as an ion player, i can testify that the majority of tone's damage comes from her rockets. tank her 40mm and catch the rockets with your vortex--most tone players shoot them on reflex anyways, so you'll almost always catch the first salvo. even if you can't hit her with the return rockets, you're cutting her output in half, and even your peashooter splitter rifle can be enough to whittle her down. ion's primary weapon is her vortex shield, never forget it.

Idk why people say legion counters tone but maybe I’m missing something, like tone has a better shield and can still hit legion in the feet to get tracking while his shield is up
I think the worst/most annoying aspect of Tone to me is her shield. Tracking rockets? I know my maps and how to use cover. 40mm? Shields are accessible and once again cover is easy to come by. Sonar pulse? Disengage as best you can. But that shield, my word that shield. As a Legion main, seeing a tone shield down the middle of a choke point is like a giant middle finger (especially with the reinforced kit). Gotta have a Ronin buddy with you to take it down. HOWEVER. I have just recently started properly playing Tone myself after a long break from the game, and now that I've come back with a fresh mindset? I totally get the appeal. Tone's shield allows them to both block damage and deal damage at the same time from long range, making them nearly invincible and more powerful by default. Generally titan defensive abilities are supposed to absorb a majority of damage while leaving them unable to deal damage, with a few exceptions being Scorch's flame shield, though this can only deal damage at close range, and Legion's gun shield, which has a low health pool and splash damage still hurts the titan. Tone, on the other hand, becomes invincible while able to dish out inconceivable amounts of damage. There isn't even an animation that stops them from shooting for a moment while they activate the wall. This is why generally only Ronins are decent at taking out Tones, because the Ronin is able to close the distance, take out the wall, and force the Tone into a CQB fight where the Ronin has a major advantage. If I could choose one defensive ability to rework or remove, it would be the particle wall. Maybe keeping it's large size but making it so you have to actively use it, disabling your gun and abilities, but protecting you and allies from incoming damage, turning it more into something the leader of a push would use, instead of a long-range sniper tool.
Tone main here, I don’t fight pilots because I can’t track but I love titan on titan as tone because I can hit hard but I can be damaged badly and if the pilot escapes I leave them. More fun if the enemy pilot lives to get titanfall again
I’m a G35 tone main. I get a lot of hate from people who don’t know how to counter but if you get to know all the tricks tone is super fun. You can use the splash to get locks on other tones that are behind their particle wall. You can angle your missiles behind and above you to get the most height out of them and get them over shields. If someone rushes your wall you can “box” them or repeatedly punch them out. There’s a bunch of other tricks that you can learn. I just try to have fun and ignore the haters.
Tone was my first ever main, and then I stopped for a while after I found out how hated she was. I’m considering returning to Tone honestly, I’ve made memories with her
Just picked up the game again. Used Tone because I liked it in the campaign. Did well in PvP despite the fact that I am bad and I didn't know what I was doing. That says a lot, doing good without understanding
I gravitate toward Tone because she felt easy to use to me. I was a menace on the battlefield whenever I called her in. Looking back, I realize an excellent Tone player can make or break a match. Honestly, I was sometimes disgusting with how skewed the Attrition scores were. (I only play on Attrition) Sometimes they only had half a bar.
People rag on Ronin mains for being annoying but at least acknowledge that playing ronin effectively takes SKILL to beat your ass into the ground. Tone doesn’t get this luxury on part of being the most brain dead Titan.
Northstar main here: If tone deploys her shield just shoot a cluster missile, the secondary explosions will bounce over the shield and hit tone. If you’re able to get a cluster missile next to her when she’s behind her shield she’ll back up so you could take a shot at her.
Ronin's arc wave destroys Tone's shield with one shot. plus phase dash does make him a good counter but that doesn't make it less annoying, it mostly reminds me that Tone is forcing me to play her game
@@shadesinsertlastname1631 On the contrary. Heavy damage output is the best way to scare off a Ronin that's closing. Drop a smoke and turn on the drum, either they'll nuke or phase out.
