  • Hey guys, here's a quick video on how to change the automatic transmission fluid in the 1st generation Acura TSX. There's also a comparison of of the Toyota (WS) and Honda transmission fluid (DW-1) which look very similar.

    Honda DW-1 is synthetic; Toyota WS is dino. Aisin or Idemitsu makes the fluid, I believe. The Idemitsu vehicle specific fluids are top notch. I have used the Honda stuff in our 2006 TSX; it pulls better than DW-1. I an gonna use their fluid in our 2013 GS350 F Sport soon. Thanks for the video.

  • @MrRogerslarry56

    You have an extra quart left because you didn't change the entire fluid. The entire process needs to be done at least twice for a 90% fluid change, especially if your TSX has more than 150k. It should drain about 3 Quarts each time leaving about 2-3 quarts behind the Clutch packs. You also need to get in a drive at a steady highway speed in between repeating the steps in order for the Lock-up to engage.

    It's a good idea to change the transmission fluid before it changes color like that. It no longer has the same lubricating/protection properties by that point. You have residual in the torque converter so you'll have to repeat the process after driving it a bit. I usually change mine ever 40k which might be overkill but its a 15 year old car now and feels like new. The TSX is one of the best cars (overall) ever built IMO.

    • @phxrsx
      @phxrsx 4 года назад

      How would you repeat that? Drain the good oil you just put in?

    • @ZDriver1996
      @ZDriver1996 4 года назад

      @@phxrsx hey Adrian. safest way for all cars is just to drive it around for 30 minutes, get it up to speed like a state road or highway... that way what is trapped in the torque converter is cycled into the good fluid.. then repeat the drain / fill process.. If your fluid is black or really dark I would do this. If you put a drop of the used ATF onto a white paper and see its still kind of red/burgundy then I would just change the ATF once... I would probably not repeat the process to get the fluid out of the torque converter.

    Just because transmission fluid has red dye in it does NOT make them all the same... That's like saying Ford's type F transmission fluid is the same as Dextron which they are not. They each have their own special formulation & additive packages.
    I'm almost willing to bet you'd blow out the transmission in just a couple thousand miles using "most" non-oem fluids, it's not smart when you can easily get the oem Honda fluid for $10 or less per quart. I just paid $6.14 w/ my employee discount & don't forget to do the inline transmission filter while you're at it...
