Great interview! Love the questions! New subscriber! You asked a great question on what it’s like to be a guntuber… Got me thinking, as you are a guntuber as well, what would you do for fun if you took a 30 day vacation from all guntubing “work”?
Jim's (backfire) entusiaism is very contagious. Very educated young man and still " blue collar minded " . You both have something in common. My respect to both of you
Slipped through the cracks, my ass! I’ve never seen Gavin answer one question here or on his patreon. He’s busy with more important things than us average followers even if we pay to support the channel.
In my humble opinion, Jim's presentation and his way of explaining things is both engaging and down to earth. If something is dumb he says so. He doesn't appear to be swayed by trends or money. He's honest and I like that a lot. I am subscribed to both of you and I have learned so much from both of you I can't express how appreciative I am. As far as what I would like to see... well, I am a left handed shooter with not a lot of money to spend. The rifle I waited 10 years to purchase for hunting (which I am also a beginner at) is a Browning BLR in .300 WM. I am not particularly fond of left handed bolt actions so a lever was a great option for me. To be honest I have not spent a lot of time combing through the historical videos on either of your channels to see if that rifle was featured but searches don't turn up a lot of content in general. A feature about the BLR would be awesome!
Great info from Both of you! As a small channel I have hesitated to invest in equipment, learn to make better content! After hearing what you go through. Thanks for the honesty!!! Let’s go Rumble!!!!!
Fantastic video, I was engaged all the way thru. Rare to find a video of such quality. Great info!!!! I guess that all these modern innovations on rifles is held back by "Traditional hunters" as much as manufacturers.
You guys are just relaxing to watch! Great content your editing is superb both of you! Outstanding video quality and blending! Very good job you two! Very easy to watch and follow! Pause come back! Doesn’t matter! Great production quality fellas!
Really enjoyed this discussion and during the discussion I realized why I enjoy both these channels so much. You guys discuss products across the range that most of us can afford and enjoy unlike some other channels that stick to single manufacturers as they are sponsored by those manufacturers. Keep it up and look forward to upcoming content. Now to get Gavin to build me a 7PRC
Hey you younger guys are awesome, don't know if you have US military experience but you guys give good perspective on weapons evaluation and some people that could advance a career in development or even help a vet continue to support themselves and their friends..
Jim, it’s great to see two of my favorite you tubers collaborating. Two completely different contents and love them both. Jim, please say rifle instead of gun. I know it’s petty but I can say it because I’m a loyal follower of your channel. 2 great channels! Thanks guys!
I bought my kids the sig cross for Christmas after watching Jim’s videos. I keep checking their web site to see when Sig will make it in a long action. Maybe y’all could help with that.
I think a fun one to do would be to do a Backfire reviews an Ultimate Reloader Rifle build! That would be awesome. Take some of the things he talked about in the video and build him a rifle around that and have him test it out! It would not only promote Backfire, but also the new gunsmithing stuff you are doing with Ultimate Reloader!
Great discussion!! Definitely have y'all on my Rumble list (have for a bit now). Starting to follow as many 2A people as able on Rumble as the content is not mucked around with like it is on RUclips. Will be taking my new Sako S20 7RM with Athlon Ares BTR II 4.5-27x50 and Atlas BT65-LW17 bipod to the range on Friday, to dial-in the scope. Later this month, I'll be hitting a longer range in AZ near my Mom's place, to really see the rifle in action. :)
After I got my first suppressor for my 22-250 AR and 223 Coyote guns I do not want to hunt without one! I can't wait to receive my 30 caliber can for my deer hunting rifles. To be able to hear the slight crack of a 22-250 and hear the bullet thump is just wild. Especially when my ears are not ringing. This video covers everything so well! Great job both of you! Also I'd like to see someone do a video on the Savage Lightweight Storm in 7mm-08 or anything really. It's a 5.5lb rifle that there's not much content about.
The latest and greatest are on if you need a new rifle but we should never forget the reason the PRC are coming out is to get Hornaday more market shares in ammo and rifles! The guns you already own will work great for most hunting and you more then likely will shoot the one you already have better!
