Just an observation but if we know that Whiting are so hard to put back why do people drag them a hundred yards up a beach before unhooking them? Surely it would be better for the fish if you walked to the waters edge and lifted the fish rather than drag them up? I know I don't drag any fish up like that to try my best to avoid damaging them regardless of size or species.

    • @theawfulangler

I always think it has to be crystal clear for lures to work. So usually that means rock marks or shingle beaches where there's little-no sand to get stirred up. Not sure I've ever been on a sandy beach in the UK that's stayed calm enough to be clear haha

I used to get bass on lures about 20 years ago in that area, needed to have a surf & not as coloured water as in this session, i used to fire them out clipped down on beachesters with a 4oz lead and sometimes i would use lugworm but as a lure, sounds crazy but if the bass are in you could snag quite a few, i did see a kid with a cheap £10 spinning rod catch a 9lb bass off Skegness 10 yards out on a spinner! we would shoot the lures at angles along the beach they could be in that close! Huttoft bank was good for bass too on lures! Conditions needed to be right, that was the main thing.
