I firmly believe this is Tzuyu's era. She got more chorus lines this time not only on the title track but also the b-sides they are the catchy parts too.
A lot of the members who don't usually get a lot of parts on the title tracks for a lot do parts I their b sides. The b sides were pretty much her, Dayhun, Mina, Momo. It's like it was split up and all of the members got to shine on either A side or B. I think usually the Era is based on the title track and though she sounded really good, Nayeon was way too impressive with her dancing and her singing.
Twice's music is sometimes a bit weird. Often on the first listen I am thinking "nah, I don't really like this", but then after a couple listens the songs go on my repeat forever list.
Mehh was my first reaction. However, after listening to the song 4 or 5 more times, I really love it. I think in the future we'll look back and mark this as a milestone in Twice's evolution. Now if we can just get more lines for Mina and more rap from Momo, I'll be really happy.

She did an outstanding job vocally this release. I'm well aware she's had singing lines before, but I was pleasantly surprised not only by her vocal performance but that the company entrusted her with these lines.
To answer pd's last question in the outro - i believe this is jyp's answer to knetz' unhinged "controversies" from their past 2 comebacks - vocals. You mentioned it yourself how the simple beat highlighted their vocals more and I think that's exactly how they envisioned the track to translate, and fortunately the reception is good! Korean comments on their live stages are full of praise so I guess they succeeded. But also more than that, I feel the entire album's their next step to being a full fledged critically acclaimed group considering how good the critics/ratings were for eyes wide open - it's also their most cohesive body of work imo. Basically this i their best album and i know onces collectively agree on this too
Well i agree with you that Eyes Wide Open is still their best album tho I want to be bias to Taste of Love because I want to promote somehow and to hype it but fairly speaking Eyes Wide Open is the best 😊
TWICE members seemed to very happy pulling off this Bossa Nova, Samba, Hiphop genre. It’s a new refreshing concept. Momo said she liked it the first time she heard it from JYP.
I give JYP a lot of praise for having the courage to present this simple, happy, tropical song which is counter the trend to more bad-ass, girl crush and heavy concepts. Right now is the time we need a little happiness and celebration. The pandemic is receding and maybe we can have some live concerts this summer. Oh, and did anyone mention how BEAUTIFUL and COLORFUL this is?? Cheers to TWICE!
There are previous Kpop songs with bossa nova in it like IU's Obliviate and Elris's You and I, but I do think Twice is so far the only popular group that use it as their title. oh and i found this vid that compiled some bossa nova in kpop, for people that wanna hear more tracks with similar genre ruclips.net/video/aA_YTrJHB3A/видео.html
I'm not Korean, but as far as I know, Jeju island is the go to, when Koreans want to have a seaside getaway, since it has the most beautiful beaches and is the southest point as well, so the weather is really nice. Whenever you see beaches in a kpop video it's a safe bet to think it was filmed on Jeju haha, also Itzy's Not Shy was shot there, so you can even get desert vibes on the island too.

Bossa nova is a Brazilian rhythm, it's something that our culture likes a lot and is proud of it, it's a calmer rhythm, the vocals are also calmer in bossa nova. I didn't fall in love with this comeback, I need to be honest, but I admire them for trying a different sound.
nothing is wrong at all with edm but it's what makes up the majority of the k-pop music industry today, so to see such a refreshing, good-vibes, chill song is a breath of fresh air. it's perfectly fitting for this summer.

This is probably the TWICE title track that really fit their voices well aside from Momo (which I don't understand why they make her sing that way), and while it didn't have a really catchy part (like Shy Shy Shy or Fancy You), the whole song will just be stuck on you.
@@chrissy8830 I think that Chaeyoung is a better singer than Momo. But you also can't entirely put her in vocals as she is the main rapper. But Momo should do some rapping instead of singing and let Chaeyoung handle some of the singing part.

