DESPITE having an age gap of 30 years, married couple Melinda and Larry Mikla have revealed their baby plans to their friends and family. Mindy, 27, and Larry, 57, are saving up for a procedure that Mindy describes as the ‘mild version of In Vitro or IVF’. With a 95 percent chance of success, the happy couple, from Florida, are now more than hopeful they will be able to become parents in the near future - even though Larry had a vasectomy back in the early 90s. Larry already has a son, 27-year-old Bruce Mikla - the same age as Mindy - but this would be Mindy’s first child. When Larry and Mindy first met, Mindy didn’t feel like she wanted children, but as her big wedding day loomed, she began to have a change of heart.

I'm someone who's parents have an age gap relationship. They also married at an older age. My dad was 60 when I was born. From my personal experience, I really don't think it's a good idea to have kids when you're that old. One of the hardest things I have to cope with is knowing my dad won't be around for my wedding, my kids being born, or any other important event in my adult life and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone else. Ik that people lose their parents when they're young regardless of age, but it's a lot less likely to happen if you're not as old when you have children. Still, I wish them the best of luck and this isn't a hate comment! I love my dad and I'm so grateful for him but there are negatives to having kids at an older age that I think people may not realize.

Also, I don't think you'd be selfish to do so but it's really great you're thinking about the future. Although my time with my dad is shortened it isn't any less than someone else's so I think you should have kids if it's something you really want!

Yeah that’s a totally fair comment like there are different things to consider with regards to the future of a relationship when both people aren’t going through their stages of life together. I think they seem like a very mature and sensible couple but things like deterioration of health with age etc and the weight that might put on the younger partner etc are legitimate points, particularly with such a large gap.

I saw their first Barcroft video & fell in love with this couple. I'm so glad they are happy. Baby or not, I wish them the best. My father was in his 50's when I was born- and I wasn't a surprise baby. My parents were newly married & had both had boys from previous marriages. They wanted a girl. They got it right on the first shot. I'm grateful to have been born out of the great love I know they shared. I'm 54 now, but never had a thought that my dad was "too old" to be my parent. He was just my dad. And even though he was quite a bit older than my mom, she absolutely adored him. He passed away first, & she never stopped missing him till the day she died. Now they're back together, & someday we'll all be together as a family in Heaven.

Yep. There is no age on love. My husband was 20 years older than myself. The only drawback was he passed at 57, with colon cancer, and I was a widow at 37. But we had 15 wonderful years together!!

With heart disease, obesity, cancer, etc these days.... That could really be true of any age. My dad died at 45 of a heart attack. I'm 36 and dating a 65 year old man who bikes 30 miles a day and is healthier than I am. I'm not saying age isn't a factor but it's definitely not the only factor.
My dad is in his 60s and doing terrible. My bf's gram in her early 90s is actually doing better in some ways than my own father is ...than even my own maternal gram in her 70s. My bf's parent's are in their late 60s to early 70s and I swear they are more active and healthier than even I am!
It's not even about dying anymore like my mom had me very old and I suffered from it my whole life. He can't even help his son.

He isn't fully closed off to the idea of a relationship with a step-sibling and is moving forward in a positive direction with his relationship with his father's wife. She seems open, warm, and not hostile or rude so she could help him understand and better highlight his attractive qualities and get that text back. We don't know what happened with Larry's ex-wife/girlfriend and Bruce's mother. He may have abandonment issues and that's why he's fearful of a relationship. He may have unresolved issues with his father so the resentment is being placed on the new wife. We don't know.

It was to let them know because they had previously said that they weren't going to have children. It's a normal thing to tell your friends and family when you start trying to have a baby. Most people don't realize that because nowadays so many babies are accidents.
Maybe they made some money for being on this TV show because this topic would be interesting/entertaining to some viewers.

It's kind of unfair that he just started a new family and moved away from his son. His son isn't that happy and totally normal for him to feel that way. It's kind of crazy to begin a family so late in his life. There is no way that he will live to see that child grow up which is unfair to the child.
His son must be about 30, lots of people live in different cities/states to their children by that age. I would be shocked if he didn't live to see his child grow up, average life expectancy would at least get him to see his child reach 18. Hopefully she will help keep him young, and if he lives a healthy lifestyle he could live to see his child reach 30-40. Many people never even know their father, or have parents who have died early. At least they seem like they will be good loving parents.

Wow, I'm 25 and my Father is 60.. I couldn't imagine to date one of his friends. I guess when the difference is more than 15 to 20 years people are kinda shocked. I cant help but feel bad for him too bc I experienced something similar with my mom. And regardless of age it does still really hurt. And speaking of moms mindy and larry said Bruce lives with his mother in Ohio so I assume they are close. It was in one of their q&a's on her channel(mindy minx) in case you want to check it out. The few times I've seen them all together definitely feels a bit offputting like in this video. I have nothing against the age gap between these two. What I do take issue is that she seems… Rather dominant. He seems… Passive. For reasons I really can’t discern from what I am seeing in this video. Her entire demeanor just seems… Wrong. She seems to be guiding him, almost ordering him in the most passive way. And I believe his son sees this. And there are moments where father and Son seem to be almost… On the same wave length. I don’t know how I feel about this but I get a very negative vibe from this.

As it is, time is already limited on this planet and, why live life based on people's expectations of 'one's own life'. After all, you aren't an under age child and being with an older partner won't affect others' lives in any way. I agree completely but the issue is when you start interjecting children. Its not just about love anymore its about the children's lives and the reality that she will be entering the middle of her life and the children will be going into adulthood and he will be dead. Its morbid and it sucks but its just a fact. Personally If I loved someone as much as he seemingly loves her I would move on.
