X Pilot I can confidently say you’ve sparked my interest in planes.
So realistic. Glad everyone survived, thanks to the shallow water level.
Planes float...shallow water likely had little to do with it
Austin Swick but probably not for long and depending on the water
Austin Swick which planes float
@@suzyrottencrotch5132 floatplanes
@@hondaisdashiz Yes they do problem is that water is not compressible so usually the plane just breaks up
It's fantastic that there's at least one person on RUclips who does this kind of videos with a flight simulator that's not almost 20 years old.
The feeling of being a passenger on that plane when it went into the water......horrifying.
I’m so obsessed with this channel, and I feel like I’m learning a couple of things too which is the best
X Pilot, thank you for all your hard work. The quality really reflects your effort.
love how they took the companies decals off the plane so fast lol.. Like no one knows what airlines it was.
I worked for a major US Based Airline, that's one of the first things they do. I doesn't do much good, they paint over decals, etc.. but they don't paint over everything, so you still can identify the airline easier. Ex.. AA paints over insignia, but leaves the tell tail stripes. (Old Livery)
@@jasoncentore1830 It doesn't work. People still know what airline it is along with the news media broadcasting.
Im really appreciative of the videos, and editing work you do here, thank you.
This is the best airplane sim channel. Thanks so much for all your hard work! Appreciate it!!
I honestly knew nothing about planes until I found this channel; now I've learnt (spelt learned in other countries) so much, including about 9/11, multiple other historic crashes and how a plane works! Thank you for putting so much time and effort into these videos! I love each and every one of them and try my best to see one the second it's uploaded (sadly was eating so I'm late buut). Thank you
I will and already have :)
Learnt is not even a fucking word!
@@partgard1 that is a bit harsh, English may not be his home language. I also think he/she is still young. By all means offer a correction of his/her vocabulary or spelling but refrain from using profanities.
@Escape The Matrix Thank you. With age comes perception, respect, consideration, knowledge and wisdom.
Learnt is British English for learned.
Great video as always X pilot!
Another good video Xpilot. So glad you don’t add music or Hollywood style effects to your vids. Keep up the good work.
There has been a lot more airplane crashes than I thought.
I can't stop watching your videos. When I'm not a student and have disposable income I will join your patreon.
Wow! You make great videos (my new favourite channel;)
Great content as always!
Best graphics of all the channels I have seen as yet !
Great video, keep it up the good work!
Another amazing video!
Nice video man!
Nice coverage and simulation. Hong Kong is the only jurisdiction I know that doesn't release pilot's names as part of an investigation report.
Another great video!!
I like these so much I'm happy to watch in 360p.
Great videos. I enjoy the analysis and root cause results.
Years ago a China Air 747 lost an engine over the Pacific while enroute to California and did a barrel roll, with an incredible recovery by the pilot- a pilot friend was in New York the next morning. he told me that at China Airs Building in New York there were bumper stickers placed on the windows ( upside Down ) that said " You've Seen us Drive - Now watch us Fly - China Airlines
LOL!
I'm addicted to these videos, they are superb. Almost better than Air Crash Investigation
These vids are really done well!
HAPPY 40K SUBS!!!
Really well made :)
Nicely done!
You're the man.
I remember this event. I had just flown back to Vancouver from Hong Kong a few days before, but I fly Cathay Pacific.
Awesome content as always X Pilot!

Flying into Kai Tak was a great way to tour the city!
Its such a thrill to hear everyone survived!
They should have applied the hand break
He shouldve just stopped going forward omg L oL

Pilot error is a group of things that are not done, noticed, executed, changed, or corrected. This crew had a very challenging approach and the profile and conduct of the landing became unstable. Normally corrections can be made, but there is a lot of times that adequate runway length creates the impression of safe operation as could have happened here. A go around is sometimes the best choice. You also have to realize that the crew has a strong bias towards completing the approach and correcting deviations in profile and airspeed. Airline protocol often prescribe a minimum altitude under which an unstabilized approach cannot be continued, but each operator can use his judgment to act even sooner than that.
I remember this accident when it happened. China Airlines removed their name from the fuselage while it was stranded in the water.
That sounds like something the red chinese would do. For all their bullying and bluster they are very concerned about their image.
Remember when China's high-speed rail train crashed and fell off its raised track? They buried the train cars in the field where the crash happened... Didn't happen.
@GoldenState More like liberals who are still so sore about losing an election rigged in their favor that they have to bring up how much they hate Trump in every conversation whether it regards American politics or not!
Maverick44 Or someone pointing to the irony that he considers China disgraceful while personally adopting an ego that emulates what makes them disgraceful. You’re the one that brought up hating him. Insecure much?
This was not a "red chinese" vessel, are you all blind? The flag of the "other" china is on the tail. This is a Taiwanese airplane. They also call themselves China.
Pilot and copilot were never seen again.

