the devs putting a lot of effort in to sandbox settings is something i appreciate SO MUCH. you can really customize basically everything, making it as hard or as easy as you want. it always bugs me when devs/gamers say stuff like "ugh it's supposed to be a hard game! why do you want settings to make it easier? JUST PLAY SOMETHING ELSE GEEZ!". i see this sentiment online a lot with games seen as "hard" and it's the worst. give the player the options to make it incredibly easy or completely impossible. project zomboid devs prove yet again to be among the best in the entire industry.
It's definitely always nice to have options!
I agree to some extent but when it comes to games like elden ring i disagree since the entire purpose of that type of game is to be difficult
@koros4098 you can't make custom games with elden ring so it's not really a fair comparison

@koros4098 I feel that but that's what makes zomboid awesome IMO is you get to choose how you wanna play and you have so much freedom it can be tailored in sooo many ways
I remember hearing that when NPCs get introduced, the events leading up to the Louisville refuge camp will play out. This fence breaking feature with hordes definitely could play into this fence breach into the refuge camp.
This would be actually cool. But I can't recall having seen that coming from any official source, but on multiple wishlists.
But I would gladly let myself get proved wrong.
@@TitanKaempfer I mean sooner or later they'll either have to implement it or change the lore, as right now you can go towards Louisville before the exclusion zone canonically expands and falls
Those suvivor radio broadcast u can hear in random when you tune the radios they will be more valuable information now of where those NPC are when it releases.
How bout people spawning in LV :(
With the fence being pulled down and such it really highlights how we sorta need more base defense options.
Not talking 20mm cannons or anything even, just like....spiked board on windows so when the dead hit it they have a chance to brain themselves.
Pitfall traps with spikes that can kill zeds and players.
Log traps where a door is bashed down or opened that slams into whoever or whatever came through.
Just ideas.
spike trap pits could also have a system where they get filled up after 3-4 zombies so you need to do upkeep on them.
I’d love to see a skyscraper survival challenge. You spawn on the top of the building and you have to make your way down to the lobby to escape.
Or the opposite, you're working your way to the top to get to a heli-pad for the final evac chopper.
@@Omni0404 both work either way. To work your way down would take a slow, methodical process where you gather supplies in different rooms strategically trying to reach the bottom or going in guns blazing to reach the chopper on the top. Too separate challenges.
Top of a building with a boosted zombie pop would be neat.
@@Gamer-pk9upOr I just gather over 31 sheet ropes and get lucky with nails and a hammer from some maintenance closet. Actually curious if a long enough sheet rope could be made.
@@hiddendesire3076 kinda defeats the purpose of the challenge unless the challenge comes from finding enough sheets. Maybe with sprinters.
We need magazine padding. Like taping whole magazines to your arms/legs for a cheap single use bite proofing.
Maybe stick a cutting board or book under your shirt too for a lightweight hobo BPV.
Give it a fail rate to count for gaps.
It would be perfect, as they are making us specialise our characters. That way everyone has cheap defence, that is not overpowered.
Edit: Just found out someone made a mod a few weeks ago like this.
fail rate would be annoying, "but I'm armored! what more can I do?!" just seems unfair.
I love the idea of using duct tape and magazines though!!
@@cybersteel8The fail rate would be small, but your clothes would still protect you.
A balanced way to replace gaps/fail rate could be they could add elbows and knees as a damageable part, plus, way you can have knee/elbow guards for skating.
Hell, you could even stick spikes on them, so you deal damage during that pushback animation when a zombie grabs you.

I would love it if mannequins got an update where you can store outfits. Maybe right click > equip outfit
and it swapped out your current clothes.

I wish armor is divided into light, medium and heavy categories with levels in each category. Plate armor has its perks, but wearing so much heavy metal is also a good way of slowing yourself down for any would be cannibals. Treated leather is light and good enough for protecting against a bite, but far less durable. Heavy armor is really meant to protect its user against other humans who are capable of handling more effective weapons.

Not sure if spiked armor is such a good idea. You're not going to hurt a zombie much with a nail, but it seems a pretty good way to get some graber stuck to you :D
What about the intimidation effect? Bro those zombies would take one look at you and then run the other way.

I can see zombies getting hurt a little, when they do attack you (and your character plays the push back animation) or perhaps they can come in handy in PVP.

