Man, I hate what they've done with this game, and how entitled this company is.
Kingsisle has only ever developed 2 games, even though they've existed since 2005, and they're employing ~100 full time employees.
In other words, they spend around 8 million dollars on salaries each year, and what do they have to show for it? They make less content than a single part time indie dev does.
This studio is so incredibly lucky, to be earning so much money from one singular game, they've developed 16 years ago. By all means, this company deserved to go bankrupt already 10 years ago, considering their lack of productivity.
And what have they done in 16 years of development, with over 100 full time employees? Basically nothing, considering the amount of money burnt, and the amount of time wasted.
CD Project Red, for comparison, developed Witcher 3, in 3.5 years, with only 90 employees. Now compare that, to Wizard after 16 years of development and having more devs.
Even look at Stardew Valley, and the amount of content it has, and imagine that it was all developed by only ONE person in 8 years.
And it's worth noting that Kingsisle used to employ close to 300 people at their peak. I have no clue what these people were doing, because for sure they weren't working, because they haven't produced either a new game, or any content.
Think about the amount of content we get every year, considering that this company is employing 100 people, what are they doing? Models are low quality, so they can't take long to make, and on top of that they reuse models all the time, half of the enemies are just recolors of the same model. I genuinely think that what Kingsisle outputs in a year, could be made in 1-2 weeks, if they actually had a work ethic instead of slacking off their entire life.

yeah I honestly wonder what HR thinks when they see 10 years worth of experience at KI on an applicant's resume lol, like do they wonder is this person going to be a good fit in a more fast paced environment that seems to be more commonplace in the rest of the industry. Or is KI expecting that same amount of work out of their employees and somehow they're putting out less content(which means the bottleneck is elsewhere).

Yea sure, those devs may not care (even tho I don't exactly believe that) about their games but seldom if ever do you hear a ton of complaints about those games. KI not caring about their game directly reflects in the current state of wiz and how the players view it.

I’ve been a casual player since late 2008. The game isn’t as accessible as it once was. I think the game was at its peak when there was no barrier of entry for pvp and ANY player could pvp or pve. Now it’s nearly impossible since raids got introduced and max level pvp requires you to have raid gear! An easy solution would be making raids way more accessible for players. Literally cut the player and azoth requirements to a feasible amount. I have friends who have literally quit playing because raids weren’t possible for them since the requirements of even getting one set up was too high. I think by making raids/guilds more accessible and providing more content for raids could keep things interesting. I don’t think it’s super realistic to expect a world every year but maybe by introducing a brand new raid every season with limited time seasonal pve/pvp drops (sort of like Fortnite) they could avoid people leaving the game due to the game “having nothing to do”. They could introduce raids like the nightmare dungeon for guilds that require 4-6 players instead of 12. This could help keep things fresh. This would help make raids way more accessible and give wizards an incentive to keep playing the game.

I've had some ideas for improvements.
Life could use an overheal mechanic. Basically they would always be able to use their heal spells regardless of Max HP, and gain temporary hit points.
Ice wizards could use some form of shield throw on their cards. (Ex. Ice Wyvern 335-395 +25 per 🛡️)
Give balance wizards a damn convert, (convert balance into another school at random) This would potentially allow them to use the spirit traps and elemental traps more efficiently with balance spells.
Myth could benefit from being able to summon three minions at once even the basic minions. Or a card that would allow them to rank up their minion.
Mind you these are all just spitball ideas But I think it's important to brainstorm ideas.

I played wizard 101 for a while and I can definitely say it needs a graphic update and some more areas to be free to play. but most of the “problems” I see people complaining about is mostly pvp related. And let’s be real a majority of the game is pve players. Pvp players always have something to complain about everytime a new meta comes. The pvp community is just toxic. And unless you spend an insane amount of time and money not to mention all the metas you have to keep up with I just decided never to pvp. If you wanna enjoy wiz I recommend creating a new wizard and play on a school you never have before. Rinse and repeat but stay away from the toxic arena.

They making the same mistake as toontown. Playing it safe. Toontown died because they didn't change with the times. The server hardware got old. So the game started lagging. This might start to happen to our game. Security might become a problem. They be around for five to seven years.

I have the Frontier Dragon mount (yes I'm old) and pretty much stopped playing when Magus/GM pvp died years ago. The game peaked when level 60 was the cap, everything after that has felt completely soulless. ToH, Briskbreeze, WW, WinterTusk and all of the content that was spread around from 50-60 feels like a dream at this point. Darkmoor was officially when the game was too far gone to save. I pray every day that a private server with a level cap of 60 with some spell rebalancing becomes popular in the next decade and can fly under the radar of KI but also have a decent playerbase.

  • @vic_finesse

I agree, wiz has about 5 years or less, at some point the nostalgia will wear off and people will see the game for what it is. Wiz is the monopoly of MMOs but MMOs in general aren't doing well. Games like Fortnite, GTA, COD, apex legends, overwatch, 2k, madden, etc. will continue to dominate because they are consistently updated with content, things to do, and the graphics are up to date; things wiz has failed to do over the span of 16 years. A world people can complete in a matter of days, a gauntlet that is only relevant until you get the gear is not enough to keep players engaged; especially making raid gear the only usable pieces for pvp.
things wiz/KI should do in order to stay competitive:
    - update the graphics (again)
    - add more side worlds or activities with rewards worth pursuing
    - add mount and pet stitching to further improve customization
    - not make pvp so difficult to get into, since it was one of the staples of the game
    - add crown sales more often so people could actually look forward to spending
    - possibily add voice chat
    - bring back double seeds during double gardening events
    - bring back school identity in pvp, balancing all school just leaves hitter schools at a disadvantage
because of their low health. atleast give them something to counter the higher health schools.
    - lower the amount of people needed for raids and the degree of difficulty if the gear is going to be needed to enter pvp

