I want to see what you all come up with! :D twitter.com/hevesh5
That domino that stood up at the end had me DYING I was laughing SOO HARD... DRAMATIC MUSIC BTW it was really cool that the last domino to fall was the one that stayed standing!
I usually don't find anything interesting in domino tutorials if I am not learning a trick. But this tutorial was really great! I can't believe that you uploaded such a long, 20-minute video that I watched all the way through without even a single interruption! It is really rare to see videos that long that are interesting in their entire content. And when talking about domino videos, it is even stranger, specially considering the amount of work that they need: for example, I posted some months ago a 15-minute screenlink with 145K dominoes that costed me 400 full hours of work XD But in this ocassion, I liked how you made such a lenghty video hilarious and interesting! 8D And I really liked too that it was a collab! I guess that a lot of beginner builders have already had similar experiences to the ones that Audrey had in this video while building. For example, my first walls had the exact same error! Great job to you both! Can't wait to see the other video in which you collaborated 8D I'll say my opinion about each individual trick though. No matter that I have known all those tricks since a lot of years ago, I still learned a few things! Sonimod:A classic one. One of the simplest to build, yet it gives out such an amazing effect. I didn't know how to build the way for placing dominoes at the sides of it, so it was awesome! I remember that Annodomino2007 made a video with that technique a long time ago, and it looked marvelous! The problem with it though is that it doesn't work that well with wooden dominoes because they are a little bit to heavy. In some brands, you need to place the next domino about a half milimeter of distance to the edge in order to make it work, and in others(and homemade dominoes, such as mine) it doesn't work at all. I want to get it to work someday though! Wall: One of the most amazing techniques, it can be built in so many ways. But those two are the most known. I use the column one the most because it falls down slower, can represent messages better, and is more reliable with wooden dominoes. A recomendation though: unless your wall is VERY tall, NEVER use the technique that involves placing a slanted domino at the side! It has a VERY high chance of failing. I once did a half-pyramid chain reaction (like the "SUBS" one in your 1M sub special) using that technique for the end, but it had like 10 breaks XD Split: One of my favourite techniques ever. The effect when falling is just so impressive. Especially with colorchanging dominoes (the majority of my dominoes are colorchanging) 8D To make it work better though, I usually split the two dominoes that are not the triggering one a bit and decrease their angle with the triggering domino: less elegant but more reliable. At least with wooden dominoes. That trick is so useful: for splitting a line in 2, to make split ends, to make a chain reaction just with it, etc. Crossover: It looks great, but it has a problem: as we could see in the final setup it is not that reliable when there are too many dominoes triggering it. And that situation is really frequent. Besides, the dominoes often do not have enough momentum for triggering it. I think that I'll stay with using bridges. But when this trick is used, it makes such a great effect! 90° Turn: I really loved to see it in your 1M sub special. It is one of the most reliable ways to make a turn if you don't have enough space of dominoes for a proper curve, and it looks more interesting. I should switch to it whenever I want to do such a turn. Ending setup: Despite it had a couple of fails, it was still amazing! Most builders' first ever setup is usually a simple line, but this one was really full of tricks! That domino at the end though XD I remember that Sascha/Dominofan0803 made a video of that a while ago. It's rarity depends on the kind of domino. For example, in my dominoes it is rather common: it happens in lots of videos of mine, and sometimes two or even three dominoes fall like that in the same structure XD So as a whole, I really loved this domino tricks tutorials! I liked how you explained those so greatly! I have an idea for a possible next video: watch your old videos, remember the bunch of tricks that you invented in the early times of your channel, and make tutorials of them. Some of them already have, but your early videos aren't as successful in terms of videos as your recent ones. I mean, you should compile all the tricks you've ever invented in a video. So, a question: after finishing college, will you return to make domino videos as regularly as now?
Wow such a long comment, thanks for all the great feedback! Yeah, I try to avoid doing the slanted dominoes for the column technique as much as possible. I can't stand it when people think it failed just because 1 tower didn't fall lol. That's another interesting way to do the split - you're right that it doesn't look AS nice, but does increase reliability - will note that. I should have added to the video that you need to slow down the domino line before it goes into the split. If it goes into the first triangle too fast, it could knock over all 3 dominoes in the direction that it is falling, and miss the next triangle (which is what happened with the setup at the end). Usually some sideways dominoes leading up to a small normal line of about 5 dominoes should be reliable to start the split. Crossovers have been super reliable for me, but yes, you are correct that you can't have too many dominoes triggering it (I usually space them out farther than what was built for the setup at the end. And for extra safety, you could slow down the line too using sideways dominoes). It didn't help that we had to use lampings which are very slippery, causing the top domino on the crossover to fall off. This likely wouldn't happen with bulkdominoes because they have a better non-slip texture. Fun fact: some of the 90 degree turns in my 1M sub special didn't work BECAUSE I didn't put the vertical domino on top. I changed my technique to the one in this video after that fail happened and I experimented some more! I'm not sure what my plans will be after finishing college, but I'll figure it out when the time comes :) Thanks again!
I don't know what I found funnier, the calm music and slow zooms when your friend knocked something over, or that thing at the end with the standing domino xD
I actually learned a few things from this video. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing tbh. Also that last setup is exactly why I will never build sonimod in any project with over 1000 dominoes. Audrey, hope you had fun building dominoes for the first time! You're quite good.
No it's good to learn! Even I learn things watching other domino builders' tutorials. The sonimod fails in the last project were caused by the connection from sonimod back to the normal domino line. You have to lean that domino A LOT for it to work on certain surfaces, otherwise it will just stop in place like it did here. That connection trick works more fluently on more slippery surfaces. After doing this, I think I know how to perfect it for future setups. I'm learning every day!
you rule for watching it all the way through!! *passes cookie* glad you could learn a lot from this, I will definitely be making more tutorials in the future!
Hi 👋 I just started watching your video today after my random search of domino making ideas. I had a box of wooden domino blocks picked up from a local store 3 years ago, when my son was 3. Surprisingly we packed it away and kept safe. But while cleaning up I found it and gave it to my son to stay busy. N boy oh boy he is enjoying now rather than when he was just 3. I’m amazed at your passion and my son is now 6 and half & is glued to your videos and he would like to do the tricks you do. Will keep you posted of his creations and would love to hear from you. Lindsey
Thank you for inspiring me to start dominos I watch every new vidio you make keep up the amzing work I wanna be like you when I'm older I had so much fun trying these
Love this video, it is so helpful!!! My son is 6 and we are just learning Dominoes and the wide world of possibilities that we can explore. Seeing the various tricks and how you set them up really helps us with our designs :) We hope that you will do some more videos like this!
I'm so happy to hear that this helped!! This is exactly why I made this video, to help beginners start out with their designs :) will definitely do more tutorials in the future!
I have watched several of your videos. They are fab. You explain so clearly and your instructions are easy to follow. I am doing this as an activity on my "50 things to do before you're 50" list. I have 1000 dominoes and hope to do a build with some of these tricks in. I now need a bigger table!! What is the best surface to use? Just to practise these tricks with a few dominoes I have been using my desk, but I think it's a bit too slippery. I can't build the sonimod without putting them on paper, which I realise is not a particularly good idea. :)
wow, I didn't know the crossover was actually a technique. I use it a lot. I find it works better if you put a domino laying flat and a domino that it sideways but is still straight with the flat domino. then you can build a loop!
