This was a very informative video, thank you! It looks just annoying enough that I may have my independent shop take care of this but he's quoting me $350 for it. It's kind of annoying you need so many specific tools and workarounds to do this but I guess there's no way around this with how complex our cars are nowadays and I guess it's not in Acura's best financial interests to make their vehicles very easy to repair and maintain at home...
I can appreciate that sometimes it makes sense to let a shop do the work. I thought this was a pretty easy job overall. Getting my funnel down to the hole was the tricky part. If I had just attached a piece of hose pipe to a regular funnel, that would have worked easier.
i agree. You can't get a service manual. You have to go the website and purchase acces to the manual. They can't make it too hard because their techs must perform tasks on customer cars. I have '16 RLX and it feels like the manufacturer lwants you to bring the car in form all service. I LoVE my car but....
Have you had any issues, I have an ILX 2018 currently I initially wanted a TLX but couldn’t find at time of search. I’ve spotted. 16 TLX V6, but a bit concerned with zf9 transmission
I've only owned the car for a couple of months. It was well cared for by the original owner. There are no issues for me yet. They didn't have any issues either.
@kychristell1779That car doesn’t use a ZF 9AT…. It uses Acura’s infamous in-house 8DCT (one of the most bombproof automatic TC-based, dual clutch transmissions). The RLX is the only other Acura (Honda Legend in Japan and other countries) that utilizes Acura’s 8DCT. The older Acura ILX, got the infamous 7DCT after 2016, and is still trekking on all of their later ILX models today’
@HammerofGod777 Correct, the car does have an oil heater. Rock Auto does show two types of filter for the car. One is the typical screen that isnt replaced and the other is a cylinder/paper type that would be typical in an oil heater/cooler, but no mention in The Chilton online manual about replacing filters for a transmission service.
Sorry that I confused you. A quart of fluid is 32 oz. I only needed 10 oz from that quart, so taking 10 oz off the top of the quart left me with 22 oz. That is why I marked the 22oz level. It was so I knew I had poured 10 oz out.👍
@@timechasers3083 My understanding is that there isn't a traditional filter to replace. Drain and fill of the fluid is the only maintenance for the transmission.
I have a 2017 acura tlx (automatic) and i noticed a slight push/jerk during downshift at low speeds occasionally, not all the time... I was thinking of getting the transmission fluid drained and filled? I was told a possible update of the transmission might be needed? Suggestions?
@SoFreshJess My opinion is that you are very wise to get your fluid changed first. Great idea. I've had your experience in a Honda Pilot, and a fluid change fixed it. A side from that, regular maintenance is beneficial and always the best place to begin when having an issue since it should be done anyway. 👍
@samherrera9190 On your vehicle, the fill hole is not on top of the transmission like mine. Your fill hole is on the side of the transmission near the axle shaft, not far from the drain plug.
@noobie_jay6246 The type of transmission is the most important thing. I'm not sure what transmission was offered in the V6. There are two transmission types for these cars. The regular automatic and the dual clutch automatic. Regular automatic needs Type 3 fluid, the dual clutch needs Type 2 fluid. Otherwise, the procedure in the manual to drain and fill transmission fluid is basically the same.
No the zf9 has different procedures!!! You necessary have to fo complete oil change!!! Ever the torque converter has to flush! 1. Drain atf 2. Raise car put it in sports mode! 3. SLOWLY TAKE THE CAR TO 4th gear! (DO NOT GO TO 5 th gear PLEASE) 4. Let the car run on 4th gear low rpm. 4th gear is when DCT ENGAGES TO 5th thats why dont go to 5th gear! This should flush all the atf’ even from your torque converter. 6. Fill it up to recommended atf! Use only acura atf type 2’
@douglaswilliams1792 You are correct, I should have just gotten a hose to connect to my funnel. I actually tried to do that, but I didn't have the right type of hose that would fit and stay attached to my funnel. You are right, though. I made this a little harder on myself than needed. Although, I still needed room to remove and install the fill plug.
Great, simple to follow video without all the theatrics.

Nice garage!!!!
Does it really require a transmission flush or just drain and add the new one
Just drain and add new fluid.
Really good teaching. 🎉

What about replacing the filters? Any video on this?
@@HammerofGod777 A transmission service is a fluid drain and fill on this vehicle.
@@jacks_DIY98 You may want to check the manual because I saw in your video an oil heater near the oil level plug.

Hi Jack the spec says 4.3 qtz why did you use 22 ounces for your .3 QTZ. 3 QTZ is 10 ounces got little confuse.

Hello How many liters of oil does it take?

At what point, if at all, do you recommend the transmission filter be replaced? I can’t find any videos online of it being replaced!

The Acura TLX owners' manual says it should be changed every 30,000 - 50,000 miles, depending on how severe your use is.

Any idea where i can find the fill plug on a 6 cylinder 2017 tlx. The layout underneath the hood is different, can't find the fill plug yet.