The issue with Tone is that they're simple, effective, and don't really have any drawbacks. Tone has the most straightforward and braindead kit of any titan and all of that kit is pretty damn strong. They also don't require you to ever really think because any mistakes you could make are easily covered by their kit: Out of position? Particle wall. Your shot was off? well you still have splash damage. Even if your opponent runs away before you can get 3 locks you can secure the last one with sonar pulse, if you're getting spammed with AT weapons by annoying pilots peaking out of buildings sonar pulse combined with your splash damage can deal with them too. There just isn't really anything you can't handle as tone with moderate effort.
I honestly never had much issues against tones because as a pilot I generally move fast and unpredictably and play to avoid titan LOS, and as a titan, I mostly use ronin so I stay nimble and also out of sight. Oh and, sword block.
A few numerical inconsistencies: - Tracker rockets fire 6 rockets, 8 if rocket barrage is used. - Salvo core fires 60 rockets at 140 damage each. You are correct in saying that ronin is a natural answer to tone. Legion however lacks the means to reliably break particle wall in a short period of time and is vulnerable to tracker rockets due to his lack of a held defensive. If the engagement starts anywhere where legion isn't close enough to dash through tone's wall without being melee boxed out, tone is typically favored.
Im a dirty tone main, here are some tips that could help you in dealimg with a tone(some could help with other titans).Give them multiple things to worry about or try and distract them as another player flanks them and rushes them down (perferably a ronin or scorch) to take them by surprise and throw everything you got. Is your a pilot take pot shots at them and move constantly to try and divert the attention of the tone away from friendly titans. If its a 1v1 dont rush through the shield, its too predictable and anytime someone did that to me they got punched and knocked back on the other side of the wall. Ion can bait out rockets to grab and shoot back. If a ronin disables the shield push with them and try and deal as much damage as possible while the Tone is occupied with the ronin, if your a pilot wait for the Tone to already have used their electric smoke before trying to steal a battery. If a tone is using their core and your a pilot try and get them to look away or break their line of sight with whoever they're targeting by damaging them(you might die doing this) if they dont look away you can still deal as much damage as possible to them.
Tone is really not even that strong, completely neutralised by Ion, can’t do anything against Ronin or Scorch in close range, can be kept at range by Northstar, the only Titan that Tone is really strong against is Legion, even Monarch can screw over Tone by using her laser shot to slow down Tone’s aim. People usually hate Tone because of how good she is against Pilots specifically, the 40mm is a one-shot menace, but that’s pretty much her only strong point, everything else you have to be really strategic. She’s excellent for Titan damage, horrible for Titan kills…
I think I pissed off 2 players today with Tone on Angel City or something as I killed an ejecting monarch pilot 1 second after they began accelerating in the air and shortly annihilated a Legion with its pilot and the MVP player at the same time with Salvo Core. I feel sorry for those players. Tone is my 3rd most used titan iirc
as a dirty tone main i genuinely don't think she's as op or brainless as people make her out to be. she has a lot of interesting strategy and matchups, the only one of which i consider wildly in her favor being monarch and monarch mains need to be brought down a couple pegs anyway. the only part of her kit that i think needs a nerf is splash damage applying trackers which doesn't make much sense, although any tone v tone fight relies on that, otherwise they would all be staring contests until the walls come down, so no idea how you would fix that if that was removed
I'm a scorch main and I hate tone with a passion. It's a nightmare to try and place your traps when the tone hides behind their shield and shreds you with rockets
honestly I think the main reason is that her damage is on-par with legion but its bursty so one bad play can kneecap your entire fight Also the shield is so simple that its hard to get creative with it, and with the space needed for the rockets you actually are most advantageous being out in the open which usually feels like a brain-dead strategy as most shooters (and other titans) have ingrained in us but also yeah the 40mm cannon in a game where pilots are instagib is not something you can really balance to make fair, most have low damage and a much higher fire rate or a very limited fire rate with instakill. instakill directs and partial damage indirects is really the only logical way to do it but it isnt satisfying similar to how an SMG in Team Fortress 2 isnt satisfying Tone on paper is a very interesting concept. The fight against her is mainly a dance of tempo where you try to predict and neutralize her rocket salvo while she tries to throw you off, the problem is that every other titan is a dance of range, ion pokes from afar in small sightlines, legion sets up at long range to try and have a no-mans-land between you and him, northstar uses somewhat of a hybrid of the previous two with an emphasis on repositioning, ronin gets up into your face hyperaggressively & begs to not be stuck in mid-range, scorch tries to corner you and work into close range, and monarch will poke from long and mid range (honestly the real hit & run titan if you ask me). Point being is that range & map space is extremely important for the rest of the titans, yet tone arguably works in all of them and is fought using a different method. Not that I dont like it at all, I'm pretty neutral when it comes to tone although I am aware I am a ronin main so not only do we counter her shield but also sword block does not have a cooldown so we just have to be aware rather than judge the worth of activating our defense before doing so. Great video tho, I love TF2 discussions
So, when I ride Aion, when I meet Tone, only the cannon is deliberately hit, and only the tracking rocket is bounced with the vortex shield to raise the opponent's blood pressure.
