two use my back up..
have the fuses on the way to repair it following this method..
Amazing and generous post sir! Thank you
worked well for me, thank you so much for the video. just straight soldered it without any issue. The thermal wrap was too hard to put back on with my model, we'll see how long it holds with just thick electrical tape
O BOY> NOOOO That will melt with heat from pot then you'll have a short to ground- case
You dont need soldering , non insulated butt connector is more than enough
My boi RManni! Coming through bigtime with the fix!
Good video, but due to the heat involved I recommend NOT using solder for this application. Better to use a non-insulated crimp connector instead.
Is there a link for the crimp connector that I can buy on Amazon ?
By any chances you know if the fuse has to have contact with the heating element of the pot?
@@TravisBickleCab it doesn't touch the element directly, but the base which gets heated conducts onto the fuse via a clip.
Thank you - going to try to return to kohl's first .
This fixed my Instant Pot, thank you!!
Worked perfectly.
The fuses I ordered came with crimp connectors or you could use a heat sink to block heat from soldering from getting to the fuse. An alligator clip will work
my power cooker thermal fuse had blown and i just twisted the ends together for a temporary fix. i ordered a 10 pack of 10amp 185 C from aliexpress for $1.40. when i went to replace the old one, turns out it was a 135C. i ordered a 10 pack of 145 C for $1.30, and swapped it out later. it took a month to get my order each time. i used crimps instead of solder.
This worked for my unit as well, one thing I noticed is the first fuse was no good and I was second guessing myself. If you have a multimeter or voltmeter test the fuse before you solder it in.
that's a good idea. sometime's excessive heat from soldering iron may blow out the fuse as well.
so better to check it with multi meter before and after soldering it.
Thanks :) my instant pot works again.
Thank you! My pot works again!
Thank you for your demo! I just fixed mine!
It's important to make absolutely clear that the fuse is a THERMAL fuse. IT HAS 2 FUNCTIONS...
1. It will blow, and need replacement, if it sees an electrical short anywhere in the circuitry, or in this case from using the wrong inner pot.
2. It's main function is to TEMPORARILY shut off all electricity within the control panel of your Instant Pot when it gets too hot. This happens when your IP is either overloaded or stressed in some way which causes a higher temperature in the circuitry than the thermal fuse is rated for. It is designed to let the circuitry cool down so as to not start a fire.
Recently, I accidentally overloaded my 3qt IP with meat. This triggered its thermal fuse about 10 minutes into the 12 minute cooking time. It finally reset after 10-15 minutes, and all was good. This really messes with your planning muscle as I wasn't sure how much more cooking time it needed. I ended up finishing the meal in my oven. UGH!
It's important to stay within the liquid amounts and load lines on the inner pot to avoid thermally overloading the electronics. Again, the thermal fuse is designed to TEMPORARILY shut down your Instant Pot. If it does this, unplug it from the wall and carefully open the steam vent to depressurize the pot. Then remove the lid and inner pot so the main body can cool. Your Instant Pot should become usable again in 10-20 minutes when the thermal fuse resets itself.
TIP; If you're instant Pot completely shuts down towards the end of the cooking time due to tripping the fuse, just leave it to cook the rest of the way, but add a few minutes as the pot stays hot naturally for several minutes after the electricity quits, and will continue to cook most foods during this time.
Dbf Crell, I think his situation may be different. Like his, I used a different pot in mine and it blew the fuse. A week later and it’s definitely cool but hasn’t reset - Pot is receiving power but lcd is black and non-functional. 🥺
My IP has been cool for at least a couple of months, so I've got fuses, and I'm going in (I didn't use a different pot, but perhaps mine overheated because the beans lost too much water during cooking). I really don't want to use my soldering iron, though; I have tried to use it maybe once in my life, and this may not be the time to learn. Oh, well, if I destroy the IP, I can buy a Foodi, right?
EDIT: OK, I'm done, and that Foodi will have to wait, because the IP is definitely NOT destroyed!
OK Google, find me an Instant Pot pho recipe.
@@miniaturemage hi and thanks for your witness! Can you please share the right description of the fuse you bought (even better if you have a link to where you bought it?) And thank you!

