Im the same… he was kind, brave and inspirational for anyone with addiction or who knows anyone suffering with this horrible disease. Changed people’s lives, and his legacy will continue helping others… it’s just horrible he will not in person 😣

Nobody will ever understand the effect this show had in my life. They saved me. They kept me going as a brand new mom in 2003, a lonely military wife with a husband at sea and a brand new baby. I always had Friends playing so I was never alone.

You and me both.. Never had the honour of meeting him, but it feels like Ive lost a friend. Never been this upset over a loss of someone I didnt even know. Teary eyed just writing this.

Too bad there are several stories about how bad of a person he was. My personal favorite is when Louis CK and them are telling the story about how they were at some Hollywood thing with Perry, and it was some fancy thing where they were giving free drinks and food, and Louis went to tip the waitress $20, and they all said Perry had a meltdown that he was gonna tip the waitress. They said the waitress was standing there, and Perry was going off saying not to tip her, and she was saying no he can tip me, and Perry was super rude to her. My other favorite is when that guy Ross from the Tonight Show was telling Jay about meeting his hero Perry, and said he just ignored him and pretended he was not even there, then he says now he is my ex hero. You only ever hear those stories about two people from Friends, Perry and Lisa Kudrow. You never hear that any of the other four are rude. I remember Spencer Pratt posted a tweet saying Kudrow was the worst human he has ever met, and a bunch of other famous people started commenting agreeing with him.

I still cannot believe that Matthew Perry is gone. I don't have enough words to describe how funny and talented Matthew Perry. But most of all, Matthew was a beautiful, sweet soul. And I wished he were here, too. Love you Matty! God bless!
My brain is just refusing Matthews death. How can one of our Friends be gone?! And at such a young age at that?! Poor Matthew. He was absolutely desperate and longing for a 'normal family.' The wife and kids. He said he would even love to be a stepdad to kids- now that shows how big his heart was. I'm so sorry for him that he never got to experience that. He made us so happy for 10 years on one of THE most iconic shows in history- I say this as a non-American, F.RI.E.N.D.S. was a GLOBAL phenomenon. We'll remember him forever. It's gonna take me a LONG time before I'm able to watch an episode again and I know that when I do they're all gonna be tainted by an uncurable sadness now.

I also thought about that. Matthew mentioned wanting to have kids one day and tell them jokes so they can tell their mom about it to make her laugh. I felt sad for a couple of days after hearing the news and maybe 'til now but I feel that he's still here with us, he's alive because of all the joy he has given us. That's his impact to many.
I love that Mr. Burrows isn't even trying to put on a brave face for the cameras, he's genuinely sad because he genuinely cared about Matthew. My heart goes out to him and the castmates, especially Jennifer because i know she had a special relationship with Matthew.

I was just thinking that. I was like, the director looks so shocked and sad. Almost like he was trying not to cry. I imagine, you know, you’re probably a family if the chemistry of the cast is good, and then how close the creators, writers, and directors, and Crew get with the cast. Vice Versa. Because you’re working everyday with them, and creating a great project. Mathew will be missed, but not forgotten.

It's been 5 days & I'm still trying to deal with Matthew not being with us anymore. As I mentioned in other stories about his death. It's funny how us viewers & feel that some TV characters are our friends. So nice that the cast (still) consider each other family while cast mates from other shows can't stand each other !! We Miss you Matt but we know you are happy & @ peace so that helps a little !!

Ive watched all the episodes of friends and when I'm strolling to the channel and friends is on I have to watch it again. It never gets old. I'm sad that he left us to early. But his memories will always be there through friends. RIP Matty thank you for being a friend..❤
I'm listening to Matthew's book again, for the 4th time. He was struggling his whole life to get and to stay sober. It's honestly so sad. I can only hope Matthew is at peace and making his buddies in heaven laugh. May all of his friends on Friends and in real life and especially his family, find peace and healing, knowing he's at peace. My heart breaks for all who struggle with addiction, for this is an all too common issue in our world, and we need to find a way to stop big pharma from handing out pain pills. I do believe Matthew was wired to respond differently to pain killers and to alcohol, and, sadly, it was his ongoing battle. May his story and legacy help others to get and to stay sober. ❤

I've read so many comments saying they've never cried over a celebrity's death until Matthew Perry died. I got teary eyed when Ray Liotta died, but I've never shed tears like I have over Matthew. I truly felt like I'd been gut punched when I heard about his death. I'm a die hard Friends fan who watched it faithfully for 10 years, and never go to bed without watching one or two episodes of reruns. Matthew was the perfect Chandler Bing and would just crack me up with his sarcastic but never cruel remarks. Knowing he battled addiction all that time and for many years afterwards breaks my heart. Yet he tried so badly to help others who were struggling. Matthew Perry was one of a kind who felt like a friend, and the world is a sadder place without him. Rest in peace Matthew 🙏, and know you are loved and missed by so many. ❤️