I used to hate tone, but ever since I became a papa scorch main they’ve been easy thanks to the flammable barrels. Throw one next to the shield, and as long as you’re accurate with your following firewall or thermite launcher then they’ll clear the area pretty quick.
Honestly I've always thought tone stopped being overpowered when they nerfed her by adding the "TITAN LOCKED ON" alert. It allows counter-play as opposed to before the nerf when you could never be sure (you don't know what upgrades they have or if sonar hit)
Tbh, as a North star main, the tracking rockets are the worst cause your only method of dealing with them is running away. Same somewhat goes for shield but you can cluster rocket to the left or right of it and push them out of it, or just flank em cause for some reason, they refuse to leave the shield after they place it...
I have put a lot of time into all the titans for a long while. I've played each one fairly well, other times I've been outplayed by far more experienced players. I typically main legion or ion mostly, but I play tone and ronin often times too. And from my experience, I don't really feel compelled to hating tone. Personally, it's because each titan has some kind of advantage and disadvantage, and allows each titan to counter each other in different ways. The tone is only as good against titans like Monarch, Legion, Scorch, Northstar and perhaps other tones if it's from a far distance. And the partial wall really helps tone shoot and track carefree for herself and her allies. But, say you have a ronin or a scorch that close the gap, or a monarch that has most upgrades built towards gaining a battery and recharging it's shields, then as a tone, you are most definitely going to struggle, since close combat is not her expertise. And ronin players certainly will close the gap, especially considering they are fast, close range, and have phase shift which gets rid of missile lock. Tone is a good titan. Personally, she's not too OP, and she's not underwhelming. I remember getting a seriously huge pilot kill streak with her one time, and it was a mess. But no bigger than any kill streak I've gotten with legion or ion.
Tone's biggest weakness is close range combat and being outnumbered because of her fire rate. Two titans engaging at different distances, or even a titan and a pilot can shred her
Tone has a low floor and an above sverage ceiling for players who understand and know the maps and how best to utilize and punish players for bumrushing/making mistakes. But shes also pretty easy to overcome with a decent squad or even just a couple of players who know what their doing. Especially if you catch her out in the open.
I play all titans. Tone was one of my fav. I feel like tone abilities are just simple. However, people just dont know how to counter her, which is why they just choose to complain. From my experience, not every tone player is just gonna downright be good but i do see where most people are coming from. I do enjoy tone, despite what anyone has to say.
Tone is some how automatically intuitive for me when it comes to shooting pilots out of the air. Normally i suck at leading shots but with tone i can nail pilots out of the sly eith ease
My favorite part, is when ya learn to use the ultimate as a feint during the initial flight path to perform all sorts of mind-#@@#ery especially against mechs who think they're going to lock ya up with a shield. OR when ya learn to use the close-range frontal assault of the ult to "shotgun" multiple half-dead mechs. Anyone getting back on, because of the steam sale?
