We share some similarities in our life story. I'm also over 50, adopted, have grown children and grew up with great parents who have both now passed. Just before xmas this year I signed on to Ancestry.com having taken their DNA test weeks before and receiving an email that stated my results were now in. Now when I signed in I was hoping I would at least find a couple cousins who were open to talking and I would continue my search from info they may be able to pass to me. When I saw the results at the very top of my matches was a lady and the words " Is your Mother" I sat there for I don't no how long just starring unsure how to feel or what to do. We now talk on FB and I've learnt a great deal about her( including that we share a sense of humour) and my family history also that I have two half siblings. It has been a great experience and I do feel like something within me has come full circle. I hope the same for you Rick and wish you the best.
Fascinating video to say the least. I got goose bumps hearing the train story. So far this sounds like the makings of a good movie. (You're a natural)...I hope you find the missing pieces to your background and make some interesting discoveries.
I just read your reply to birdfly5 and that is such wonderful news that you now have the name of your birth Mother. I hope that knowing will answer many questions that you have rallied around in your mind for many years. Looking forward to seeing your journey unfold. All that you are today is because of what you have done yourself. We are guided and we are taught by many but it is solely our choice to be who we are. Ah Rick, you dreamer. If they call. It will be to notify you that the form is okay and they will check the file to see if she placed a veto on it. If she did, you can't get her name. If she didn't, get in line and wait. The are supposedly going it by age with life threatening illnesses first. I'm 70, my form requesting the infi was sent last June. In 2001 the informed me my mom died in 1975. Still no call. I called early Aug and was told I'd get it in 2 to 4 weeks. I called 4 weeks ago and was told it was just waiting to be assigned. NOTHING. I called today and left a pleading message begging to get ot soon since my birthday is this month. I know it won't do any good. They lie to you. So, better learn to be patient and not believe what they tell you. Good luck. An adoptee impatiently waiting. Marie Farahmand
I did actually get the call yesterday and they did reveal her name to me. I don't have much to go on as her memorial page only said that she has a Son. So the search is on! Best of luck with your search. The only advice I could give is to be persistent, but kind with them. I get the feeling these agencies are overwhelmed and understaffed. But, the squeaky wheel gets the grease :)