I’ve spent a lot of time shooting at moving deer off hand. What I learned is that you have to turn off your bird shooting brain. You can’t lead them with a high power rifle at short ranges. Your brain will tell you to put it on the front of the chest and swing through but you really have to put it right on and swing through. Learned by shooting a few in the neck. Realized I was hitting where I was holding. Shotgun slug you have to lead. A fast rifle, no lead.
Hmm....and I am sure they will flag me for this...but it might just be time for someone to spin up a platform specific to Guntoobers...while its great to have rumble and (and possibly twitter) there is such a huge benefit to educating folks in this sport. Gavin you were an engineer at MS at one point (at least I think you were)...I think its time :-) What a great interview...I just recently found Jim's stuff and its top notch.
My opinion - sig cross hasn't "caught on" in large numbers because it is WAY too expensive for the average hunter. Large majority of hunters are not wealthy people - they are blue collar people who save up for months so they can go get a $400 rifle from Walmart. Sig Cross is way more money than I could afford for a hunting rifle.
I bought a 6.5 Creedmoor upper assembly and a CMMG trigger kit back when the SR stuff was getting criticized a few years ago(4), but I have still never fired it because I am a 308 and 30-06 guy. I use 22lr in my 15's. I only go to the range about 4 times a year to get ready for muzzleloader season and regular hunt if I get one.
I have 3 favorite videos from backfire. His best rifles, best scopes, and best cartridges for hunting big game. Game changer to picking a good combo when I don’t have any experience.
Always atleast 2, I was 10 years Air Force avionics troop, so I absolutely had to wear plugs and headset, because when I was fueling or bringing in an H60, H1, C130, and my last 7 years it was F16's and had to key codes on the fuselage at EOR always use double when I shot.
I have a friend who guides Elk hunting here in the Rockies. He's been a guide for 17 plus years. I've shot 308 for several years and now looking for a new cartridge so I asked him what works best on Elk as he would know. His ranch took almost 300 Elk last year. He said he and his fellow guides like to see their hunters bring the following: 7mm mag, 30-06, 300 wm, the 6/5 PRC, & 270. He also said 308 works ok, and he really likes the 300 short mag. I noticed quickly he left out the 6/5cm so I said, well what about the 6/5cm? He said Oh.. we call that the 6/5 Needmoor! HAHAHA... Like I said, he's been guiding over 17 years and they take hundreds off the ranch every year. Shot placement is paramount with any cartridge, of course.
Gavin, I want to pose a request/challenge build for your channel/ also for Jim @ Backfire. BCA is coming out with a 300 Win mag AR style rifle this spring. My challenge to you/Jim: would you interested in taking this XL platform AR and turning it into a 7 PRC..... I would love to see what there 7 PRC could do in the AR platform especially in different barrel lengths. 24,22,20,18,16... Thanks.
Browning uses both M13x1.25 and M13x0.75 muzzle threads on their Hell's Canyon Rifles. Apparently, there is no rhyme or reason why they use which threads on which rifles. Xcaliber Firearms make adapters to 5/8-24 threads for both sizes. They also have a printable pdf to help determine your rifles threads. It is called Hell's Canyon Thread Pitch Identifier. Many lathes, especially older American Made ones, simply cannot cut metric threads. Those lathes do not have the correct gearing to produce the pitch distances required. The pitch distance (in/thread) is 0.0492 for M13x1.25 and 0.0295 for M13x0.75.
I have to say that i'm a big fan of both of your channels and this video as no exception! To answer your question as far as what content i would like to see, i feel like if you did a deep dive into some 6mm ARC that would be great. Whether that's in a bolt or a gas gun theirs just not a lot of good content into the benefits this cartridge can bring to the table, especially ballistics wise in an ar platform over 5.56. But performance even in a prs style build because of its light recoiling for spotting your shots and insane barrel life as well as being saami approved. I know there's a bit vodo when it comes to barrel lengths vs accuracy for this cartridge and it would definitely be something id be interested in. I built one in an ar15 platform and took a whitetail at 360 yards this last year and it dropped like a sack of potatoes to me it shows a lot of promise.
