I just got the borealis luxe backpack and it’s kinda similar to the recon and I used to have a Jester backpack till 7th grade but I needed more space so I upgraded to a bigger one that I can use for college too. I’m a junior in high school.
The old version of the recon from 2012 had a full length admin compartment. I didn't like it as much because I would tend to add too much stuff there and the bag would become hard to carry. The shorter Admin Pocket is on the newer models and I do think it works a bit better. Great Video!
Update: I just had my first day of junior year, and I will just say this: This bookbag is an honest 6/10 because it holds an unimpressive amount of things, like i had two binders(one 1-1/2 inch and one 2-inch), two 180 page notebooks, a book, skinny folder, and my pencil pouch on top, and I literally could not fit anything else more.... Which is VERY disappointing. Also, I did have some other small things in other compartments but that is the standard. However, after everything was stored, I could barely fit my water bottle on the outside(32oz), which is kind of concerning because this was supposed to be a hiker bookbag after all.... Overall the recon capacity size was a major design flaw with it supposedly being 30 liters. I recommend if you are a light carrier but if you have some tough classes that require more materials no. Another thing before I end this: I said the recon was great in terms of convenience but that turned out to be false. I usually slip in my phone easily in the side pocket but with this I literally have to squeeze it in sometimes taking off the entire bag to do so. I will let you all know more after I break down this bag a little more. Thank you! Ps: everything with the protection and comfort is still accurate. When I said I "literally could not fit anything else", I meant in the main compartment where it's supposed to hold all that stuff. I still luckily have wiggle room in other areas like the very front pocket and that little organizational compartment.
Hey! Just a few tips: I do think this is truly a 30 liter bag, I compared it with some of my other 30 liter bags. You have to take into account that this bag is narrower and taller, so you'll have to basicaly pack things on top of each other
@@groberti Yeah I can definitely see this bag working for traveling because you aren't occupying too much space with big supplies like binders and notesbooks and such; you can't really stack those.
I was literally about to purchase this exact same backpack. Then, I saw your updated honest review and now I’m hesitant. I think I’ll stick with the Lululemon Command the day backpack instead. It looks more spacious. ❤
Did you end up getting a better bag after this one? I was planning to get the recon, but now I dont think it'll work out. Do you have any ones youd recommend besides this one?
Hey I would appreciate if someone replies. I am planning to buy the North face Surge backpack which is a bit bigger than the Recon and it is priced at 179.99 CAD for reference. I am also planning to buy this backpack for junior year, do you think this is a good idea in terms of quality and space to fit things inside?
I recommend watching some credible surge review videos on RUclips. I just watched a few and to me, I do not think it is worth it... it is only a few liters larger and it's pretty much the same design just with different external pockets that you may find more better fit for you. I don't really have enough detail to decide for you though because I don't know how much stuff you plan to store in your bookbag. I would take a look at the jansport odyssey, I almost got that one because it was a solid build in terms of durability and comfortability; it is also 39 liters. Hope this helped
I was only able to fit in three 1½-inch binders...which is considerably tighter than my older bookbag. I would alos note that if you put things in other pockets it messes with space in the main pocket...other than that it depends how much stuff you bring to school. Since I will mainly be using my laptop, a 2-inch binder, 1½-inch binder, pencil pouch, a text book or two, and some notebooks(which I will store in the binders) I think the recon will fit me fine...but if you are taking up to 4 or 5 binders to school plus everything I just mentioned, this bookbag is NOT for you. In fact, I would definitely see this as a commuter bag more than a school bag after i have used it since uploading this video. Overall, it is whatever floats your boat. It is very supportive though in terms of carrying on your back and "heavy-duty". Hope I helped!

I am so glad my updated review helped you! Hope the lulu lemon one works out.
08:37 fun fact that top buckle also acts like an emergency whistle
I did not realize that, thank you!!
I love that color so much. How has it gone being able to keep it clean so far?
Just wanted to share if you are a student you get 20% off! You need to verify your student status but it’s worth it!
Thank you!
I need an update on this bag lol. I've been debating getting this color but I'm hesitant. Did you notice it getting dirty quickly?