When I first saw the grass comparison (in their first example), I didn't like it. It seemed too highly detailed but honestly the 2nd example, where it's implemented into the world looks sooo good. Man, every new blogpost/video gets me more and more excited for B42. Can't wait to see the final product :D

Look, you can say anything about the devs taking forever, BUT, do you EVER see devs actually getting help from their modding community? This already makes them better than almost all AAA company's and even that one AAAA company. Good video, Great Devs, Amazing modders!
It's actually absurd. So many of the mods I use are just being integrated into vanilla. It's wild.
@@no-repliesits great, i dont even recognize vanilla because i have so mny natural feeling quality of life mods
@@no-replies a lot of them are being integrated, but also a lot better. The underground mods I see don't have the additional ambience. The armor exists and looks cool in a bunch of mods but the way they work seems odd and any with like spikes are just for design, not actual in game usage/consequence like they show. That's what I really like is they definitely do view the mods, but ensure that they integrate them with a higher level of detail/depth.

Some properly brilliant things coming out of this dev blog! That ambient sound upgrade alone is mint, so many new and exciting opportunities for unintended jump scares from non-lethal sources is going to hilarious fun! I like the look of that new armour system too, the mix of pre-existing and crafted looks good too, definitely some strong Mad Max and Fallout vibes from some of the crafted gear. I love that it even does damage too for players, I hope there's a similar effect on the zomboids too (one tries to bite you from behind and accidentally spike's itself instead), definitely gives us cause to pay more attention to them and also to visit sporting goods stores too!
It's been a long time coming but I really thing Build 42 is going to bring so much new life to the game it's going to be well worth the wait! As always thanks again for all your time and effort keeping us informed Mr Duck!

They should really add hearing loss to the game. Like if you shoot a gun without a silencer or hearing protection--especially indoors--you'd experience temporary reduced hearing...Do that too many times and you'll start to go deaf. I feel that plays into the survival theme of the game really well considering just how important maintaining your hearing is in survival situations involving firearms in the real world.

Looks amazing! Underground and Skyscrapers take my anxiety to a new level. (They gotta add the 'body dump out window' to base game)
I do think it would be dope to have like a random encounter with museum items. I think knight armor (or crafted metal armor) shouldn't be top tier but come with flavored drawbacks (50 lbs. and cumbersome, loud, limited vison, and hard to maintain.) Make it frustrating to use while doing daily work, but still an option to equip in high populated, cramp spaces.
I just happy we're getting wizard hats. I've been trying to find a mod that adds them for months

Jeez I can't imagine 32 levels BELOW, that sounds tough. Wish they would talk about end game enhancements more, this is all cool and all but doesn't really revolutionize a standard play loop, just give us 1 NPC on the Ham radio that we can talk to to get some sort of quests, i know NPCs will be added eventually, that could be an interesting start
It could make crafting more important. Bring him 5 timed explosives and get a machete and 10 cans of beans

they're too busy overhauling things that don't need it, like grass, etc.

The new crafting system is a major component of NPCs. It will allow for gameplay to continue after every house is looted (by NPCs) as well as base fortification/modification, which NPCs will also use. When you have to fight for resources from other survivors you will be forced to engage with the new crafting system, such as hunting/smelting etc.. Frankly, without this update NPCs wouldn't make sense
regarding the fact that there is nothing to do in the end game, it would be ideal if the sandbox added the possibility that every X days hordes attack your base (like in 7 days to die) and each horde is larger and more dangerous than the previous one (more running zombies, strong, etc.)
I know that there are similar mods, but they are not perfect
Underground finally coming, cannot wait. One of the features I was excited for over a decade ago. The maps and buildings we will see are going to be insane. Just can't wait. The fence feature is super cool too.

Have they said anything about the building? I mean, like actually building. I extended my house a bit and even tho it has roof and plastered walls and all that. It still raining inside and that part is like its outside (in temperature)
funny how I just assumed that all the things mentioned around 9:00 (hit chances of ranged weapons) were already implemented.
I like how the basement sounds. Sound plays such an important part in a game like this.

ambient sounds are fantastic, but to be effective they must be used very rarely, if you hear noises continuously the atmosphere is easily broken, especially the sounds of objects falling or things like that
i like the detail that the spikes on the armor will damage you if you push the zombie, it reminds me of when Rick Grimes had to fight the walker in the trash heaps that had spikes.
I think the tie/wheel armor is the best!
what concerns me is what the state of the mod “Advanced Trajectory” will be like when b42 releases, I can’t play without that mod and I believe many others can’t either and judging by the gun changes it may break the mod.
I can't play without 20 mods at this point lol I already download all of them and made local mods using a pirated version of the game for when it updates until every mod is fixed I can still play the earlier version and with all mods, sure they could keep the old version like they still do, but half those mods can be updated and the other don't so I'll never have my perfect game concoction again 😂
Besides pirating a game I own just to keep using mods it's hilarious

