My wife and I stayed in the Grassmarket area when we were there 2 years ago for our honeymoon. We loved the area and went back to Edinburgh this past new year before the world shutdown. Scotland, the people and the nature are so of the most beautiful in the world.
Haste ye back ! x
Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful and relaxing cities you could go to!!!!! And Haggis omg!
I have "lived" in Edinburgh for a total of 4 months...spread out over 4 different years, performing magic during the Fringe Festival, in theatres and on the Mile. I love watching your video tours. Reminds me of what I loved about "living" there. So glad you highlighted Victoria Street, which is visually beautiful and has my favourite shop, Aha Ha Ha, because of the small magic section they have. I hope to return again one day soon because I have a number of friends I'd love to see again, some who live there year round. Cheers!
Right there at the Cowgate used to be a venue in the 80's called La Sorbonne, my friends would play gigs there. I used to manage them. It burned down. I miss that place.
The good old days
I love Edinburgh. My grandfather trained there with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in 1914, and I visited in the spring of '82. It was awesome to walk through the gates of Edinburgh Castle 68 years after Grandad. (There's family lore that says Grandad had a sweet little Scottish lassie with whom he corresponded for many years. Alas, it was not meant to be. Apparently my grandmother found some of the lassie's letters years later, and burned them!)
Yeah that would be right😏
Thanks for sharing your video. It was enjoyable. Felt like I was going on a virtual tour.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We're working our way through your older videos now and were happy to see this one. This year, instead of staying in the New Town, we're staying in the Grassmarket. Thanks for the tour and for being such a great resource as we plan our time in Edinburgh. :)
I'm exceting to discover Edinburgh. I will be in Edinburgh during one week in April. Thank you for sharing this us more about Edinburgh. Regards from Portugal 🇵🇹
Thank you I am listening to all of your videos, to get ready for my visit in August Continue the good work!

Thanks so much for these videos! We're here now at the grassmarket. The Last Drop
Hope you had a pint for me.
Loving your videos in preparation for our upcoming trip there. Especially love the little hidden gems you point out that we can "share as if we just knew that little tidbit." LOL! Plan on using a few of those to impress my daughter. Keep 'em coming! Thanks!!!
Super nice shops and pubs and yes, the small pub is tiny, but worth going into. I didn't know about Mutt's Nuts! I'm so bummed that I didn't go into it but I will next time for sure. Thank you again!!! REALLY good content. Lots of information. Milkman's is really cool too.
Thanks for the post, my grand -daughter was on holiday in your fair city , about a year ago or so and she is a Harry Potter nut ( she's 29 yrs old ) I finally seen where she spent most of her money ..plus several pubs Thanks again Duncan Gibson

Thanks Tony! Just found this and had no idea of Grassmarket when I was there so long ago. Time for me to renew my Passport and get prepared for another visit.
I worked on that building off screen to the right at 0:40 doing lead work, loved looking over the graveyard and looking at the head stones.
Great video! I love it. I will visit the Grassmaket next July, that for sure!
Can’t wait to come home to Scotland. Can smell the fresh air just watching your video. It might be called “Auld Reekie” but it’s no reekin’ fae here! 🏴💙
Glad we give you a nice taste of home.
You'll love it! Full of history clubs, restaurants, shops, much to see and experience!
Finnegan's Wake used to be Preservation Hall in the 80's. A great place for gigs. Friends played there too. Great drinks.

Awesome, you showed the Old Major Weir home part of it.
We live in the north of Scotland and we have booked to go to the cat cafe on our anniversary is the grass market area the best way to find the cafe.
Yes, it is just very slightly up from the Grassmarket. Its a lovely place to visit. Hope you have fun.
Changed since I lived in Edinburgh in the '70s.
I can see loads of changes too.

Could you explain to us what is above all the pubs and shops? Also the alleys between? Are they flats? What are the average costs of flats or living spaces in old town?

Nice one
Is edinburgh safe for a lonely traveler like me,??
GOOD VIDEO
Thank you, Tony! I’ve been watching your videos in preparation for an upcoming trip. They are very well done and helpful. Can someone please answer this question - how do I get from Edinburgh Castle to the grass market? By bus? By taxi? Thanks!
Hi, and thanks very much. In answer to your question. You can walk. The castle is literally above the grass market. Watch my video on The Grassmarket and the video that explore the closes. They should help.
Mammas do gluten free pizzas and pastas too, I love it.
i'm staying at castle rock hostel this summer - that's in the grassmarket right?
Great video! We are visiting next week for the first time! Should we bring heavy coats and hats? Do we need thermal underwear? It seems like it’s in the 60s, but I hear with rain and so forth it seems quite cold. Any input would’ve greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Hi, no you will not need thermals. I would always be prepared for rain however.even the nicest day can turn to rain. It’s getting warmer here now, but it’s not the warmest country in the world.
Oink is too good
I have never tried it actually.
Best cheap munch in Edinburgh (only place I know) pulled pork n haggis can't get any better
How much time does it take? I mean, is it like a couple of hours or a full day? (if I go into some shops and also go to victoria st.)
How much does what take?
Is there any good rock and metal bars around the city centre area, or some reggae bars that are not too for from centre. And would the Frankenstein bar be far from the centre.?
Don't know about reggie, but for Rock you should try Opium in the cowgate.
@@ClanBroonford Cheers.
thanks for the video! Just wondering if you know where abouts the close that Burke and Hare did their nasty business is located? Its been covered over and I hear that its located on the west side, but I would like to know exactly where it is...thanks. btw, my favorite chippy is located right by Armstrongs ( castle rock fish bar )
You know I am not sure, but I will have a bit of a research and see what I can find. You have made me interested to know myself. Glad you like the video.
right on! Let me know if you find anything out. We love your city and have been there quite a lot. We rent a flat above on Hunter square ( kind of above Starbucks )....the blue door is where you gain entrance. I have some family in Cowdenbeath, but we stay in Edinburgh every time we visit.
@Jay s
Didn't think there was one specific close they did 'business' in.
Up near thre 'Cat cafe' is an area called the west port this was their sort of stomping ground.
There is a pub up there called the Burke and Hare , it is pretty much a lap dancing 'club' these day but back in the 80s it was a pretty normal pub with live music[1] (and Go-Go dancers [as they used to be called]).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Port,_Edinburgh
Quote from that site, Was this perhaps what you meant
"The West Port murders were so named as many of the victims were tempted back to Hare's lodgings in
Tanner's Close, off the West Port, to be murdered. The site is now occupied by Argyle House. "
[1] One of the acts was Billy Jones .

Weird to think he is still on the go and pumping out the same stuff 35 years later
I used to work for the National Trust For Scotland as a tourist guide, so it is my thing to learn alot about a place and it's history.
Is it safe to walk around at night time?
I got a. Question where is best shop to find Scotish dolls always wanted one and also vegan place to eat
What kind of dolls. and there is a good Vegan restaurant on leith walk called Harmonium.
Love your vids, esp on Edinburgh, as we are coming in September... Question: how is the wifi there? Is there much? Is it "good"? We are considering using wifi to contact each other instead of phone costs... (from Canada) Thank you!!!
There is a free Edinburgh public WiFi in the center of town. Its not great. Most restaurants and some public buildings have free WiFi however.
“The grassmarket”
yellow car "
I can't be the only one wondering why there's no grass...
