That whole Self Loader series, models 3, 5, 7, and 10 are pretty cool rifles. I have a model 10, made in 1915. I'd love to have one of each!
At 70 yrs old I just inherited (or rather found out who in the family had it) a Winchester 1903. It was my Dad's and I remember shooting it when I was a boy back in the 50s and 60s. I am so glad you posted this on youtube so I could find out about it. Great video!!
Pete Wilhelmsen are you going to get it back?
Did you realize 6 years ago you sounded just like Clint Eastwood 😂
Really nice condition for such an early version. Mine is much later and not nearly as nice. I think I have more money in ammo for it then for the gun itself. I bought it because it just has a great look. I guess the 63 would have been more useful and cheaper to shoot, but I just really wanted the 1903.
Yes the ammo is very hard to find, Cabela's was selling it manufactured by old western scrounger out of California. I find it once in a while at gun show's & pay aprox $19- 25 for a box of 50. I have 5 or 6 boxes now but am always looking for more.
When I first got my 1890 in 22wrf it was during the last ammo crunch so I couldn't enjoy it other than looking at it but once it was available again I bought 1000s and will admit it's more than the old girl will ever see go through but I'd rather have it than not
I just inherited one. Really cool little gun. I found the ammo but geese it's like 31 cents a round. I'm gonna bite the bullet (pun intended) and order a bulk box . It belonged to my wife's great grandfather. Cheers!
What caliber size does it use?
Same here, just this last Christmas, my father gave me my grandpa's 1903. It needed a thorough cleaning and lube, so while I was doing that, I bought three boxes of 50 online. Problem was, as soon as I shot it for the first time I fell in love. This thing shoots like a 10/22. I was not expecting it to function so smoothly for such an old rifle. Needless to say, I just ordered a brick of 500. It was pricey, but I think it's worth getting while it's still available. If I can still find it later in the year, I think I'll get another brick. Great rifle!
Hope you stocked up on ammo because you never know when it'll disappear again from production, all my odd calibers get stocked on ammo when I find it
I own a whichester 1903, I have 36 original rounds for it. I love the way it shoots. How can I find out what year mine was made ?
i have one it seems to shoot just fine.
i live in Canada does the other one to.
mine is a 1903 sl good condition.
Looks to me like the .22auto, .22WRF, and .22mag all share the same case dimensions except for length.....
I didn’t know for sure so I just went and checked them. The 22 mag and 22 wrf have the same case and rim width. The auto is around 10 thousandths bigger that the other two in both measurements.
I will put a picture of the three in the community tab of my channel.
Next time, keep that weapon up and down range at all times !
I'm about to buy a 1903 but got discouraged about the lack of am,o for it.
Where can I get ammo and is it readily available?
www.luckygunner.com
I am going to take a wild guess and say that was another John Browning design??
Not 100% sure but TC Johnson is credited as the designer in the references I have.
Look up aguila 22 Winchester automatic
holy fuck!!! $1 a bullet
Bom amigos tenho uma é membro da família e ela ta com um problema não joga as Cacá da bala pra fora gostaria de saber como resolver esse problema obrigado
I have one in 100% condition but it is nickel plated. I have not been able to shoot it as I cant find ammo for it.
Where do you live Andy? There is new production ammo from aguila and its pretty easy to find in the US
@@WalnutandSteel My old man has one and he lives in South Africa
@@Andy-Gibb sorry if you can’t get it in South Africa.
@@WalnutandSteel no worries just that is a awesome little rifle. I am thinking of having it re- barreled for a 22 lr but it would be a shame to change something that is virtually in 100 % condition and a bit of history.
I have one in Portugal and i cant find ammo😢
need 22 mag shells 22 shorts will not eject
leonard lunsford this rifle uses 22 winchester automatic ammo not 22 short or magnum
Would regular 22lr ammo work on this rifle?
Alan Arns no this one uses22 winchester automatic. 22lr is a lot different
If you want this rifle chambered in .22LR get the Winchester model 63. Exact same gun except caliber. Someone on a forum rechambered one of these 03’s to fire .22LR but claimed it would cost less to simply buy a model 63 instead. You can still find Aguila 22Win Auto in plentiful supply around 15-18 dollars a box/50rds.
Jim Bonney i have one of those too!
Technicaly it is possible to fire the .22 long rifle in this gun but the case will rupture and it will not extract properly.
Cant hear a friggin word you say