Remember when you could adjust every single sound in the game with a 0-100% slider? I do miss that
man those sounds... its gonna be so cool. cant wait. oh wait...been waiting 2 years lol. but thats okay. :D

i feel like there should be like highway/road maps as well just to highlight portions of the map's roads rather than specific locations, so you can have an easier time navigating
Sound does so much. I forget there isnt much atm
One thing I'd love to see added to firearm mechanics is choosing where to aim. Like, with higher levels instead of just shooting you can choice before hand where to aim at, head shots while doing more damage would have a much smaller hit chance, leg shots would slow enemies down, maybe make them crawlers with a lower hit chance, body shots having the best hit chance but not bonus damage etc. etc. Also it'd be nice to see at point blank range the hit chance being almost 100% no matter how drunk, tired, panicked, or unskilled you are. One thing that is super annoying about zomboid is when the barrel of the gun is touching a zombie and you're missing all the shots since you're level 0 aiming and moving, which just seems kinda dumb. As long as you know how to pull the trigger and which end of the gun the bullet comes out of you should be able to hit a target that close. Also other ways to rise the skill, through books or maybe targets you build would be nice to see, so you don't have as much risk to your life trying to get some XP in the skill. Sorry for the long comment lol! I've spent a lotta time thinking about this
For the new skyscraper, will they change how sound travels? I remember hearing sound travel is incredibly unforgiving vertically
wait Werlias is on PZ team? holy that's a news worthy congrats both of them, also the sound radius reduced when indoors is big.
I'm not sure if he's on the team or has just been brought in to do some work with them, but either way, it's a great thing for both of them :D
Can you possibly talk about the "Small Town First Responders" mod? its pretty underrated since its giving some polish to the police and park ranger occupation in terms of look and variety with uniforms, as well as vehicles too!

42 is looking to be a monstrous suite of improvements and I'm pretty excited. After the MP patch came out many moons ago I jumped back in to see how it changed and 42 suggests that I'll be doing the same again.
I bought it like 14 years ago and it still keeps on giving!

5:49 I love the ambient sounds in the bunker. It reminds me so much of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. lab missions and how creepy it can be. Especially in the Lost Alpha mod. This is going to be a great update and truly change this game for the better. This game engine upgrade is so on point...next goal might be NPCs...who knows?
10:55 Im really hoping that they eventually add a museum that will actually add medieval armour and weapons.
These obviously would not be top tier gear but it would be pretty good with only a couple minor drawbacks like weight and temperature debuffs (stamina, morale, comfort, etc.).
Oh, Never mind. They’ve explicitly said they would not so this. That sucks but oh well, what can you do?
I think what would severely help this game is
1. Add air craft so you can travel to new countries or even states. In the lore of the game, they talk about the world being infected. How cool would it be to have say an england version of the map? Do they have custom maps? I only started playing this 4 days ago.
2. Add an end game event that also adds to the lore.

I just love the new UI of vending machine.
i really like the idea of new grass but you can see in the screenshot, that with the new grass, its more clear, that the world was build with tiles. with the old grass its more hidden.
I hope they add something that lets you see upstairs even a little as you're moving up the stairs so you don't blindly walk into a horde waiting at the top of the staircase since it's something your character can obviously see. I don't blame them for not having done this already mind you, but it is something I hope they will do in the future. I'll play regardless though because the game is fun af.
I never really had a problem with the old grass. It gave it that sims 1 look. The new grass looks fantastic but I cant help but feel like something was lost.

The best way to flesh out the game (and make it immersive) I found id to start with the "Initial outbreak".
The theme I made up was the check point was overrun and zombies are pouring out of Louisville.
The military would not let people drive their cars as traffic congestion can be fatal (that is why you have many cars available) so the military evacuated most heathy people.
The player for some reason stayed.
SO I set the max population of 2-3 and stretched out the time it takes for max pop.
I love it and roleplay things in my mind. Hope someone ends up liking it too!
I would like to see more Riot Helmets. Those things are cool drip! I think it would be cool if NPCs could protect your base when you are offline in Multiplayer.

Just like everything else; i hope the option to allow zombies to spawn in the same tower all at once is a choice. Because a nightmare scenario of walking/driving past a couple towers when zombie pour out of windows from multiple stories is PRIMO nightmare fuel.

Might have that a bit confused. Negative effects, like Panic, would have a larger effect at longer ranges than they would at close ranges. Panic itself isn't increased, but your chance to hit would be lowered at further ranges because of Panic. Does that make sense?

Bro if they were to bring the campaign back with some cutscenes now that they have the new visual creators on the team that would be really cool. Not to say I don’t like the sandbox survival, the game really shines there and it will never get old at least for me, but seeing some in game cutscenes with a story mode to flesh out timeline and give a slightly different play experience would be very cool. Obviously not a possibly for quite a while but just speculation about that’s possible with this.