I can honestly say that I understand the hate on tone when it comes to Pilot vs Titan gameplay. Tone erases pilots with ease and makes dealing with her a pain in the ass when they're even just decently good at aiming. Best advice i can give is USE YOUR AT WEAPONS. - Charge rifle is great at any distance, but try to do it from high ground to avoid splash-damage hits. - Thunderbolt pro tip, the projectile is slightly affected by your momentum, so whether your flying through the air or corner peeking inside a building, BE MOVING BACKWARDS when you fire for maximum damage duration - MGL is the best from the rooftops as it allows you to bully behind the cover of the ledge. - Archer is great for playing mind games with tone; many times a tone will instantly drop it's particle wall if you so much as start locking onto them. Use this against them to make them waste their defensive ability, then wait to reveal your exact location till they've moved or the wall goes down. - Rodeoing a tone is risky as you run the chance of getting killed by e-smoke or immediately after pulling the battery, which can also result in them getting a battery + shield + core build. If you're going to rodeo a tone, it's best done in coordination with other pilots or titans, preferably the latter. Here are a few nice tips about fighting a tone in titans. Legion: Your Gun-Shield can tank the entire salvo core. Yes. Seriously. (And then-some if you run Bulwark) Scorch: Honestly, this is a git-gud moment where you really just gotta be quick on your reflexes using the thermal shield EXCLUSIVELY to block the tracking rockets while closing the distance. Ronin: Timing is everything, using that sword-block and your phase dash to avoid rockets is key. You can also use your dashes to avoid them which you should have plenty of as a ronin. Northstar: Running towards the rockets at an angle can cause them to overshoot you. Other than that, keep your distance and rely on cover to avoid rockets. Ion: Same as Scorch, use your vortex shield in conjunction with careful observation and counting tracker hits to catch Tone's rockets and throw them back. Monarch: (get stuffed)
Honestly? I love Tone, and yeah I'm a filthy Tone main but I just love her kit. In contrast to a lot of the other Titans it jsut synergises so well with itself, which is what makes her hard to deal with in some cases, but beyond that I just like her because she is literally the equivalent of my OG Titanfall 1 loadout of the Atlas w/ the 40mm Cannon.
I just started playing titanfall 2 and using tone. I get frustrated because I deal great damage on titans only to have other players steal kills constantly
I feel like in a lot of games there is that character or play style that is incredibly annoying to fight against, and very annoying or boring to play as, and I feel tone is that for me in this game
Only piece of tone’s kit I like is the 40mm cannon. In TF1 I maimed the 40mm with burst fire on atlas titan and the Sid titan os voice (hands down the best os voice in the game) I just don’t like the rest of her kit as it’s not really my playstyle
i dont know if this is normal, but i can eat a tone core with legion shield... turbo charged legion, light weigh Alloy... no reinforced gun shield, very fun.
I play scorch mainly tone doesn’t bother me much She’s too easy to use which makes her seem over powered. I d love to see a video about why people hate legion. I don’t like legion except on frontier defense
I love tone but agree with the problems people have with her, I think what would a good change would be changing he weapon from 40 mm grenades, to just normal rounds.
Why I love Tone: Semi-auto rifle with great accuracy and fire rate! A nice little sonar for spotting enemies and giving a small bit of utility to my team Missiles, very reliable source of damage! Shield for an "oh shit" button/ great way to start a fight! I never use missle salvo. Buuuuuut knowing that they will come down has changed that.
As somebody who only started playing after the game dropped to 3€. I can safely say that tone and maybe scorch are the only titans where i can safely beat a g20+ players titan.

I used to be a tone main once, then I converted to the way of anti-tonism. also nice video, keep doing wut u do
Im glad to see successfully recovered people, we see weak children fall into the tone ways too often.
You have just given me useful info regarding my usage of salvo cores :)
I believe at this point when people say that they hate Tone it’s either as a joke or they find her annoying sometimes like myself but she’s not OP
correct, shes not op rather annoying, this video is putting those feelings into context haha
Nice video! It would be cool to see more of these “mock guides” to other titans stereotypes! What time do you normally stream on those days?
Monday and friday 7 or 8pm Easter time, im going to sit down and write some more for sure!
Love this video bro. New sub
Thank you pilot, working on more
@@ttgolll Push em shits out im tryna watch more of ya stuff!!!
Northstar main here:
If tone deploys her shield just shoot a cluster missile, the secondary explosions will bounce over the shield and hit tone. If you’re able to get a cluster missile next to her when she’s behind her shield she’ll back up so you could take a shot at her.
Ronin's arc wave destroys Tone's shield with one shot. plus phase dash does make him a good counter but that doesn't make it less annoying, it mostly reminds me that Tone is forcing me to play her game
idk what you mean ronin hard destroys tone theres like nothing tone can do
@@shadesinsertlastname1631 On the contrary.