I think alot of companies are hesitant to release chill songs as leading tracks. But with twice because of their established fanbase, they can take the creative liberties to do something like this. if anyone can ace a chill summer bop it would be twice! because they have such a large following i feel like they can take more risks with songs like this that are less intense for their title track
Yeah, I think it does take a popular, well-established "senior" group like Twice to pull off this concept. They have greater leeway to take risks and experiment, whereas newer, less-established groups would stick to more tried-and-true genres to avoid offending people. Kudos to JYPE for willing to take risks.
it’s true to some when jeongyeon said that the title song won’t be that much of a good song when you first hear it, but it gets more addicting when you listen to it over and over again

No PD you were right, i noticed something awkward at the transition between Chaeyoung and Jihyo but i just don't know how to explain it. You just put it into word! 😂😂
Ah, I can maybe help! the set you mention at 14:05 is called a shell or bandshell. They're made with sound amplification in mind and are often built on stages for the boardwalk or near beaches. It was likely to just build on that tropical idea/concept.
14:00 I think they try to emulate Brazil, like, its a bossa nova song and a lot of buildings in this scene at the background looks like a colonial portuguese building that we have here in Brazil, in several places, not only in Rio.

They are after all Korea's National Girl Group and Asia's #1 Girl Group, soon to be the Worlds' #1 Girl Group. TWICE fighting!!!!
The thing is with Twice....they don’t need to prove themselves anymore. They have plastered their name already they are the top girl group in kpop now, and pretty cool they released this kind of genre like i think theyre the first one to use this kind of genre...they still slay it.
@@euigeonqram8122 Exactly! I'm so proud of them because imagine giving up on all that Twice has given up, and how scary it must've been for them to turn their whole overall vibe around.. Their imppact in the industry is still intact after so many years, even if people try to deny it. People have been begging for them to release another version of their biggest hits, but they're not going back, because they've grown so much already. They've sacrificed so much and look at how they're turning the world upside down! They're incredible. I'm so proud to be their fan.
@@ritodecorazonesangrando The momentum of Twice’s success is still going on theyve been growing and growing and growing. They are just getting started, them slowly promoting in the west is a step up already and it shows the impact already like have you seen the accomplishments of this era? It just kept improving in the west slowly but surely. In a way they couldve started promoting in the west years ago but they didnt. I just love how TWICE doesn’t cater west taste. They’re just being themselves. TWICE will be still be TWICE
NAYEON OWN THAT HIP MOVE. PERIOD
EXACTLY, SHES TRYING TO KILL US
she's just doing that for fun and then here we are getting a heart attack ❤️
@@loonagakure9845 She also slayed that hip movement in ICSM.
Yesss
I think Sana is giving her some competition.
jihyo's "rose freckles" felt like that usual red-ish tone people get when they're drinking so maybe that's what they were going for
oohh that’s so smart
Agree, I think they were going for the rosy cheeks look given the rose petals on her cheeks.
I firmly believe this is Tzuyu's era. She got more chorus lines this time not only on the title track but also the b-sides they are the catchy parts too.
she has looked so confident on the comeback stages as well. so happy for our maknae.
A lot of the members who don't usually get a lot of parts on the title tracks for a lot do parts I their b sides. The b sides were pretty much her, Dayhun, Mina, Momo. It's like it was split up and all of the members got to shine on either A side or B. I think usually the Era is based on the title track and though she sounded really good, Nayeon was way too impressive with her dancing and her singing.
for me it was tzuyu and jihyo era. they absolutely shined!!
Twice's music is sometimes a bit weird. Often on the first listen I am thinking "nah, I don't really like this", but then after a couple listens the songs go on my repeat forever list.
I Can't Stop Me was definitely like that for me!
Yeah Twice are different from others kpop idol they are Queen
Mehh was my first reaction. However, after listening to the song 4 or 5 more times, I really love it. I think in the future we'll look back and mark this as a milestone in Twice's evolution. Now if we can just get more lines for Mina and more rap from Momo, I'll be really happy.
@@birchlawpa For me its more of the dance/video cuts for first few parts. It seemed at least as fast paced as their older videos, not suiting the vibe of the song. After a few more viewings, i got used to it but still feel like they could relax a bit more with the cuts (Probably harder to do because they have to ensure enough airtime for all the members)
Fancy make me feel like that before.. i just think when the first time hearing it " this is really not my taste of song" and now i even dancing whenever i hear that song
as a fan, just proud of their evolution and growth as artists...it's a very nice change from heavy edm kpop trend that seems at the end of it's life span...
Has there been a heavy EDM trend recently? Seems like the most recent one was 80's inspired.
@@ad226200 True. Either way, I love edm so I hope the edm trend doesn't end🤤
Recently Everglow had a song called First which is edm, Mafia in the Morning
@@alessaxreacts9935 Those are both rap/trap, no? EDM is like Bon Bon Chocolat/Adios/Dun Dun or More & More.
But there was EDM in First as it incorporated both trap beats and edm.
PD: Where's Chaeyoung?
*watches for a second time*
PD: Oh there's Chaeyoung!
Love twice but tired of their format distribution. U know dahyun and chaeyoung gonna be in rap, An you know Nayeon and Jihyos gonna be chorus.
@@simpayshenaides Well most of the time in every group, rappers rap and main/lead vocalists sing the chorus

