    I work in a what was once known as a full service station. In addition to the three islands for gasoline we also had a five bay garage. I worked as a light duty mechanic mostly doing R&R work. Plus mounting and balancing tires. I worked there for about 3 years. Long enough to conclude I did not want to turn wrenches for a living. Busted knuckles. Cracked & dry skin. Dark fingernails were all part of that job. Not to mention the hazardous materials constantly being handled. Of course this was prior to the gloves most mechanics use now. I have much respect for tthe HONEST men & women who do a good job serving and helping keep our cars on the road.

      Thank you for sharing this part of your life and work experience! When I was in high school I was deciding between college for PT or something automotive related. RUclips car reviews weren’t a common thing to do yet and I never imagined I would do this up until the day I started a channel. But to be a real mechanic I knew would be a very physically tough and demanding career. And to be a tuner I imagined I’d be worried about engines blowing up lol.
      Everything I get the chance to witness or be a part of real garage work I’m reminded of how incredible the mechanics are and the effects of the work that they take home with them. I’ve done therapy with a number of former mechanics. 😬

    On my Subaru I have the Climate 2, that you mentioned. I bought those to replace my original tires that were 7 years old. I think they actually improved the ride and handling over the OEM ones, but the fuel economy definitely suffered dropping about 3 mpg on the highway. While road noise dropped, the tires themselves give off a constant hum. In the rain, through deep puddles they miraculously shed water and hydroplaning is virtually nonexistent. The tires have a more rounded contact patch with the road than a traditional tire so it will be interesting to see how they wear. On your car I think you’ll be pleased with the new tires that you bought, for I had nothing but trouble with the OEM tires that Toyota provides with multiple punctures and a blow out despite using the correct pressures.

      Thank you for sharing this!! I thought the CC2 was more of a very good all season/weather tire and wouldn’t have anticipated you to drop 3mpg. 😬 it sounds like any quality tire is probably going to drop MPG over factory all seasons. Best of luck with yours! I know I’m now much more excited or less nervous to go through some snow haha.

      When I get my new Rav I’ve been thinking about the CC2. But in Canada my 2022 came with pretty good Michelins all seasons that have M&S designation.
      Surprised to hear of the hit to MPG. We generally get mild winters here in the pacific NW so unless going to the mountains, don’t need a beefy winter tire.

    The Falken Wildpeak Trails are awesome as well

      Thanks for the recommendations! A Wildpeak was my third choice because I’ve heard so many good things about them. A Geolander vs. Wildpeak forum I was reading seemed to have more owners favor the Geolander, and I had a good personal experience with them. Also they’re a bit less expensive than the Falkens. That’s at least my reasoning for going that route! 🤪

    hey AA just to let you know Toyotas fix for the cable issue was to remove half of that cover and install a cover beneath the connection area where there never was a cover before so it looks like your RAV4 has the mods to address the cable gate.

      Oh that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing this!! I’ll go watch a video on the earlier generation but I assumed it look like about the same orange plastic covering from what I had watched before even deciding to buy the car. 🤷‍♂️😅

    Swapped out yokohama avid stock tires on my outback after one year for Michelin CC2’s. Increases drivers confidence 10x. Not all A/T tires offer a great benefit but if your happy then I suppose that’s all that matters. BFG KO’s (the originals) we’re a horrible upgrade for my ‘04 4runner Dunlop grandtreks. Toyotas oem tire selection always has me confused

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  День назад

      That’s awesome, I’m glad you could feel the CC2 difference! I’ve also heard that, and other bad things about Ko2’s (heavy, wear down fast, poor on road manners, etc) lol. These Geolanders are not the best winter tire, but way better than what the Toyota came with. And a lot of the decision for them is that they just make me happy, for whatever reason I really like them. Having driven a few hundred thousand miles and I’ve never had a tire go flat, blow out, or anything else. So I like to play it safe and go with what I have my own personal or biased confidence in. 🤪

    Very interesting video AA showing mounting of Yokohama Geolanders on you Rav 4. I found it fascinating to learn what goes into installing the new tires. How come the Forester comes standard with Yokohama Geolanders and not the Rav 4?? Regards from the Midwest, this weekend under a ferocious concoction of heavy snow, ice and blizzard conditions. Regards!

      Thanks for watching again! It was cool to get to experience this and I’m glad I could share it with you and everyone else. The Forester Wilderness comes with them, but a lot of Toyotas come with light/cheap tires. The more I’ve been driving this week the more I realize the MPG hit that’s happened since adding more legit tires lol.

      Haha, you’re right! I love how these look on little CUVs. I actually saw a lifted first gen Prius one time at a gas station that had white letter Geolanders on. 🤪

    Recently helped my son research tire replacements for ‘05 RAV4. Talked him into the Falken Aklimate (look of an all-season in an all-weather 3 peak mt. snowflake). Wife’s ‘22 Outback will be due for tires next, maybe this fall, and my ‘24 Crosstrek in a couple of years. I believe the Cross Climate 2 can be found at Costco. Can TF Subaru order any tire, or mount a 3rd party tire (say Tire Rack) or OEM only?

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  2 дня назад

      Thanks for sharing this!! That sounds like a really good tire for your son’s RAV4. I actually stopped by a Costco tire center about a month ago and asked about both tires. They couldn’t do the Geolanders but could do the CC2 if they ordered them in. But the individual I talked to about the CC2s seemed a bit confused or maybe uninterested in ordering in a specific set (I’m not sure but it was kind of a strange interaction), so I left it at just a conversation and decided to go with the Yokohama’s.
      I’m sure the dealer probably would install third Party tires but I’m not how much they would charge for the labor.

    Thanks for the video. Question, are you using the Yohohama's year round or just strictly in winter.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  2 дня назад

      Of course, thanks for watching!! I gave away the old tires so I’ll keep these on year round.

    Did you check out tires at Sam's and Costco?

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  День назад

      I did at Costco, but ultimately decided to shop elsewhere for these as they seemed a bit hesitant about ordering in the CC2 and they don’t offer the Geolanders.

    I'm curious, did the tire shop buy your original tires?

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  День назад

      No, I just wanted to give them away. That way it saves the disposal fee at a tire store, and they would be good tires for someone or some car that has a worse tire.

    Nice. I'm a big fan of Yokohama G015. I was concerned you might risk the Dunlop Grandtrek and end up in a ditch or worse.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  2 дня назад +1

      Thanks for your concern!! Haha, I really didn’t want to buy new tires on a brand new vehicle, but I have a lot more peace of mind now. I’ve watched and seen the aftermath of way too many accidents on the interstate. 😥