Amazing graphics
Good graphics!
I'm so glad this one had a happy ending. The last one I watched was incredibly sad.
What was it?
Lesson #1 when unsure, go around. There's plenty of time to accelerate to V2 after touching down. Instead of late braking, using reverse thrust and pushing it, they should have have gone around the moment they touched down an realized that brakes did not activate for a while. Remember, if the brakes did not activate they would not have lost much speed even if they rolled for a third of the runway.
Try São Paulo as well, what a night mare for someone looking out the aircraft windows
EDIT: excellent graphics
Very well done.
Perfect :D
What happened to the tail? Tail just fine at 5:15 but other photos show it BLASTED OFF WITH DYNAMITE. Interfered with guided aproaches to that runway.
Thank god everyone survived
Not too often have I seen the pilot completely at fault during crashes...it's usually the pilots that come up with ways to somehow get out of insane circumstances. Crazy this happened considering his amount of hours.
What software do you use to re-create the flight?
Will you do a video on the plane that was recently stolen from Sea-Tac International?
Man, as soon as I realised that the auto-brakes were not engaged, I would given it full thrust immediately, and taken a go around. They delayed braking by several seconds, and on a plane that heavy, you need every second you can get.
robert.
Just as well you are not a pilot. You cannot engage the engines on full thrust and try to fly around again, the aircraft would have been travelling too slow to fly up.
Thus full thrust! ;-) I'm not a pilot, but I am a former Air Traffic Controller. I've watched them do it many times.
rob.
In that scene the aircraft had already landed and the pilot has engaged reverse thrust; in order for a 747 to get airborne again, it will need at least 10,000 ft of runway to build up momentum and wind strength. What you are talking about is when an aircraft (like a large commercial jet)) is already in the air.
I must have not caught that part of the video. I thought they hit the burst while still in the air on final, not yet having contact the ground. That said, they might need a full runway on departure with a full load of fuel, but they are significantly lighter at the arrival station. I think they could have made a go around as they were already at flight speed (ie, they were in flight already). I might have to rewatch that one and see.
3:30 - he noticed the autobrake is disengaged *right at touchdown* . At this point, he already has enough speed to take off again. He should have gone full thrust, and taken a go around. he'd have had plenty of speed already to take off in very little runway distance. Instead, he tries to brake the plane without the reverse thrusters engaged in time. I don't know how accurate the time scale is in the video, but it looks like he went on for about ten seconds before braking at all. That is a LONG time.
good thing everyone survived
The Auto breaking system were turned off seconds after touchdown, when the Captain decided to use manual braking and thrust reversal.
Yep. Nailed it!
Nice video bro how do you record these? What simulation?
P3D, but Xplane 11 is superior by comparison.
That was just a sad situation all the way around. Thank God no one was killed.
Wow, the flight path is really through the city like that?
Yes, it was. I hated flying into Kai Tak because the approach was so constrained, but you did get a tour of Hong Kong before landing! On a night flight, I was able to look into apartment windows and watch people eat dinner. Unsettling to say the least. Kai Tak was closed in 1998 and replaced by the current Hong Kong International about 20 miles to the west and having a much better approach and takeoff geography.
They used to fly right over our Flats! Used to live minutes away from Checkerboard Hill which you can see at 2:56 -3:00 on the left which was in Kowloon Tsai Park. You could go up there and see all the way down to the runway and get a very good view of these beasts landing!
Good video showing the view ruclips.net/video/YdVupou9ZZA/видео.html
There are videos of planes landing.. It's scary stuff..
It would have been a heck of a plane watching site on Checkerboard Hill. I could easily see the top of the hill as we flew by. Did any planes ever crash into all those hundreds of buildings that surrounded the flight path? I never heard of any but, of course, I didn't live in Hong Kong.
I was there between 90-92 Jim, nothing like that happened whilst we lived there but I do remember at least one going off of the end of the runway. Also one not long after we left in 93 slid off the end. As shown in the video (I totally forgot what I was commenting on! haha)
It would've been disastrous if it did happen and probably circulated world wide, so as far as I remember it thankfully didn't.
If anyone is in HK around the time of the Lantern festival Tsai park is a lovely place to visit! :0
I've flown a handful of times and was blissfully unaware of what was happening. These vids make me paranoid.
best video.
Have you ever done a video on the crash of ASE 529?
how come thrust reversers were already engaged during the turn onto the short finals
Not knowing the airport or the incident, I thought once the plane had landed and slowed down 'well this won 't be too bad' but then I saw the sea at the end of runway...
I THINK THAT WILL BUFF RIGHT OUT.
It did. Apart from the tailfin being blown off with dynamite.
Wind at 70 degrees is mostly a crosswind and definitely not a tailwind so the real question is how did the Auto Brakes end up OFF? .
Guy Guyguy
Good question, what happened there? I wish that Pilot X would do a follow up on details like this. they are very important to understanding what actually happened.
@@watershed44 thank you for this comment, they echo my thoughts.