Very true lol
To be fair the first time they showed Chaeyoung was so abrupt probably not even 10 seconds and it was kinda distracting cause it’s with that weird transition he was talking about.
Basically this i their best album and i know onces collectively agree on this too
Im so glad knetz are finally praising them again
this album is dripping gold
Well i agree with you that Eyes Wide Open is still their best album tho I want to be bias to Taste of Love because I want to promote somehow and to hype it but fairly speaking Eyes Wide Open is the best 😊
It's the album you have to have if you are a Once in my opinion
It's a shame their vocals are just mediocre though, no offence.
This song is so much Brazil! I am brazillian, it really sound like Samba, Bossa Nova....
dahyun said that it's kinda Bossa Nova
Nayeon literally said that this song has Bossa Nova style
I think they said the mv was shot in Jeju island, looks gorgeous!
They did
I think they rent whole resort for this.
@@readyplayerone1583 they did
TWICE members seemed to very happy pulling off this Bossa Nova, Samba, Hiphop genre.
Cheers to TWICE!
this is bossa nova, yet KPOP. only TWICE can pull that off. TWICE doesn't follow the trend, they are the trend
Preach it
There are previous Kpop songs with bossa nova in it like IU's Obliviate and Elris's You and I, but I do think Twice is so far the only popular group that use it as their title.
oh and i found this vid that compiled some bossa nova in kpop, for people that wanna hear more tracks with similar genre

The fact that PD recognize Jeju island just from looking at its sea😲😲
I'm not Korean, but as far as I know, Jeju island is the go to, when Koreans want to have a seaside getaway, since it has the most beautiful beaches and is the southest point as well, so the weather is really nice. Whenever you see beaches in a kpop video it's a safe bet to think it was filmed on Jeju haha, also Itzy's Not Shy was shot there, so you can even get desert vibes on the island too.
@@weronika01212 but it's still shocked me tho😂😂

I love how it sounds like actual caribean music, not "not latin inspired" or "latin flavor". Personally i love how the sounds go full for the vibe instead of just sprinkling on top and they all look stuning on these dresses, way better than their previous summer releases
Because the genre is bossa nova
Im from the carribean sound more latin inspired the bass line main sound bossa nova sound feom Brazil south american country

This song has a heavy influence of brazilian music genders such as bossa nova and samba, kinda like "girl from ipanema" vibe which feels so fresh and i absolutely love it!!
I enjoyed this comeback as it was nice break from the loud upbeat and anthems songs as it was refreshing to watch. The girls have a mature side and the mv was beautiful and aesthetically pleasing as it fit the summer vibe
JYP DID IT AGAIN. THIS SONG IS MY FAVOURITE EVEN THOUGH IT'S MINIMAL. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU HATE HIM, HE KNOWS HIW TO WRITE GOOD SONGS FOR TWICE.
signal, what is love?, feel special, and this. all VERY different songs but are straight up masterpieces. the man simply doesn't miss
I never really noticed Tzuyu’s voice until Cry for Me. I think it’s because she has a deeper voice and they usually don’t let Twice sing in a lower key. So hearing her beautiful deep voice now is so refreshing.
the first time i listened to it, it was refreshing and nice but that was all, i just thought it was good but nothing special. but by the second and third listens i was completely obsessed. it's such a new way to make a summer song, and honestly i love it so much
‘addictive’ is the word i’d use to describe this song / just wanna listen to it more and more again
I really like that this song is a bit more chill in a way? Usually their title tracks get me really pumped but alcohol free makes me feel more relaxed
The way PD called MORE&MORE just *MORE* lmao
TWICE IS THE STANDARD that's it period
I really appreciate the MV of this one. It's the first Twice MV in a while without awkward CGI.
I love this comeback!! Also the whole album have a bunch of bops!!!
Also tzuyu did an amazing job!
i saw a good amount of people who didn’t vibe with this song bc the chorus sounded to “empty” or that something was missing. i personally think it was good. it’s just a chill smooth song to relax to & obviously a big summer song to vibe to!
Lol people are so used to high intensity summer k-pop songs that a chill song feels empty to them
yes!! I really like this song.
I like it, but I still think musically it's kind of empty.
Agree I think you have to be in the right mood for it. At first I didn’t like it now I love it! But if I listen to it wanting a high energy song you’ll be disappointed. I can’t wait to play this song when I’m chilling outside watching the sunset or something.

