Ensure you dispose of any material that has been in contact with oil safely and in accordance with the oil manufacturer's guidelines.
Well the stock was in pretty bad shape. No major damage but cosmetically a bit lacking. Hopefully it will look a bit better by the end of this episode.

Hello Jean, thank you much appreciated 👍🏻. Glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with finding a project, the most important part of it is to enjoy the process and make it your own. I've stopped trying to please everybody, so I'm concentrating on one off builds done my way.

Hi Nick, You chose the right wood stain. Colron is the only one that leaves no residue,(ex cabinet maker). We used to spray finish with 20% gloss with added matching stain. Brilliant where filler has been used. Also Liberon semi hard wax sticks are better than filler for matching. Hope this helps. Just bought an HW 77.

Hello, thank you for your comment and thank you for the tip, much appreciated.
I've tried other stains and dyes, only Coloron seems to give good results.
Good choice with the HW77, they are great guns.

    That stain looks great Nick!
I wish new Weihrauchs offered a bit more variety in their stock materials and stains actually, so this is nice to see.
And you’re right, it will be distinctive in your collection also.
Looking forward to seeing more of this series 😊

      Thank you, much appreciated 👍🏻.
Yes it would be good if Weihrauch offered different finishes on the beech stocks.
Glad you are enjoying the series. The next video doesn't end well 😭 but it should be resolved soon 🤞.

      Hello Sir,
I fully agree with your opinion on some Weirhrauch gunstocks, though they've recently improved.
I purchased a Weihrauch HW80K a few years ago, an iconic 1980's break barrel air rifle that's arguably never been bettered, I thought the stock it came with was awful.
With that in mind, I decided I would make my own. I have only hand tools and a kitchen and a will to make the best I can make.
I decided I wanted to make Mr. Weihrauch proud, and show my passion for his air rifles. I wanted my gunstock to be exciting, exhilarating, dynamic, and a head turner. For this to be so, my design incorporated predators. A Hawks claw, a jumping Puma, a Cobra snake/Sabre Toothed Tiger, and an American Fish Eagle. It was laminated in Walnut and Ash. All the laminates were hand sawn. Infact, the only electrical tool I used was a router for the action groove.
With Christmas in-between, the whole build took around three months. I have a photographed pictorial account of all the different stages of the build.
I put so much into building the gunstock, I said never again! However, I do plan to build another. It's my most treasured possession, as I was never allowed around tools when I was growing up. I also wanted to own a Weihrauch HW80K from being twelve years old. So now I have what I always wanted and thank Weihrauch for that, as it was their gunstock that drove my passion in the first place. Thank you.

@ianwoods1384 wow, that stock sounds amazing, great job 👍🏻.
Always great to hear from people with real talent (unlike me, the extent of my skills is using a sander and wood dye).
The HW80 is a fantastic rifle, always hampered by the UK's power limit. I was going to buy one years ago but I bought a HW95K instead - it was more compact and better suited the use I had for it. I do hanker after a HW80 but the airgun budget is empty at the moment.
I refinished the stock on the HW95K again later in the series as it didn't quite work out how I wanted it to, I'm now satisfied with it.
Good luck with the next stock, maybe film the process and post it on RUclips? There will be folk that want to see it.
      All the best, Nick

The spring and breech seal I purchased both caused me problems.
I'm editing the video, currently there is several hours of footage 🙄. Got to condense it down into something more watchable.

    Nice little series
I've just bought several Weihrauchs, I'm currently trying to tune and clean up a HW35.
I like the idea of adding stippling to the grip.
The colour of the stain is a nice change from the normal Weihrauch colour.

Hi Nick - great improvement and not too shabby at all. If you want to stipple the checkered area, a Dremmel with the right sized bur works brilliantly - I had a very ropey 98 which had that treatment and it looks brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Nice job Nick, I did stippling on the hand grip on my hw77, looked better than the original checkering. Iv also had good results with the tru oil kits for finishing stocks.
Lightly dabbing a bit of the dark stain over the filler, almost useing it like paint should hide it.
Good video all the best Jim.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Год назад +1

Thanks Jim, much appreciated. I'm increasingly leaning towards stippling the grip, maybe Mrs V will help (she loves burning things 😂).
I'm going to keep trying with the filler, it is gradually darkening but yes more dye is required.
      Many thanks 👍🏻

Hi Nick - not to shabby at all. If your thinking of stippling the Checkered area....a dremmel can work very well indeed, although slow it can give an excellent result with the right sized bur....
      Keep up the great work.

My wife's manager had a fire in his basement, turned out it was a rag soaked in linseed oil. I was taught about it in Tech, I tested it once and the rags did start to burn after a few days.

Hello Steve, hope all is well.
The good weather has curtailed most work on airguns, my weekends seem to be filled with either building sheds or clay pigeon shooting at the moment.
It will get done eventually, it will likely then be sold along with a few other guns to fund the channel.

Ive paired my 99s with a hawke fast mount due to a tight budget will that be ok mate ?

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Год назад +1

Hello Dan, thank you for your comment much appreciated 👍🏻. The Fastmount will be fine, they are good scopes. The mounts are ok, usually a bit too tall and they have the sticky pads of doom but at least they come with a recoil pin.
I will be fitting a Fastmount to my HW95 project gun once it is finished.

Ha ha. The sign of a typical RUclipsr, saying you don't care but secretly you do and trying to convince yourself that you like it too.
I ended up refinishing the stock again.