I wish Pilot X, TheFlightChannel, and Allec Joshua Ibay would do a live chat and allow subs to ask questions about the various incidents they have produced on these accidents.
Oh shut up you wannabe pilots. 😆
@@miniena7774 we are not wannabe pilots. We are satisfied with our current occupations and enjoy an interest in aviation. While most people just want to put petrol or deisel in the motor vehicles and drive from a to b, other people want to know what's under the hood and how it works. That does not mean we want to be vehicle mechanics.
Top Crash!... a good landing is one you can walk away from 👍✈️
Wind sheer or missed approach = Go Around., get in the pattern set up for another approach. This pilot miss 3 must Go Arounds. I don’t have the information but did the FO fail to make an assertion?
Can you do the royal air maroc ATR one, crashed 1992 I think, something like that
Artillery only!
can you do one on the Avianca crash and Tenerife disaster?
Whats your Computer? So sharp Graphic ,Sound and Fluent
The 'Old' Kai Tak airport was in the middle of high rise buildings, Pilots landing there had to have special skills ,given the lack of CRM at that time the left turn of the aircraft could have been avoided perhaps had the Captain discussed with the co pilot, however, seniority and 'Face' would have precluded such action at that period of cockpit management, especially in Asia.
Everyone survived because the captain of a passing tugboat, realising that a Jumbo was a bit out of place floating free in Victoria harbour, got in behind the plane and pushed it back up to the bank beside the runway. At that time the water level in the back of the plane was already up to chest height because the hull was punctured as it went over the wall. If the tug hadn't done that there would have been drownings.
3:14 anyone else notice the reverses are deployed?
Nope, I saw it too.
3:10 : thrust reversers deployed during flight. (I thought flying like that went out of style in the 80s or so)
5:10 : "The late thrust reverser activation also contributed to the lack of deceleration of the aircraft"
So apparently, the pilot should have deployed them even EARLIER ;-)
Andy Huang The pilot could’ve used more reverse thrust to stop the aircraft before it went into the sea.
God, I'm glad the passengers survived...
" The plane's vertical stabilizer interfered with the accuracy of the ILS signals for runway 31, so it was removed with dynamite shortly after the crash. ". jesus, I know the structure is pretty strong but dynamite? Not a few guys with cutting torches?
gk10002000 Dynamite is faster, and when a high up Chinese official tells you to get the airline name off there NOW, you do it.
how do u get such awesome graphics on xplane-11
Coming into Kai Tak is very tricky. And hair raising, but, Any landing you walk away from is a safe landing.
how is it that some of the still photos show the tail still attached & some show the tail broken off ? any one else notice that ?
Many years ago, I saw another Kai_Tak video on RUclips, where it was mentioned that the tail was obstructing RWY 13 for safe departures. Being a busy airport, authorities decided to use explosives to blast the tail away under controlled conditions to clear the path for safe departures.
they rremoved the logos because they were ashamed that the plane crashed and ended up in a water so they didnt want bad reputation
At some point during the recovery and salvage operation, the decision was taken to saw off the tail, since it presented a potential obstacle to aircraft on takeoff and climb out. I remember hearing about that on the news a few days after the accident happened. It took several days to move the aircraft away from where it had crashed.
It was removed with dynamite.
If you can consider doing Saudia Flight 163
The first person to do this was allec joshua ibay upload date was February 2 2018
There must be a reason in 3:07 that the reversers were applied right?
Why do you put the reverse thrust while flying
In the pictures of the plane in the water one has the vertical stabilizer missing and one does not, did it fall off later?
Blown off with dynamite due to it interfering with runway signals
The captain just wanted to start his fishing trip early.