the mini album is so great, they took a whole new direction in terms of everything really! i love the bossa nova sound they went for and also in terms of the bsides too, they are so wonderful! written by the members as well, dahyuns lyricism is so genius to me! also this album, majority of it is sort of in english along with a full english version of cry for me, so i'm super proud of their efforts there. twice never fails to amaze me! now they get to show this different side of them to the world ^^

i highly recommend this whole mini album for you to listen to. it has no skip (LIKE LEGIT, IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY SKIPS) and even the lyrics of cry for me english version are good!
i haven't check it, i doubt it i'm afraid usually i'm not into summer songs
@@stefanoraz27 i personally didn't get that much summer vibe from the bsides except for one which is called first time but rather for most of the tracks, it brought me michael jackson's vibes especially that every songs were bass heavy. there's two songs though that reminded me of disco or retro music but that's just me! the thing that stuck out to me the most in the tracks is definitely the bass, i may be wrong but i think they used a lot of bass guitar! it's very funky and i personally like it ^^

Bossa nova is a Brazilian rhythm, it's something that our culture likes a lot and is proud of it, it's a calmer rhythm, the vocals are also calmer in bossa nova. I didn't fall in love with this comeback, I need to be honest, but I admire them for trying a different sound.
Yas! Queens need to come to Brazil ❤❤

nothing is wrong at all with edm but it's what makes up the majority of the k-pop music industry today, so to see such a refreshing, good-vibes, chill song is a breath of fresh air. it's perfectly fitting for this summer.
PD: "Tzuyu's line is my favorite part of the chorus. I love (Tzuyu's) line. I LOOOVE the vocal melody!"

I love alcohol free at first listen but at the second time I'm literally addicted! It's bossa nova inspired from Brazil their setup for 1st chorus
I really just love how simple the music is. The vocals are insane this era! Tzuyu has been amazing!
10/10. I like the chill vibes. It's easy on my ears and feel light in this summer. Sana's champagne part is my fav and really addictive
The ambiguous architecture you were talking about at 14:30 is the same set they used for I Can't Stop Me. They renovated the train station. That's why it looked odd with the "Rio" houses in the backdrop.
I think alot of companies are hesitant to release chill songs as leading tracks. But with twice because of their established fanbase, they can take the creative liberties to do something like this. Some people said this was underwhelming, but I think it's refreshing. It's easy to listen to and it just suits summer so well.

FYI rumour has it that Fromis_9’s We Go was one of their title track options for this comeback, the song was produced by Lee woomin(collapsedone) who’s a JYP in-house producer also the co-producer of What is Love. We Go would also make an amazing title track for TWICE but Alcohol Free is much more refreshing in terms of delivery.
Fromis’ We Go and twice’s AF were set well for each group imo
Twice needed a step away from the harder-hitting title tracks, where fromis def benefitted from we go’s concept and sound following up feel good
This is my favorite twice comeback. The sound, vocal, the instrumental are on point. I love this song, its so relaxing and chilling. This is the song that you can repeat and repeat without getting tired of it. Its so pleasant in ears. ♥️

I love that the choreo has references to shaking drinks to make them.
if anyone can ace a chill summer bop it would be twice! because they have such a large following i feel like they can take more risks with songs like this that are less intense for their title track

I agree with you a hundred percent. I love this sound so much. Although at first I was underwhelmed because I was expecting a really explosive chorus cause that was Twice's signature. But this song flows better than their past title tracks.

the entire album has this calmer more sultry vibe and the vocals and adlibs just sound SOOO GOOOD !! you defff need to react to the ep
J.Y. produced, composed, and taught each one of the parts to the members, and since he made the song i’m guessing it was planned from the start!
When I first heard this song, I thought it was fine. But now I absolutely love it. It’s just so calming and relaxing. I love how chill it is.
“I’m high, not because I smoked anything, but because this video is that good” that’s a quote we need to keep around
