This is the best demo I've seen of this unit so far. Valeton should be paying you. I appreciate that you presented several of the high gain amps without a bunch of effects obscuring the dry tone. Thanks also for pointing out that these tones were achieved quickly with the amp knobs at noon and the stock IRs. This video has convinced me to go ahead and purchase the GP 200. The other videos I watched did not do anywhere near as good a job of showcasing the amp models.
I'm surprised there aren't more demos of this unit around. Sounds like a solid bit of kit. Insane value too. Awesome playing too bud, incredibly tempted to save up for one of these! ✌️👍😎
@@bcltdinc.8919 That's a fair point. I forgot this has been recently released alongside a few newish multi-fx units. Mg 30, Dnafx Pro, etc ✌️ They're solid though, the demos I've heard so far highlight how far modelling has come. Even the budget stuff is catching up these days! 😊😊
Just bought one for $275@Walmart in Red. Insane value indeed! Same company as Hotone, which I also have/use (Ampero), so you know it's going to be updated/upgraded. Did you ever end up buying one?Best Regards.
I'm looking at this for synth after effects. I would love to hear the shimmer reverb as the alternatives I've seen cost more for just that effect. Presumably they are analogue as opposed to digital modelling but tbh I've seen modeling digital synths also that sound amazing like the 'Sledge' so I have hope that modeled effects can fill that void at a reasonable price.
Great review! I have some questions if u can kindly try and answer some of them? 1. So if I am to use this live, can I output one xlr to the mix board and one normal jack to an on stage amp? 2. Is there a global eq setting? 3. For clean sounds, if not using an amp sim, what is the signal chain you would suggest for a chordy sustained clean tone? Thank you.
Thanks for your comment! So I will try to answer your questions ;-) 1. Yes, you can switch off the cab sim for the left or right output separately and send one signal to an amp/poweramp with a real cab, the other one with cabsim to the FoH. But obviously it works only in mono. 2. It has a 4 band parametric global eq + global high and low cut 3. I'm using only compressor, chorus and EQ on the cleans. In this video, I'm showing my approach: ruclips.net/video/w0VWx6KXuf8/видео.html Hope that helps. Cheers!
@@DanielKraemerMusic so effects are better on MG-30, but how about amps and the rest, Daniel: what is winner for you Valeton or Nux? I am not talking about functionality (3 buttons vs 8 buttons is obvious), so lets talk about sound quality only
I found the GP200 quite harsh/fizzy sounding when i tested it. You make it sound good! But the Reverb/Delay Effects i found definitely full of kinda "artefacts", like its not always tracking the signal right. I have some Videos on the GP200 up on YT as well. I just see you have York Audio IRs already in the Unit. I hadn't. New Update?
Thanks for your comment JayF! My unit came with the York audio IRs, but I got it as a B-stock.So I can't say, if it comes originally with 3rd party IRs.Unfortunately, the latest FW update deleted all the 3rd party IRs...So now I'm using an Ownhammer Mesa V30.Sounds even better then the YA 😉
Turn the manual treble down to like 10:00 and also the bass then tweak an eq and if all else fails, there's a global eq. That's what worked best for my amp amp and cab.
Buying a GP-200 today. Any chance you might sell or give away your patches? Been listening to most of your GP-200 videos and you create patches that I enjoy. Either way, thank you for your work. I know these take a lot of time to record and master/upload. Question: Do you know if the Factory IR's can be downloaded for use on another unit? Best Regards/Best Wishes!
You're welcome! I can't see a way to download IRs from this unit. But I can recommend the Ownhammer Heavy hitters pack (for this unit or others). Regarding the patches: I'm sharing my patches via Facebook usually...If you send me a PN, I could send you some. Cheers! 😁
Thanks for the nice review! Is the wah pedal available for all patches on pressing the expression pedal (this is the case with my current multi-fx pedal, NUX-MG300)? I am thinking of upgrading and am interested in this or the Zoom G6. Also, does this have gapless patch switching?
Thank you for your videos! They are very informative! Can you tell me if there is an option to have a gapless preset switch somehow? For example changing from clean to overdrive amp or vice versa? Thanks!
Here I'm explaining the controls. Changing patches is not totally gapless, but it's ok in my opinion. I personally don't use an amp for cleans, so I would use a scene, in my distorted patch, where amp/cab is turned off and an add. EQ is engaged. Maybe I should do a video about that ;-)
Hi Daniel! Have you tried to connect valeton gp200 directly to any solid state amp like laney, marshall, without using the IR? how does it sound? Does it sound fat like when using an IR on a monitor or thin? Thanks!
Hi Jom, tried that out into the effects return of a Boss Katana head and also a Marshall DSL 100.I even made a video, I guess...it works fine, but you have to tweak it completely different from using an IR and going direct. However, I prefer going direct nowadays, because you have more control and I can get better sound results with that. But if you like the amp-in-the room sound and feel of a 412, the unit is definitely working as preamp/effect in a conventional set.It can even do the 4cm.😉🤟
Thank you for the nice video.. can u help with a Little advice on choosing between Valetone gp 200 and nux mg30 as they are both on your hands.. which one you prefer ton wise...
The MG-30 is obviously a step-up in price and specs. IIRC it supports 24-bit recording and 48kHz IRs (instead of 16-bit/44.1kHz). The GP-100 is competing with the MG-300 and Harley Benton DNAfix GiT. The MG-30 competes with the Harley Benton DNAfix GiT Pro and Line 6 POD Go.
Well, my GP200 arrived today and it has none of the 3rd party IRs (YA, Jens, etc) shown in the video. 😡 They are not listed in the IR list in the owner's manual, so I don't think they really are stock to this unit.

Thanks for the review Daniel. The price of these low cost modelers vs the features they offer is mind blowing.
I've loaded it with ML Sounds Lab IRs in it, sounds awesome. But agree with you about the modulation/delay/reverb, not the best but playable.
