I never understand the hype with the Dragon's Dogma franchise to be honest. And about Dragon Quest 8, it's rough, it is old school in mind, even for a 2000's JRPG, so I'm not surprise with your comment 😅. Still, it is a wonderfull game that a absolute love to play and finish last year. But do you a favor, don't play the 3DS version, play it on PlayStation 2. Why ? Because the soundtrack on PS2 is faaaaaar better, with orchestral instrument, compare to the lackluster midi sound 😬😬😬.
You can replace the midi to orchestra score on a modded 3DS. Install Japanese dub and uncensored outfits and more. It’s kinda hard to go back to PS2 version after experiencing all the new content (2 new party members) and QOL stuff on the 3DS version. Really baffling square was fine with porting DQ1-3 mobile versions to PS4/Switch, but they won’t even budge to port the rest of their mobile games (4-8).
