@thescottishdetectorist, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this video!! I watch your metal detecting videos from the US, and I wanted to show my support!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this tour, John. You are a wealth of knowledge and I could listen to you tell stories all day. Thanks so much for starting this channel and taking us along.
Wowww. JK Rowling, 12 publishers rejected The Philosopher's Stone. 'Thankfully, she never gave up.' Oh. My. Love your new channel and premise of longer but short virtual tours. VERY SMART, and sure makes us long to plan a tour with you soon! 🏴
I've watched this twice, thoroughly! John, you're an exceptional tour guide, most likely the best I've had the pleasure of listening to. Even though this is my old stomping ground, I've learned so much from your channel and especially this video! Your content is second to none, and I've been recommending your channel whenever I can! Cheers, brother.
Great job John! A man of many talents. Been watching your detector videos for a good while. I am 70 years old and probably will never get to walk the streets, but like your other videos I can live and learn thru your adventures and stories. So glad you invited us to this channel, now I have another place to go. Thanks John
It's wonderful to be able to visit a place through the eyes of a masterful historian and storyteller. Your videos allow me to see places that I will never be able to physically visit so thank you, John, for posting these on youtube.
Great tour John. Went to art college there, we had a studio in the Grassmarket. All my hairs used to stand on end, crossing over past the gibbet on the way to the pub/lunch. Just so many layers of history in every stone there.
John very well narrated .. extremely informative .. the amount of history in such a small area of the very picturesque city of Edinburgh is astounding…I’ve visited Edinburgh a couple of times over the years .. one memory sticks out from the rest was when we was sitting in the beautiful garden under the historic Edinburgh Castle eating and drinking a picnic I remember drinking a nice cold drink exactly at the time of the 1pm cannon blast from the wall of the castle … needless to say I wasn’t expecting it and split all the contents of the plastic flask down my neatly pressed shirt and trousers ..after the initial shock …embarrassment quickly followed especially when everyone gave out a huge laughter …
So Amazing, it's like walking back in History, seeing all the old architecture and the shop fronts, it literally feels like walking in 19th century Edinburgh! For me it feels totally alien, as we have nothing like that here at all.
We stayed in a flat right off the Grassmarket on the South Castle Wynd. Edinburgh is, without a doubt, the most charming city I've ever visited. 🏴
Yes. Yes, I will. Still so much to see, despite doing three walking tours in two days, and bombing around the Castle and Holyrood. Middle-aged and creaky, but determined. Enjoying both channels. Cheers. 👍😉
I know I said this on your last video but I just wanted to say it again. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you posting these videos. I have always loved Scotland and due to my physical disabilities, I will never be able to go there. It means more than you know to not only get to see these places, but to learn more about the history from somebody who lives there. So, thank you for brightening my day.
Fabulous tour of this region of Edinburgh, John! Thank you so much for the history, perspective, and truly beautiful views! Taking my notes from your videos! So exciting!!!
You truly are a fantastic tour guide. Perhaps more like the Piped Piper, I certainly have a strong desire to visit Scotland now. Thank you, what a magnificent town Edinburgh is.
Wonderful tour. Upon graduation from nursing program, I took my wife to UK for two weeks. Edinburg was our favorite week of the visit. Wonderful people and country, Thank you John.
A wonderful tour John! Edinburgh is such a beautiful city!! Your knowledge is amazing and thank you for sharing!! All your videos of your country are beautiful, we get to take a peek of history through your eyes!! Keep sharing with us, just like you’re detecting!! 👍🪙🏰
I visited Edinburgh over three decades ago and loved it, but I see from your guided tour that I missed so much! What a wonderful chance to revisit this city. If I every hear somebody saying they are going to Scotland I will recommend you as a wonderful tour guide. These videos are marvelous. Thanks! 🥰💕❤️👍👍
Yes please. I like what I've seen and heard and will subscribe. So much interesting history. I try to go on blue guide tours wherever I go and have always found the stimulating. Thanks for pointing to this channel from your fields of Perthshire.
Really enjoyed this tour John, I worked in Edinburgh about six years ago, for a week at the observatory, I was very impressed by this beautiful and clean city full of nice people. 👍
Hi John. I have loved your "Scottish Detectorist" channel for quite some time. I think I was one of the first 20K subscribers there, and have been subscribed here since you first announced it on your other channel. I, like almost all others love the historical content. That sets you apart...your remarkable presentation of history. I am also a fan of the mining industry and mining history. I would love to hear you opine about some of the mining history of Scotland. -Hans
Another treat, interesting and informative as usual. I can enjoy Edinburgh vicariously from my home in Australia . I hope that I will be able to visit it again in future Thanks John 😀
Love your little tour videos. I am originally from dunfermline now living in sunny Kent. I do miss Scotland and its beautiful majestic scenery and haggis and white pudding supper 😊
Blessings, my Scottish Tour Master, from this old man in northeast Tennessee. What a truly enlightening and educational experience. Thanks for sharing, John.
Amazing tour and loved to hear about all the historical facts on the city. I visited there once many years ago on the way to visit my Aunt Nettie in Glasgow lol, I didn't have enough time to explore Edinburgh properly.
I love the longer video! This is really great, John! I first discovered you from your metal detecting videos, and I very much enjoy the history and stories that you include. Great job !

Thanks a lot for making this video John. I have visited Edinburgh when I was very young with my parents. My mother used to make or knit Jumpers for Edinburgh Wool, so we visited their shop in Edinburgh.
Wanted to say thanks John. It's embarrassing to admit this but I grew up in Scotland. I still fly home regularly and used to work in the Cowgate long ago. I learned 4 things in 13 minutes that I did not know about the city and area steps away from where I worked for years. Everyone should watch these tours, worth every minute
A great tour John! Although we may never get there we have a good idea of how the Old City of Edinburgh looks. It reminds me of Old Quebec City in Canada! Beautiful!
