Yes, I remember this as a kid. My Grandmother used to add coconut flakes and walnuts as well😊

I remember my sister-in-law making this every summer when the family would get together for 4th of July barbecue and other outings like the Labor Day clambake. Her dessert was always a huge hit with everyone. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It brings back nice memories of summer holidays long ago. 🎆🎉🎇🧨🇺🇸❤

Yes! I remember this salad! It was so good! I wanted to make a pie of this sort, but only had lemon pudding mix. So I used it and instead of pecans added a small can of drained mandarin oranges and some coconut! It was delicious...like a Pina colada pie. Thanks for the recipe!❤

I make this regularly, but I mix the cool whip with the pudding first adding the juice from the crushed pineapple first. Then add the pineapple and pecans, when it settles and gets fluffy I add the marshmallows.

This was recipe created by a chef at Watergate hotel I believe in the mid to late 60’s. It was so popular that some women’s magazine got the recipe and released it. It became a part of many Americans’ social party. When you signed up to bring something to a party, Watergate salad was a safe bet to bring. The watergate scandal was so named because the Republican/Nixon sponsored burglary of Democrat party information occurred at the Watergate hotel. Hope that clears it up!

Nope. It has nothing to do with the Watergate hotel and it is unknown where the name comes from. Look for the New York Times article on it

The reason it is called Watergate salad is because it was served as a dessert at the Watergate restaurant in the Watergate building in 1970's

It’s called “Watergate Salad” because things things are hidden inside - like the Watergate Scandal

The simplest of how to recipes and you don’t even mix the pudding and pineapple mix first. A rush job video 😢