This is the same company that fired Lydia Greyrose and moved Dworgyn to mobile game development that never came to fruition. I've been playing off and on for almost the whole time wizard101 has been around yes there are things I don't like in wizard101 however overall it's great obviously they are doing something right or they wouldn't be around if they weren't as for the graphics I love them.
Personally I refuse to do PVP because I feel it's way too toxic. And PVE has more to do than I care to do but am forced to in order to get certain items and being as I prefer to purchase every area I don't care to waste Crowns on much else. As for those complaining that 1 school has it too good or too bad, it seems like they cry when it's not in their favor. I currently have Wizards in every school and am working on getting them all up to my max Wizard's level then going up with each at the same pace.
There are improvements I'd love to see like being able to effectively change the skin of your pets the same way as you do with Hats, Robes and boots. And also allow us to change their color in the dye shop as well so we can make them appear in our school colors if we want. And let us dye our mounts as well.

I'm curious how buffing/nerfing schools through their stat caps would affect the meta. Like instead of only changing spells, they could change stat caps along with some spell changes. Like maybe reduce the resist cap of this school and maybe raise the pierce cap of that school. I dunno. Probably also normalize shadow rating as well to open up more viable gear options

Game will die when the average player reaches an age where they no longer care or have enough time to play it. Most players right now are working adults who play the game for nostalgia or as a comfort game, wiz rarely if ever attracts new players and keeps them. Wiz has been around long enough that kids back then are young adults now so for some a good part of their life is wiz. As a young adult you generally have more time and effort to play but that slowly goes away. Just look at ferric, he played it a lot for years but quit to go on with his life when he was older. Pretty much every content creator is in their 20's, in college, or working but we all get tired of playing the same thing for years on end. Once majority of the player base grows past that young adult phase It will decline. Newer players are not coming in fast to replace the vetern players. The game is utter dog water at introducing new players to the game and insists on expecting everyone to play a game with decade old designs and graphics. I've met legit causal new players who just bought membership with only a few hours a day to play a week. They got stuck at marley bone for weeks because they did not know how to buy gear or even strategies on how to play, just spammed the highest damaging spell and hope you don't fizzle. The combat has a huge learning curve but with no mastery, once you do master it, it's just the same thing over and over. Buff aoe hit. A casual player does not, nor wants to look a video on how to play the game. Look at a wikia page for the 5 paragraph long explantions of a bosses cheats. With so many better video games for much cheaper, no new player would ever stick with this game long term. Espeically with all these game passes, f2p games out there with modern graphics and design.
Wizard 101 has fostered one of the most interesting gaming communites I've ever seen. Most players are relativily old compared to most games which are played primiarily by teenagers. It's main and most of the time only draw is nostalgia from the older playerbase and working with the game's decade old engine and code. Meaning drastic changes never happen, combined with a out of touch dev team splits the community in two. The people who only play for notsolgia and don't want any massive change because their emotional attachment blinds them. Then we have the side the has grown frustrated over the years of putting all their time and money into a game that has not changed at all for years on end. They want change but it never happens and get mad at everything because fundamental issues and the same devs have plagued this game for forever. And those people are split betweem pve and pvp. It is the worst of both worlds. Most people who play the game are veterns who've played for years and know everything about it, yet despite what normally happens with other games, the wiz veterns and whales stayed playing for years creating an insular community that never grows beyond the wizard101 enclave yet does not drastically shrink in size. The subscription model forces any of the remaining player base to get wrung out of any of their remaining money as people quitting this game activily hurts their profit, whereas most games make most if their money with the first one time buy of 60$ if a wiz player stops playing, they stop paying each month. The subscription model also negates any future profit from dlc because dlc must bascially be built into the game as no one is going to pay for the subscription plus a dlc for the game they've already paid for monthly. Meaning the only ways to make a profit are micro transactions which are most potent when they affect actual gameplay and not be purely cosmetic. Which creates a negative feed back loop of the only meangingful changes the devs every make aside from new worlds once a year, are micro transactions because they refuse to adapt to a different model since whales alone can sustain them and they've captured a fan based with money willing to waste. The gamr being dead has been happening for yeara yet it continues to go side ways, not growing nor shrinking. The game is well past it's prime and everyone who has heard the game has already made up their mind as to if they're going to play it. It cannot capatilize on anything expect what it's already been doing. They don't make any other games, there are no sequals, it's not a franchise, it does not do anything beyond exsist as a video game. A simillar situation is happening to Smite right now, a moba game. It has been around for so long and it basically is the peak of genre but is still not the most active. Everyone already knows about the game and decided to play it or not which to years of sideways trends where it would not drastically increase or decrease but stagnant, leaving an air of futility as most of the player base got bored rather then mad or happy. Their dev team actually being smart and progressive are completely re making the game from the ground up. Replacing decade old code and design with modern practices and graphics. Drawing in a huge amount of new attention from way outside the community because to them it's basically a new huge game coming out while the smite community is getting a free upgrade to the game they already play. If wizard 101 did something akin to that many people would come back. A complete overhual, making it play better, faster, smoother, look better, more engaging, a better devlopement cycle, etc. Yet they won't or never will because what they have done has always worked and you don't fix what's not broken. No one has the power to start a massaive boycott nor would most people particepate. A large group of people indivually decided this game is worth dumping all their money into and that is enough to keep the ship running.
Idk why I wrote all this im high asf rn but as with most things, people who critque the most are often the ones who love the game the most and just want to see it improve. Which wiz will never do.
