this is one of the most difficult domino world records to break, so BIG shoutouts our lead tower builders @Stayfawntop, @rollercoaster3freak, and @StickTrickDominoDude! 👏 was definitely a dream project that we will remember forever!
It was an honor being part of the team! This is something I'll never forget. The building itself, the people, the record - just unbelievable. I'm looking forward to seeing where our little hobby will take us next time! 🙌
Ivan, it was an absolute pleasure to have you on the team! thank you for sharing your videography skills and getting all the amazing shots! I’m glad this experience was so memorable for you and I hope we can do another one again next year 😊
Domino builders are the most masochists people ever. They suffer blood and tears and high stress for days just for a few seconds of toppling. Seriously guys I am impressed by such passion. Congrats for the record 🎉🎉
I know, right. I was expecting, based on the title, that a squirrel got into wherever they were and somehow managed to jump/fly into it before they finished.
It was so incredible to work with you all on this project! Literally a dream come true. I really liked how you described the whole process. It helps everyone understand just how difficult it was to pull this off.
I’m so glad you reached out originally! it was great to build with you and have you on the team!! your domino structure building skills are off the charts 🙌 thank you! we livin the dream now :)
I absolutely love that this is basically an art form made of structural failure. When I'm feeling down about humans, I think of things like this and feel better. 🙂 Congratulations to all!
This is my favourite comment! That's what I love most about Domino Art: you are all able to "destroy" what you so painstakingly build. It's like Zen in Dominoes.😊
really happy to hear that! it's tricky to balance the general audience youtube style with what an experienced domino artist would want to see, but I think this one blends them nicely. was so great to have you on the team!
This record is always a dream of mine to break. I really want to break it some day and seeing this now, I am more than impressed at everyone. Good job everyone and to you Lily for Destination Domino 2024. =33
I was so happy to see this post Lily. I wondered what happened when the live streams ended without a conclusion. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video and CONGRATULATIONS on the new world record.
1:50 ooooof that timelapse hwo the tower is moving was both the most amazing as a terrifying shot, still love it nonetheless. What a feat! Well done team! Truly a worthy addition to this event and the location!
I believe there is massive potential in developing a technique that addresses the actual limitations to reaching these heights. Firstly, I don't really get why the towers are usually built wider at the base with this design. I don't think any tower has ever failed from excessive load on the wood or plastic. It's usually due to swaying. 99% of the load is going straight through those vertical "node columns" where the ends of the dominoes sit on top of each other. There's no efficient diagonal load paths to the outside node columns of the structure, which you'd need to stop the swaying. In fact, with the wrong technique (offsetting the dominoes the wrong way), you can actually force load from the outer parts to be transferred to the core instead. Which means that such a structure that is simply stepping out as you go down won't reliably distribute the load to beyond that central pillar at all (or at least it would effectively rely on random variation in the domino placement and be very inefficient). And I believe that the swaying is ultimately caused by the "horizontal" contact plane between dominoes skewing too far from being truly level. Or in other words, with each added layer the contact patches in the node columns will inevitably drift away from being at truly the same height. Which the stepping out doesn't help with at all either. In fact, no tower design I've seen addresses this issue. One very efficient strategy to address the contact plane skew would be to use dominoes with dimensions 1.01x3.00x6.00. That way you can measure how horizontal the contact layers are, and where necessary substitute one 3.00 high domino with a 3.03 high stack of 3 flat ones. 1.01x2.00x4.00 would also work, but the 1:3 ratio has the advantage that you can replace two parallel dominoes in normal orientation with 3 alternating flat layers. And paradoxically, intentionally making the contact surface very subtly bowl-shaped would help too. That way a node that is too high has dominoes meet at a more perfect angle, which means the next node will be exactly 3.00 units higher. A node that is too high has dominoes meet at a more skew angle, which lifts the node up more than 3.00 units. The nodes at the edges will also always rise 3.00 units with each layer. That's why I chose to make the alternate orientation be _thicker_ than dominoes in the standard orientation, so that ocassionally incorporating them at the edges makes the edges lift about as much as an interior node with an average contact surface curvature. The .01 extra thickness (or .03 for a whole 3-stack) is just a guess and would need to be optimized to give you a suitable bowl shape. Oh and also, if you're using scissor lifts in a building with balconies around the build area, it might make sense to anchor the scissor lifts to those balconies with ropes to stop them from swaying.
A scissor lift that is going up cannot be ancored. It is while they are being elevated the sway happens. Thank you for the text book on verticle domino construction. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
@@johnblyth9787 You're not completely wrong. Scissor lifts that need to move can't be _permanently_ anchored. But there's nothing keeping you from untying the ropes, moving the lift (down and back up, or just a few inches up) and then re-tying the anchor ropes.
I wish to say to all involved, Congratulationsssssssssssssssss. 33 feet 3 inches is not to be sneased at. In fact a snease is undesirable. I bet this record will stand for many years. When i seen the title of video I thought a wild squirel knocked it over. Thank you for the entertainment.
Absolutely amazing, it's so cool to see this record be broken after such a long time! Great job to everyone involved in the planning and building, and the editing was super well done too, I love how the final video ended up :)
This is why I have a love/hate relationship with squirrels. While they are cute, they demolish everything! Also, congrats on the world record! Hope you guys can get much higher in the future. Now about those squirrels...
OH MAN! I LOVE your channel and I LOVE the National Building Museum, what a great combination! Wish I could've gotten down to see you all in action. Congratulations on an awesome record!
I have watched you for a DECADE now (i'm now 14) and im glad to see one of my favorite youtubers still making videos for more than 10 years now !! ❤🎉 and i csnt even trust my shaky hands to make such a tall tower like thatt 😂😅

To build a domino tower THAT high requires EXTREMELY steady hands, probably like that of a brain surgeon, especially at the topmost region. :)
That was awesome I love the project/ keep it up
It seems like some dominoes with high-precision profiles would be useful for such efforts. (keeping the layers flat and level)
Congratulations 🎉

Am I the only one disappointed that it wasn’t a real squirrel 😂
ChatGPT needs to make a story about a 3.8 earthquake toppling these towers right at the world record
even stacked dominoes don’t fall at free fall speeds. makes you wonder how the twin towesr were able to do that.