Great interview, Jim I must have a real treasure in my kimber, my pencil barreled kimber is printing .5” all day long with my suppressor, be happy to share picture with you, of course this is with hand load.
Just got my 1st 6.5 creedmoor (my first bolt gun) got a used weatherby really great deal at my lgs, I really want a 30 06 next, 300 win mag or 338 lapua after.
As far as the stocks I totally agree. They need to be more ergonomic however as much as I would like an MDT I refuse to pay the crazy price they want. Boyd’s might weigh a little more but their price is where I like it.
I'm so jealous of Jim. Brilliant, successful and has a wife who complains about the best things ever like the lack of mantle caribou. What an awesome life!
My 70 year old mom took a cow elk at over 200 meters this year, with a 6.5 creedmoor. No tracking, animal expired essentially on the spot. I'm currently building a custom 7PRC for myself, but....uh...for 99% of everyeone does not need the latest greatest.
Out local Sportsmans Warehouse had gotten TWO 6.8 Westerner over the last year and a half. Ammo everywhere, no guns. I see the exact same for the 7PRC. I hope I am wrong.
I'm almost 60 now and back in the day no triggers wherever more than about 4 lb and that was considered too heavy. Back then every trigger I pulled felt to be about 3 and I measured a lot so I know what I'm pulling now without having to measure it within about a half a pound
I bought 2 sets of axil deluxe GS as "xring" and others said the professional shooters were using those. They are kinda inconvenient as the cord catches my collar and pulls. I like Walker quads because you get some sense of direction the sound comes from. I would love a review of silynx products, Jim. Please.
Your chassis discussion was much appreciated. What would be the recommendation for a beginner chassis if I were to get one to put onto a Remington 700 instead of the standard stock?
Loved the video he did on building/ going over that hnt 26 rifle its niiiiiccceee. I'd like him to do a video on what's it like going through tsa to Africa. Is it a pain. How's flying with a class 3/nfa item. Do's and don'ts?
On your blue Wildebeest, you would have to shoot at them and black wildebeest with different calibers a few more times. Then you will realise it's not the 6.5 that was the problem, those wildebeest just take very long to realise they have to fall over now. 270, straight through the heart, ran three very wide circles. 30-06 also straight through the heart, it ran 200 meters, and then just stood there waiting for another shot.
Love both of your channels.....watch them daily. Btw....RUclips ignores their own guidelines when it comes to guns and gun content. I have a huge gun and reloading background that I made an LE career out of, and I considered doing a YT channel, but after watching their shenanigans, that whole idea died. I feel bad for the gun & reloading channels (like yours) that have to do all the hard work just to have them (and their gun ignorance) strike it with a click of the mouse. Pure hypocrisy and idiotic ignorance.
Thank you guys. Thanks Jim regarding the 6.5cm it's impressive caliber but I'm sick of it. I'm more of a big caliber guy for Beluga whales and Narwhals and walrus like 416 Remington or 338 or 375 RUM.
That is one thing I do not understand about carbon barrels? How does the carbon fiber help it be cool? I would almost think if anything it would insulate the skinny barrel underneath
Hey guys good to see you two together on RUclips. @ultimatereloader you have info on your Lapua built rifle you have hanging in the background. Thanks for your videos
I just bought a 308 cuz I can't ever find 3006 ammo on the shelf. Never thought I'd see the day when 3006 wasn't on every store shelf. I do always see a pile of 308 and 6.5xreedmore. i went w 308 cuz I have seen several animals wounded w 6,5. They die but takes to long. I hate when they suffer. Ware are all the 3006 guys went?
Hi everyone! You can subscribe to Backfire on RUclips HERE: ruclips.net/user/Backfire
Great interview! Love the questions! New subscriber!
You asked a great question on what it’s like to be a guntuber… Got me thinking, as you are a guntuber as well, what would you do for fun if you took a 30 day vacation from all guntubing “work”?
My brain glitched for a few seconds when I saw the video thumbnail with Jim's face and Gavin's logo
same haha
Same here! Haha
Lol
Same here. 😂
Jim's (backfire) entusiaism is very contagious. Very educated young man and still " blue collar minded " .
You both have something in common. My respect to both of you
Thank you!
Glad to see you two together. Loved the chat.
Really enjoyed your candidness about the problems with YT and all the hard work it takes making your videos. Very much appreciate the both of you.

