Lovely review Chris. I tested it out a few months back and have to say it's a brilliant lens, just a bit of a funny focal range. It's a beast of a lens too. But I tell you what, Sigma are really killing it these days. All the best, Chris
+Chris Winter Thanks Chris! Yeah I loved it...not the ideal lens to be carrying around the Welsh hills for my landscape photography though haha. Happy New Year to you
+Chris Winter Funny focal range when you think about it as a zoom lens but if you think about it as a 3 prime lens in one because of it's fast aperture and sharpness, it's kind of awesome!
Hi Chris I just brought this lens on the basis of your review, I just wanted to say thank you and I look forward to seeing more of your reviews (especially if you do a 85mm comparison review :D ). It was a toss up between this and the canon 16-35 f4 but I have to say this (for my uses anyway) is a lot more versatile. Keep up the good work.
Absolutly spot on review. I picked up one of these this weekend having fancied one for some time... for weddings precisely as you suggest. Very impressed so far bar that slight AF issue you mention and... the weight!! Otherwise it is undoubtlby going to be very lovely for bridal prep coverage. Thanks Chris
24, 28, and 35 are extraordinarily common for video shooters and this lens certainly can free up 3 spaces in the kit bag in that respect. To that end I can also see the lens being useful for videographers who shoot multiple form factors. In particular shooters of the a7r ii which is stronger as a super 35 at high ISO can benefit from it. This lens will enable you to use one optic and still get a very respectable '35' - 50ish FOV when you switch over.
Please do a comparison of the 18-35mm 1.8 on a FF vs. this lens. The 18-35 works from 28-35mm. I've been using it on my 6D. That is why I debate getting the 24-35.
The 82mm filter thread demands expensive filters. The 920 grammars make it also heavy. But full frame bright zoom lenses are very rarely lightweight. The 24-35mm isn't a great zoom. Also a photo of a very sharp 24mm prime lens can be cropped with decent results without the need of a 35mm lens. Although for some photographers decent quality isn't enough. Very convenient lens indeed and with price close to that of 18-35mm f/1.8 aps-c lens.
Not sure if there is "no point in considering this lens" for crop sensors the 35-50ish equivalent on an aps-c are fantastic focal lengths for video. I have used to 18-35mm and can say that it doesn't disappoint. but if you look to upgrade to full frame, id get the 24-35
A local has the sigma and I have the 15-30mm so I will be testing it tonight to see how they compare but indeed there is a HUGE focal range difference between the two so that maybe enough for me to keep the Tamron
Can i suggest you review the Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens? I just got it my self and its a very affordable lens for the range you get and so far im very happy with it. Kind regards, Zach
I like this range. i currenly only have 24 and 35 primes and one poor 28mm which is my favorite focal length. I wonder if I could speedboost this to an A6400.
happy new year Chris! being a 6D user I find your work extremely helpful - keep them reviews coming :) got myself this lens in late August and, apart from fact it is a dang heavy bazooka, I'm very happy with it. cheers!
After a second though I believe that this lens is great for travelers of cities. From my experience the classic, affordable and sharp 50mm focal length is very restrictive for city photography. It is very narrow for architectural sightseeings. On the other hand no matter how good a 20mm lens is, it creates unavoidable perspective distortions. These perspective distortions sometimes are nice but most times are distracting and demand post processing. The 24-35mm is ideal. 24mm for architectural photography, 35mm for street photography. The 35mm at f/2 can give shallow depth of field and Bokeh. The difference between f/2.8 and f/2 is one stop which is important. I like taking photos of cities during nights. Most cities are more beautiful during nights. The f/2 can lower the ISO. My only disappointment about this lens is its weight and the lack of a-mount yet.
i sold my 70d (for the love of good). i was tired about missing auto focus. now i bought 6d. and i want to decide if sigma art lenses worths! i read some bad reviews about auto focus on sigmas art. in my case, i plan to shoot some videos and im thinking in canon 35 f2 is instead. ou sigma 24mm 1.4. i dont know what i do!
I wonder why this lens and the 18-35 are the only Sigma Art zooms that zoom in clockwise (the Nikon and Panasonic direction) whereas all the others zoom in the Canon direction?
Hi Christopher, I have a 50mm 1.4, a 70-200mm 2.8 and will soon get a 85mm 1.2. Should I get this Sigma 24-35mm 2.0, a 24-70mm 2.8, a 15-30mm 2.8 or 24mm/35mm primes?
Hi @christopherfrostphotography I'm a big fan of your channel :). I wonder if you ever heard about the sigma 20-40mm f2.8? I believe that it's the older budget version of this 24-35 f2 Art. Anyhow, reviews says it's a germ and I wonder what you think of it :)
+Angelo Oportus Sigma should release a 50-135 f2.8. Smaller and lighter, ideal portrait zoomlens for apsc. Or maybe Tokina can bring theirs back to life.
Can you expand on why the 18-35 is recommended over this lens if using APS-C? Thank you. Also, would the 18-35 and 35 1.4 be a better fit for an APS-C?
good review chris, thinking of buy thing lens for landscape. What are your thoughts on this lens vs nikon 16-35 f4 g again for landscape, god bless Chris.
Sigma dock fixes everything you shouldn't worry. If you use the lens on Sony mirrorless like i do with the Sigma MC11 then everything is perfect straight away
@M Daniial if they release one with image stabilization and good auto focus at the art sharpness for under 1k that will get canon to start thinking more. Hopefully it comes to fruition.
Thanks for the review Christopher, i've been thinking about getting either this lens or the tamron 35mm vc, which one would you recommend to use with my 80D? i was planning to get the 18-35 1.8 but i heard it has massive issues with AF. Thanks.

I must be the last man on earth who doesn't like like sigma lenses. Poor af, qc, internal build quality, too big and heavy with loads of elements all in the name of sharpness at wide open aperture. I guess they at least are sharp and have nice external build.
+clay cooper the AF is just fine, you can tune it for speed & accuracy with a USB dock..."loads of elements all in the name of sharpness at wide open aperture" who wants a lens that's not sharp?
Af can be tuned for accuracy, but not consistency. There is too much sample variation to trust buying used, and that cuts into the cost advantage. If you get a good one though that's great. Generally, lens elements are added to increase corner resolution at wider apertures, correct for distortion, light falloff and coma, spherical and chromatic abbreviations. That does all come with some costs, as light transmission and integrity is absorbed and warped by every glass element it passes through. This can effect color saturation and contrast, not to mention weight and cost. These new sigma art lenses (and many other new primes) are just not my thing. For those who like them or need such features, that's great.

Es para poder pasar rapido cuado estoy trabajando de un modo otro de recorte con el mismo sentido sin tener que pasar por los menús. Gracias
I would like to make a direct access to the APSC photo mode in one year
It knows if it is possible with buttons M1 to M4 with another mode.
It is to be able to pass quickly when I am working in another way of cutting with the same sense without having to go through the menus. Thank you
I'm really sorry but I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about!
Disfruto cada video que hace y su forma de hacerlo. Muchas gracias por su esfuerzo de siempre.
