    For those of us who listen regularly, we may notice several allegories repeated here. For me, these are a comfort. They ask me to slow down and listen, to learn something new. Good health to all of you.

    I love the fact that the donkey story is always recited a little differently every single time 😂 Sometimes it's the tone in which the donkey whimpers, sometimes there are a few extra feelings. Sometimes he kicks the farmer, sometimes he bites him on his butt. Absolutely wonderful 😌⭐

    I come from a traditionally Buddhist country. The dhamma our monks preach is very different from the dhamma that western monks preach. They preach of magical snakes from snake kingdoms and magical mountain around which the sun and the earth revolve. I've always laughed off these sermons as delusions resulted by the watering down of Buddhism due to the influence of other religions. When they quoted the Thripittaka and substanciated these magical tales I thought they were downright lying. It was easy to come at that conclusion as there are many currupt monks in my country.
    But one day I thought enough is enough and I started reading the thripitaka! They were not lying! There are many fantastical tales in the Thripitaka. I saw it with my very own eyes. They were as illogical as the Abrahmic stories. I'm losing faith in Buddhism very fast. Please help. Any helo is welcome.

      @dy4667 4 года назад +2

      Hi there! I hear your pain! Just sharing my own experience. The way I understand this is, it is best to stick to what the original Buddha words, Dhamma is. The other stuff came much later, additions by others may very well be with good intention, with hope to make it more attractive to ordinary people who like to listen to fairy tales (who knows true or not, no way to verify the source) depending on their level of understanding, take it or leave it no pressure just find the words of wisdom, the underlying wisdom nuggets, the essence of the story line.
      For me the 4 noble truth makes sense totally, the 5 precepts guidelines, the Noble 8 fold path, Dana Seela Bhavana, Anattha, etc. the basics I understand and I know it is a practice, a way of life not a belief system waiting for someone to come and save me from the suffering and make it great again!
      It is also beneficial not to panic! Seek peace from nature, serene surroundings, temple atmosphere, listening to beautiful chanting, listening to gentle Dhamma talks, with freedom to select whatever you prefer, whatever that helps to feel better, to find peace in the uncertainty
      With Metta and Karuna to all

      @@dy4667 I think Ajahn Bramali did touch on the stories that they were added on later. Also the Buddha "warned against blind faith and encouraged the way of truthful inquiry. One should maintain an open mind and thoroughly investigates one's own experience of life". All the Buddha taught was the Dhamma. TQ DY.

    Ajahn Brahm I need your help. I was a devout Buddhist but I've always been a scientist. My rational mind automatically takes over any thought process. For years I was happy that Buddhism was very logical and scientific but then I started reading the Thripittaka and the canons contain a lot of stories that are unscientific and downright ludicrous. At one point I wanted to become a monk but since read the deega Nikaya I am rapidly losing faith in Buddhism. Could you please help me? This is causing me a lot of distress.