Also glad Rumble and Twitter were mentioned.

Happy to see two of my favorites together.
2 of my favorite channels getting together. Sweet!!
Great conversation fellas ... thanks
Excellent video I did subscribe to both of your channels on rumble thank you very much for the info.
Awesome! Can't wait to watch both my favorite personalities on the same screen.
Excited to see your ELR videos
Thanks Adam- it’s going to be an adventure!
Great to see a collaboration between you two. Really enjoyed the video!

Jim my favourite video Scopes under 500.00 .Very much enjoy both of you guys.Nice to see you come together to do this one .
Two greats. What an awesome show 👍👊🏽
If your going forward with more interviews please get Johnny’s Reloading Bench. That guy is very entertaining.
Good idea!
The 6.5 prc gel test video was my favorite backfire video
Great discussion, many good topics covered. Thanks.

Come on Adam. These two dudes are 2 of the biggest bougie boys on YT for firearm content. They're not concerned about cost in any way.
Great content and collaboration! ✨️✨️
I rarely watch RUclips - these are two of the very few i pay attention to.
No shit. You're too busy policing your comment section and deleting comments.

Whew! I thought this was an interview that somehow “Backfired”! 🤣
agree about doubling up with ear protection and I only shoot 223 with Harrels two port muzzle brake/tuner

223 rem 1-7 twist 26 " barrel shooting a Berger 85.5 or Hornaday 88 eld-m
Love to see the results!
Thanks
Texas is still the land of 30-06 and 270, sometimes I wish there was newer stuff out here
Next time a nice scope arrives at your door and you are NOT excited, please send it to me so I CAN get excited! ✌️😎👍
Haha, Erik Cortina yesterday and Gavin Toobe today... Keep going Jim!
My 70 year old mom took a cow elk at over 200 meters this year, with a 6.5 creedmoor. No tracking, animal expired essentially on the spot. I'm currently building a custom 7PRC for myself, but....uh...for 99% of everyeone does not need the latest greatest.
My two favorite RUclipsrs great video
I've gotta try a trigger at 7 ounces!
When you are here at UR!!!!
Out local Sportsmans Warehouse had gotten TWO 6.8 Westerner over the last year and a half. Ammo everywhere, no guns. I see the exact same for the 7PRC. I hope I am wrong.
I watch Jim’s channel and the sneak peak Impact shooting channel. I want Jim to review one of the rifles you built.
I would like to see more on the straight wall cartridges. Like the 350 Legend.
We need more of you
My two favorite channels
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Ya I spend 150 on tages the vet discount is great I setup on deer, beer, elk, atialotlt, and orax, but I usually get Muzzled elk and deer.
Loved the video he did on building/ going over that hnt 26 rifle its niiiiiccceee. I'd like him to do a video on what's it like going through tsa to Africa. Is it a pain. How's flying with a class 3/nfa item. Do's and don'ts?
That video may happen from one of us!
@@Ultimatereloader Sweet! I'll be looking forward to it.
We need to help normalize suppressors, as a person who suffers from Tinnitus, I only shoot suppressed now. Wish I had them when I was younger.
I like Jim's videos. I'd like to see him pick out a 223 for varminting. It can't be a Bergara since there is no Bergara HMR in 223 🙂.
Great to see you two collaborate on this video. You both are my top two favorite youtubers. Thank you for the video!
Would be so awesome to see you guy do a coyote hunt together and or to do that hunting scenario set up
Good for you jim
i think the reason pick on 6.5 creedmoor users so much is simply because its soooo common. it gets boring after a while.
I like his price comparison videos. It would be cool to see a Jetson rifle build. How compact can you make it without losing value?
The Entire rest of the world uses Metric! Tikka, Mauser, howa, Sako.
Inlike the krg bravo. Little heavier but more buget option
we need Elon to buy RUclips problem solved
Hey Gavin I know you never did Sonoran Desert to smart. What did you do.
No reloading no guns no RUclips
Been watching some content on Utreon. Similar layout as RUclips. Easier to navigate than Rumble.
Can you please talk about the cascade sb barrel specifically and your thoughts. The build and the length
Hey guys good to see you two together on RUclips. @ultimatereloader you have info on your Lapua built rifle you have hanging in the background. Thanks for your videos
The one thing I would like you both to remember is that not everyone can't afford many of the things you promote.

Think Sig needs to do a long action cross in 7PRC. Also need a 6 creed in the cross