I wanna see X-pilot make a video on the Q400 that crashed in SeaTac.
Belief that this occurrence was real is questionable. I saw that plane, saw the Jets much later. Anyone that would have hijacked an aircraft from a International Airport would have been covered by MSM for days. The conversation between the alleged plane stealer and the tower at SeaTac being broadcasted live in real time has never been done. Because it would never be allowed. So I have learned with these kind of FF not to focus on what I see and hear but rather what I don't see, I don't hear.. Perhaps we all need to look at the logic to assess events logically
Quick note here .!! YES I do learn many things from these videos. And not just always about Airplanes . I also pick up how miserable people are ,and switchblade quick to slam or correct someone’s opinion or grammar or whatever. There is some hateful childhoods for some of these people. Bad upbringings, no love or fawk ?? I don’t know . Kool it . Example?? The Learnt or learned thing . Lol Pheeew. Calling Dr Phil. Now watch how quick this gets drilled .!! Lmao . Oh yeah , thanks for the Host & Video . Good stuff HILTS.!!
why were the reversers open during the turn???
I've seen vidoes of planes taking off/landing at Kia Tak, simply insane that they never had a plane fly into a building or into the side of that hill. If I were piloting something huge like that 747 into Kia Tak during a typhoon, I'd seriously be thinking divert to another airport.
Obviously this pilot missed his approach and tried to land the plane anyways instead of going around. If he had gone around again(like he should have) who's to say he would have made the approach the 2nd time? I'm not a pilot, but with winds like that, being less than 1000' from the tops of buildings, I'd be worried about a downdraft pushing the plane too low(there have been several accidents like that, its called a microburst).
The obsession for landing ASAP no matter what is an well-known "illness" called "get-there-itis". That's definitely what was going on in this case.
Aaron Bays jolosx I have to disagree with your assessment. Yes this was pilot error and a go around would have been better but diverting to another airport and doing a go around is not an Aversion for most Airline pilots. It is practiced all the time in training and is not a decision that is resisted. The most common problem may be prompt recognition of go around situations, where pilot corrections to remedy, may not be timely.
Aaron Bays these pilots with lots of hours get complacent!
Pilots with a lot of hours are generally safer and not more likely to be complacent. sometimes you have Airplane, Weather, Airport, ATC instructions all working together to make a tough day where your flying skills appear diminished. Windshear was a factor.
I believe this is the new airport... the old one was the "turn at the checkerboard" airport.
All of the redundant safety systems on the 747 (which was updated and upgraded on the -400 series) and the Captain used manual braking?
Why do some post crash pics show it with vertical stabilizer intact and others mysteriously sheared off???
Dynamited due to it interfering with runway signals
Ouch... to crash such a beautiful plane at just 4 months new!
An hour later, they were hungry again.
HA! :-)

Because he’ll be hungry again in an hour.

very similar accident occured in tahiti, same year, same aircraft model (F-GITA) no one was injured and aircratft could fly again
The captain and first officer just lost their jobs...😂
So did the aircraft. B-165 was recovered, but it was too badly damaged to go back into service, so it was used by HAECO for firefighting training.
And pooped their pants.

@@suzyrottencrotch5132 how do you know?
How did the tail get destroyed after the crash like shown?
how did the engines go into reverse before touchdown ???
3:59 Front landing gear buries itself into the dirt, snapping it off the plane. China Airlines starts getting firmly worded letters about 3-5 business days later.
If you don't have sense at first to take off again, then you attempt a massive U turn at the end of the runway. Yes the plane will tip. But that is preferable to going in the water.