Thank you for your insight. In my case, I’m thinking my InstantPot thermal fuse blew simply because it was 7 years old. I use only the InstantPot inner pans, and hardly can say I use it every day (maybe monthly once or twice). I’ve never overloaded it with food nor have I burnt anything in it. I allowed the unit to cool down for days and it was still DOA. So the fuse did not temporarily shut the until down for me.
With that said, mine simply shut off in the middle of browning meat and veggies (sauté function) prior to using the pressure cook function. My guess is it was just its “time” as nothing lasts forever. Hopefully this fuse replacement will fix the issue (it did) and I can get a few more miles out of this unit.
Thank you for this video!♥
mine just died last night. goint to try this! thanks. its 2 months past warranty date :(
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support.
I cut off the older fuse's clamps and then tried to solder the Instant Pot's red wire insides (which has bunch of tiny metal thread of wires) with the new fuse.
Not even sure if all the small metal threads (inside the red wire) were all connected to the fuse. It was impossible to solder them all properly. So, a part of those small threads were soldered to the new fuse. So, I taped it all together tightly with an insulation tape. The Instant Pot turns on, however and IS WORKING.
Would this cause any issues in the future?
That was great. Thanks for the information!
Exactly what was wrong also with mine. Thank You 💪 👍
Thank you for diy on pressure cooker down, yet bypassing the thermal fuse did not help. Bypassing the other fuse did not work. What else do I look for?
Thanks for the video. Does the direction of the fuse's connection matter?
Don't think so, I just put it in the same way as the old one
Merci!
Thanks for the support.
Thank you very much for a very informative video
thank you ..it helped me a lot...
*I love the instant pot so much! I have made quinoa, chicken, chili, asparagus **MyBest.Kitchen** and yogurt in it so far. The only thing that didn't work great was the asparagus. I cooked it for 1 minute and it was still overdone. It is a timesaver and uses much less energy than my gas stove.*
Thanks a lot Sir
Good video..
My pot says 152c @ 15amp, don't really wanna wait on the ordering, however I have a 172c 10 amp, would that still work out or could their be an issue?
Use a NON insulated butt connector that you crimp to make connections rather than soldering a joint that could get to over 120 degrees.
Would you be so kind as to put a link for the butt connectors? I went on Amazon to search for one but there are so many things that I don't know which one to pick. I'm not an electrician :)
Great video, thanks!!!
How can we disable the temperature sensor to avoid the burn error? I always watch the pot, so there is no fire
Thanks for the video. My IP is failing water test. It comes to pressure, 2 min set up on, and then burn. I tried it few times and the burn warning would beep twice and then it changes to ON instead of OFF. If anyone has any ideas it would be extremely helpful.
Hello. How would I bypass all the electronic function and just power on and off?
What would be a nice alternate for the fuse sleeve if we have misplaced the original one? Thanks in advance.
google "fiberglass thermal sleeve" or "Fiberglass Heat Shield Sleeve" in amazon, I see 10 piece for around $7.00, but i haven't personally used it.
THANKS SIR RManni !
What if I connect the cable without the fuse, will it be a big problem?
It should work, but not recommended as you are bypassing the safety switch for overheat protection
My Instapot is making continuous click sounds. Lid/ No lid/ factory reset not helping. I wish to troubleshoot before decommissioning this dear friend. In that process hopped over your video.
Why would the direction of the fuse matter in AC? Don't solder just twist for thermal fuse.
Yeah, I later realized direction does not matter. You can twist it than soldering as well.
its very useful .. thank you so much .. just wanna know whats the name of ur electricity checker that u used ?

Any idea on an instantpot with some buttons not functioning like the pressure, delay time buttons? Appreciate help
holding down the Cancelbutton BEFORE switching the main power on, then releasing the button, the keypad reset itself.
Or Google reset instant pot
The video cut out while you removed the power plug, and I can't figure out how to pull it out. It is very tightly plugged in. How did you do it?
my model comes with detachable power cord, and it pulls out pretty easily. please make sure that your model comes with detachable cord.
If not, you can just leave it hanging on the side.
How has the sauter connection held up? we were concerned that would be inadequate to deal with the heat in that area?
It's working great, no problems since the fix
I cut the fuse but forgot the direction of the fuse arms. You mentioned something about note the direction in which the fuse is installed. Is there an easy way to remember how to reinnstall the fuse the right way?
I just installed the same way the original was, but they are not directional. I found that after posting the video.
Hii...there....please help... my pot is still working the only problem is i cant see all the numbers in there.. i mean the cooking time ..so its difficult for me to cook using this pot without knowing how many minutes or hours to cook .. thank you 🦶🙏🙏
I don't think there is a easy fix for your display. Your best bet will be buying an Insignia (on sale) for cheap, and use the stainless steel pot from InstantPot. Good luck.
@@rmanni thank you for your reply :)
Dude, I started cooking and the pressure button never went up, but I suddenly hit the count without pressure within seconds. What to do in that case?
You have any video to resolve that problem?
What happened if the solder gets hot and start melting the parts? It is not supposed to be soldered.
Crimping tool
There's no polarity on thermal fuses.
You are correct..
Hi the rice button on my instant pot stopped working. Can you help?
If other buttons work, then its probably a loose contact under the button. Not sure if there are aftermarket control panel available. Can you experiment with other buttons (Steam maybe) to see if it works for Rice?

fuses don't have a direction. ☺
I was not sure about Thermal fuses. Yes, regular fuses don't have direction.
Capacitors do on the other hand
Excuse me sir, is it okay to replace the initial fuse with a different one. My toaster is broken with tf 227°c. Can i replace it with anything below or above that, like tf220°c or tf250°c?
If you can't find the exact match, i will go with the lower rating ( 220'c in your case) to be on the safer side.

Can you try the following
1) press saute mode
2) Press adjust button to pick the temperature setting, let's say "Normal"
3) it should turn on in a minute or so, and after sometime it will display HOT
4) you should feel IP getting hot
