Neither comparison is correct. This is a proxy war, with Israel and the collective West on one side, the Palestinians and the Arabs, China and Russia on the other. Neither of the main fighters in the war are the big fish.

What I learnt from this is treating someone in good faith to their ill-informed points, passive aggressive demeanour and embarrassing attempts at entrapment is incredibly effective. It'll take me 1000 years to learn it and it's miraculous how Dave does it without hesitation. Beautiful to watch.

At one point, Noam concedes that Palestinians have the right to defend themselves, but says that they can't slaughter civilians (how many civilians is Israel slaughering right now ?), that they can send rockets if they also wanted peace.
But Israel apparently has the right to bomb because it is just assumed that they want peace, even though Netyanahu himself says otherwise in the leaked video, even though there are 750,000 settlers in the West Bank, and only expanding. But they definitely want peace.

Wow. Did Dave know he was walking into a grill session? He killed it on every subject, but I'd be pissed off if I thought I was walking into a friendly conversation and got blindsided with prepared arguments against me.
I liked the final part of the debate, when Dave asks Noam, "Why does Israel have the right to dictate that unless each Palestinian lays down arms, they don't get to have a government, an economy, imports, exports ?". All that Noam was able to mumble is "But they are shooting rockets". The last time Hamas fired rockets was after Sheikh Jarrah. It is not as if they just do it as a hobby. They do it because they want to be seen resisting, which is their job. They are a resistance group. And it is not as if they do it without immediate provocation, regularly (except maybe October 7th). And what are the casualties that these rockets cause ? Not significantly high numbers.
They fired 1500 rockets just this past May. Imagine how many more they could send if they could freely import weapons.

The host is not confident of his views and not interested in finding out the truth, he just wants to control and win the argument with sophistry. So transparent. Who are these Greatest scholars… or better yet where are they from? Because if he looked at many of the greatest scholars from Russia and Europe he would find PLENTY that agree with Dave’s take on NATO movement East.
Seems Noam is only reading scholars from the US. Which means he is looking from only one perspective, and a perspective that is bias on its face. The US is not the only place great scholars come from, perhaps he should read some from Russian in order to get a full understanding.

One can't be seen to learn something on a topic they are implying or directly saying they are correct on, especially if they have references. Doing so would make them look ill informed and their judgement on sources look questionable. Interrupting is a defense mechanism for the ego in this case.
