  • We make hydrochloric acid to strip the tarnish off the brass, then we polish using Blingmaster Aluminator Polish. No sanding involved!

    I think combining acetic acid and sodium chloride produces a minuscule amount of hydrochloric acid. The acid doing the work here is acetic. Household vinegar is mostly water, and dissolving salt in it creates an electrolyte which facilitates transfer of electrons.

      @billybobfudpucker5817 5 лет назад +4

      Well I feel sorry for Cooper. Did you think that he didn't want acid thrown on him? Mate I would be looking dark at you too and very rough. For "COPPER" (sorry for being a spelling bitch but it is one of my OCD habits) the best thing to do is 1/3 vinegar, 1/3 salt, 1/3 flour. Make a paste then cover liberally to the part, wrap in lunch wrap and leave for 24 hours. After that scrub off with warm water and a brush.There will still be a bit of patina but a polish will remove. Don't forget the Copper and Brass are two different materials. Copper is an element and will react to a direct acid. Brass is a mixture of copper and zinc and has corrosion resistance properties. "All that is shiny can not be cleaned the same".

      Everyone knows cola works better on cooper.

  • @rickwilson2848

    I did what he said to a tee in the video and my brass looks like it’s copper in color (litely). I washed it off and then I applied Never-Dull wadding cloth and it turned somewhat back to yellow.
    IS THIS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN????

    • @BradBrassman
      @BradBrassman 8 месяцев назад +3

      No, which is why you shouldnt use the method EVER on anything of value! Its OK for a worthless piece of corroded brass plate as here but the Acid reacts with the alloying ingredients (i.e. 60% copper to 40% zinc of basis brass) and causes the copper to migrate to the surface. These "easy methods" to clean things rarely work so dont forget the old tradesmans adage, "there is no short cut to a lasting and satisfactory job!"

      HCL (also known as muriatic acid in the U.S.) eats away the surface of the metal. The tarnish is a microscopic film that covers the metal fitting. That all what you want to remove. By leaving the metal submerged in the acid will remove more than what you want to take away. I recommend against doing so.

  • @andre1987eph

    You scratched it tho.
    All these RUclips methods scratch the metal.