Devastated but listening to his audiobook is strangely comforting and he should be remembered first and foremost as someone who tried to help people 💗

Seeing Matthew/Chandler was like seeing myself, same type humor, maneirisms but also the same insecurities and struggles around people, women, life overall. Struggles about just being, existing. So I really got him and his personality whenever he opened up about It in interview. It was understanding but also being understood. "I get him and he'd totally understand me too". The constant need of making people laugh but not in a healthy way like he said in the Reunion and interviews. How making this your personality is dangerous because when you're not being the clown you're just.. nothing , nothing is left to others. I get It. Also dealt with adicion in the family so I understand that aswell and never judged him. Thats's why Perry was more than Chandler to me and why it It still hard to accept his passing.

I feel about his death in a similar way as when Princess Diana passed. She was just coming into her own, had a fresh start, a new love, two beautiful boys, and so much life ahead of her. Matty was finally sober, helping others, working out, sharing his journey, and had so much life ahead of him. 😢
It is really sad. I was 20 when the show started. I grew up with the characters.. I feel like I’ve lost a friend ..Matty was a brilliant comic actor and a brilliant person in general. He will be missed dearly..

This is shocking. I know people have said Matthew didn’t want to be remembered as “Chandler “, but for his dedication to helping others get sober. Matthew made so many people around the globe laugh with his character, he healed people with happiness, he made us forget our worries. THAT is impossible to forget. Friends was a part of my upbringing, I was 11 yrs old when it started and 21 when it ended. I loved chandlers character the most out of all the characters, but followed Matthew Perrys career the most. He will be greatly missed, thank you friend for all the laughs. ❤

I haven’t cried this much over a celeb death since Norm Macdonald. Really wasn’t expecting to be this upset over Matthew Perry, haven’t even watched Friends since college almost a decade ago, but every single thing people who knew him have to say about him is so moving and beautiful. I keep picturing his father’s face in the cruel paparazzi photo taken outside Matthew’s house the night he died and I burst into tears… you could see in his eyes how devastated and and heartbroken and in shock he was. I’ve struggled with addiction for years and to know Matthew Perry had gotten clean and sober in the years prior to his death but he was STILL robbed of life at 54 feels so unfair. I am so glad he was able to do the Friends reunion and write his memoir before his untimely passing.
He was so talented that he even used to write some of his own dialogues and he was the only cast member who was allowed to sit inside with the writers while preparing the script. This tells us how talented he was! It's sad that he couldn't showcase more of his talent obviously bcoz of his personal struggles. I wish he could, if he did he definitely would have turned out like Robin Williams or perhaps even greater. I adore Chandler's character and I'll always remember Perry that way smiling and also knowing the fact that he helped a lot of people struggling with these issues. Rest in peace dear Chan Chan man.

Matthew you will forever live in so many ♥️’s. You will never be forgotten. He decided to write the book with hopes to help others going through any sort of addiction struggles. This was his legacy to help others. "He was emotionally in a good place. He looked good. He quit smoking ... He was sober." He was wanting to build a rehab facility so he could help others. Matthew Perry was ask in a interview how would you like to be remembered He said that he wanted to be remembered "as somebody who lived well, loved well, “he was a seeker" and that "his paramount thing is that he wants to help people."

This is one that will hurt for a while
I never cried for a celebrity passing away. I sobbed uncontrollably on Saturday. On Friday evening I just finished his book, and I was feeling happy that he was recovering. I wondered how he was doing now. The next day I read the news of his death, and it shocked me to my core. On Sunday I brought flowers to the fictional Friends apartment building in New York City. He was my favorite actor from my favorite show, it's going to be hard without him 😢
That's so sad! Not very good timing. But at least maybe we can assume these last couple years were better for him

I also found myself completely devastated when I read the news, I couldn't stop crying and that had never happened before with a celebrity. It really felt like I lost someone close. If Chandler was so lovable as a character, I can imagine how amazing Matthew was as a person. I wish a soon resignation to the other 5 friends, his family, and all the people who knew him.

This really just doesn't seem real to me. I started watching friends from the pilot and was instantly hooked. I use to tell my boss I didn't care to work late any night except for Thursdays because I had to be home in time for Friends. I never missed an episode and I have the whole series on DVD too so I can watch it anytime I want. Friends got me through some really rough times. Two divorces and a 10 year cocaine and pain pill addiction and multiple stays in the mental hospital so I could always relate to Matthew and his plight. I too went to numerous rehabs and it would work for awhile and then I would fall off the wagon and do it all over again but i kept trying and now I'm 10 years sober. I wish I could have told Matthew how his own story helped me and how Friends saved me.
Wait, unknown actors?!? Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer were all known actors when "Friends" started.
In particular, Cox had already played Michael J. Fox's girlfriend on "Family Ties" in the 1980s.
At any rate, RIP Mister Perry, you will be missed.