The best way to describe tone is like driving a pickup truck after driving 10 years with a kia soul.
I honestly never had much issues against tones because as a pilot I generally move fast and unpredictably and play to avoid titan LOS, and as a titan, I mostly use ronin so I stay nimble and also out of sight. Oh and, sword block.
A few numerical inconsistencies:
- Tracker rockets fire 6 rockets, 8 if rocket barrage is used.
For somone with very few subs its really good content
Thank you mate, im all about quality, i hope my community will grow eventually, im grateful for the ones supporting right now.
Thanks! I'm going to continue maining tone and typing "skill issue" when a monarch can't kill me even after a whole shield upgrade mid battle
Sir, you're disgusting but respect 😄
Fun Fact : Tone cannon has more range than Northstar Railgun and her core deals 10k dmg legion and schorch have 12.500 health
Me as tone when I see an ejected pilot:Hello free kill!
honestly I think the main reason is that her damage is on-par with legion but its bursty so one bad play can kneecap your entire fight
Also the shield is so simple that its hard to get creative with it, and with the space needed for the rockets you actually are most advantageous being out in the open which usually feels like a brain-dead strategy as most shooters (and other titans) have ingrained in us
but also yeah the 40mm cannon in a game where pilots are instagib is not something you can really balance to make fair, most have low damage and a much higher fire rate or a very limited fire rate with instakill. instakill directs and partial damage indirects is really the only logical way to do it but it isnt satisfying similar to how an SMG in Team Fortress 2 isnt satisfying
Tone on paper is a very interesting concept. The fight against her is mainly a dance of tempo where you try to predict and neutralize her rocket salvo while she tries to throw you off, the problem is that every other titan is a dance of range,
ion pokes from afar in small sightlines, legion sets up at long range to try and have a no-mans-land between you and him, northstar uses somewhat of a hybrid of the previous two with an emphasis on repositioning, ronin gets up into your face hyperaggressively & begs to not be stuck in mid-range, scorch tries to corner you and work into close range, and monarch will poke from long and mid range (honestly the real hit & run titan if you ask me).
Ayoooo, its finally here baby!!
haha, it shouldnt have taken this long but im lazy lol, but ill make sure to post more often
As a recovering Tone main I whole heartedly agree. Papa Scorch forever!
im glad youre recovering, many people still struggle to get help.
So, when I ride Aion, when I meet Tone, only the cannon is deliberately hit, and only the tracking rocket is bounced with the vortex shield to raise the opponent's blood pressure.
I absolutely loved walking up, head on to a Tone with flame shield. Pop the canisters over them and drive them straight in the fire.
Watching this as a tone main is… it’s understandable
I really love this game i tryed every titan and yes tone was the easyest to learn but for me is a good thing he is very new player frindly
as a legion main. i never have enough ammo for that stupid shield. thats the only thing keeping you alive.
I used to hate tone, but ever since I became a papa scorch main they’ve been easy thanks to the flammable barrels. Throw one next to the shield, and as long as you’re accurate with your following firewall or thermite launcher then they’ll clear the area pretty quick.
Why do people hate me
I am a tone main, its easy to avoid me but i do admit my salvo is a pain
Honestly I've always thought tone stopped being overpowered when they nerfed her by adding the "TITAN LOCKED ON" alert. It allows counter-play as opposed to before the nerf when you could never be sure (you don't know what upgrades they have or if sonar hit)
One counter to do if you fighting tone is rush them a basically take their shield. It’s perfect. Tone be feelin dat pressuh.
Yep, Tone suffers under pressure, Ronin is a nightmare to unexperienced tones
When that happens I box the opponent out
As an ion main i love seeing a tone. I let them get the lock, and throw the whole thing back after dashing past the shield they put up
good vid
Thank you pilot, more coming for sure
Tbh, as a North star main, the tracking rockets are the worst cause your only method of dealing with them is running away. Same somewhat goes for shield but you can cluster rocket to the left or right of it and push them out of it, or just flank em cause for some reason, they refuse to leave the shield after they place it...
tones camp more than northstars (ima northstar main)
As a former Tone main: this is accurate and is the reason I swapped to Ion.
