- Lots and lots of life updates in this vlog! My teaching life has been a mess and I've been struggling at my school so here are some realities of teaching.This weekend the weather was amazing in Madrid so I'm excited to show you guys more of what it is like to live in Madrid. 3:36 I relate so much! I have a student with violent tendencies this year. To help him manage and mitigate his emotions I have designated a space in the classroom (it’s a shelf cupboard with the doors and shelves removed so he can crawl in but I can still see him), that is just for him. I do not enter that space, and there is a stuffed animal that is only allowed to be in that space. When he needs a “break” he hands me a “break card.” Then he can take some alone quiet time to calm down. When he is elevated I give him two choices, he can walk to his quiet space and take a break or I will help him walk there. It has taken all school year for him to arrive at a place where he can predict when he needs a break before becoming elevated. It’s not perfect, but it helps him be safer when he is elevated - sorry for such a long response.
I love this idea!!!! I might try using a physical break card like you suggested
OMGGGGGG. in the video I just watched of yours previously, you were in Florida! I have a lot to catch up on and I haven't even subbed yet!! this is totally inspirational as I am currently working as a sub TA working on my experience to one day have my own classroom even if that means international

Hey Cristina ( or anyone who sees this comment! ) my name is Anna and I may possibly be accepting a kindergarten teacher position in the fall! One thing that I am worried about is that I do not have an education degree; I just will have a music degree. ( it was interesting they didn’t require that ; but it was because of close relation; and other experience I have had with kids). I am REALLY excited!! I have been watching your videos; for example; teaching tips for first year teachers; and others; but I would appreciate ANY advice on simply how to teach kids that age; lesson planning; how to organize a day; or anything you would say to a first year teacher in one comment! Thank you so much!
