TCU has been producing some really good defensive players even though the Big XII has had a bad reputation when it comes to defense. A player who has stood out is TCU Safety Trevon Moehrig. He is considered the best safety in the draft & even won the Thorpe Award, which is given to the best defensive back in college football.

bro i’m hyped for this years draft safeties are stacked this year. honestly i hope cowboys can pick up a corner in the first round and one of the safeties in the second. there’s a couple good safeties so they literally can’t go wrong with either.

Great vid as always. DBs are highly regarded and Moehrig, being at the top of the list with richie grant imo, should go in the 1st.... only thing that could get him out of the first round is that this is a pretty good Safety class so teams may decide to go for a thiner position early ( like IDL ), knowing that there will still be a good safety or two on the board later

The Jim Thorpe Award Winner is given to the Best Defensive Back in College Football. Trevon Moehrig was awarded this award in 2020 for his play at TCU. Moehrig skillsets makes him a Traditional Free Safety. He's a Rangy Athlete that always plays the ball when it's up in the air. Trevon's Quick Instincts helps tremendously when making decisions on the football field. Gives you a solid tackler in open space which is vastly important if you are the last line of defense. While there is positives, there is negatives in his game as well. Moehrig tends to rely on his speed to recover over the top which is very risky at the next level, and this happened frequently on film. Also, there is times he over pursuits along the boundaries. NFL Draft Analyst Dane Brugler often compares Trevon to Cincinnati Bengals Safety Jessie Bates III. With that being said, Moehrig could sneak into the back end of Round 1 but most likely Early Round 2.
