I first saw this film when I was twelve. Hepburn was magnificent as the terrorized blind woman; Alan Arkin (yes, the superb comedic actor) had one of his best roles as the beautifully villainous heroine-trafficker. Mancini's score, especially the love theme, framed the story wonderfully.

Have always wanted to kick Efrem Zimbalist, for expecting Audrey to find him, after the horrible experience she just went thru. !!!

Easily one of my all-time favorite movie scores. It's so eerie and beautiful. So much of the movie's sinister, nightmarish atmosphere comes from the music-- it's truly a shame that Mancini rarely got to score thrillers like this (Experiment in Terror and The Night Visitor are the other big ones that come to mind.)

Without a doubt one of the scariest, most chilling movies I've ever seen. (And no matter how many times I've seen it, the "surprise" still shocks.) Listening to this suite, Fred, I've come to realize anew just what a significant contribution Mancini's score makes to the overall effectiveness of the film. As you've pointed out, another milestone in Mancini-Hepburn collaboration; thanks so much for posting this!

l was about 7 when l saw this with a babysitter. lt was thee most frightening, hair raising, and bone chilling movies l've ever seen! Never forgot Henry's brilliant score either! That piano thing was SO eerie! l remembered it forever! Alan Arkin was superb in it! l was so scared of him that l refused to believe he was 'just an actor'' at 7! He was truly evil in my mind! GREAT GREAT performances from all! Audrey was just amazing!

In 1967 the collaboration between composer Henry Mancini and actress Audrey Hepburn reached another peak. One, that one would not consider to be working out fine at first sight: in the genre of horror.
But Hepburn and Mancini both proved to be professionals on their own, working out in this case with great performances, each. The strange piano voices to be heard throughout the score are to be told “two pianos, tuned a quarter-tone apart, with the "wrong" notes eerily echoing the "right" ones.” (FSM).
Enjoy this musical “Experiment Of Terror”!

Think "terror" describes this film better than "'horror".
      A classic either way IMHO.

Genuinely one of my favorite films - and a genuinely amazing film score!

I was fascinated by how Mancini used an out of tune piano to create tension in the disturbing scenes. Brilliant.

Great hearing this again. As ominous and frightening as when I saw the film in 67.
Some uplifting and melancholic moments as well, in that classic 60's "mode" that HM created.
But seriously folks, this is as unnerving a musical experience that you get from a master at top of his game.

Echt faszinierend!

Strings and trombones can also play microtones but it is not often done.

Sorry to bother you... could you tell me the name of the font you used for "A Soundtrack Suite" "Music Composed and Conducted by" etc.? It looks similar to Narkisim, but it isn't.