Pre patch tone. Forgotten to time. Nobody even remembers why tone is hated to begin with.
Banana? Anyways love u dude nice content
hahaha, i think youre going to have to let go of banana, he shows up after you leave all the time xD
Well, someone had to replace the flying tea cup
I love playing tone, I think mine on PS4 is like G15 or something
you can have some fun with her at times, but they it hits you, you are playing with tone and you feel bad haha
Weeeeell no,
Salvo Core go brrrrr
🙂
I play all titans. Tone was one of my fav. I feel like tone abilities are just simple. However, people just dont know how to counter her, which is why they just choose to complain. From my experience, not every tone player is just gonna downright be good but i do see where most people are coming from. I do enjoy tone, despite what anyone has to say.
I remember how much she was a menace on launch. People can't complain much anymore given she was nerfed very quickly and very well balanced.
if im being honest this inspired me to play tone
Go right ahead, this video is meant to be comedic and satiric, tone is a fine titan, shes just a bit annoying at time hehe
Tone is my current main. Used to be ion but she got nerfed to much
yea she got hit hard with nerfs after launch for sure!
- Thunderbolt pro tip, the projectile is slightly affected by your momentum, so whether your flying through the air or corner peeking inside a building, BE MOVING BACKWARDS when you fire for maximum damage duration
- MGL is the best from the rooftops as it allows you to bully behind the cover of the ledge.
Yes. Seriously. (And then-some if you run Bulwark)
Scorch: Honestly, this is a git-gud moment where you really just gotta be quick on your reflexes using the thermal shield EXCLUSIVELY to block the tracking rockets while closing the distance.
I feel so old 7 years
the game is almost 6 years old yet nothing has come out like tf2 is amazing
I just started playing titanfall 2 and using tone. I get frustrated because I deal great damage on titans only to have other players steal kills constantly
I feel like in a lot of games there is that character or play style that is incredibly annoying to fight against, and very annoying or boring to play as, and I feel tone is that for me in this game
I honestly don't think I ever been killed by one while in my legion
Only piece of tone’s kit I like is the 40mm cannon. In TF1 I maimed the 40mm with burst fire on atlas titan and the Sid titan os voice (hands down the best os voice in the game) I just don’t like the rest of her kit as it’s not really my playstyle
filth is my titan filth is my life take whatever you like
Im your 381s sub
thank you so much for the support pilot
i dont know if this is normal, but i can eat a tone core with legion shield... turbo charged legion, light weigh Alloy... no reinforced gun shield, very fun.
Yeah tell 1 is kind of annoying And he's sometimes fun to play as
As a tone main strategy is kill everything run from scorch
As a former tone main I hate tone
Look man, i just love my 40mm to much bro, i used that shit all the time in titanfall 1 and i cant let it go
I play scorch mainly
tone doesn’t bother me much
She’s too easy to use which makes her seem over powered.
I d love to see a video about why people hate legion.
I don’t like legion except on frontier defense
I don’t like legion in general, he’s the REAL braindead Titan if you ask me.
@@CQBlitz0
I only use legion for frontier defense
I l I ke playing tone but I refuse to use the tracker rockets or core people don't know how to respond
When i stared playing the 40ml cannon was anointing as a pilot but at tvt tone is balenst
Im gonna play tone even harder now
Sounds like a skill issue
hahahah, i love that reply
I love tone but agree with the problems people have with her, I think what would a good change would be changing he weapon from 40 mm grenades, to just normal rounds.
more of these videos pls
Yes sir, ill work to make them more often
Why I love Tone:
Semi-auto rifle with great accuracy and fire rate!
A nice little sonar for spotting enemies and giving a small bit of utility to my team
Missiles, very reliable source of damage!
Shield for an "oh shit" button/ great way to start a fight!
I never use missle salvo. Buuuuuut knowing that they will come down has changed that.
dropping a 240 bomb in attrition has never felt so good knowing I'm hated by the community!
As a tone Main I agree to the people who hate him
I stopped playing tone because I felt like it was preforming worse than scorch.
As somebody who only started playing after the game dropped to 3€. I can safely say that tone and maybe scorch are the only titans where i can safely beat a g20+ players titan.
