- At some moments the process feels never ending. I hope that this whole process serves as an illustration of why we generally "don't do lightweight."

We thank you for crafting these thoughtful and educational videos.
That is the lines that just bring that smile to your face make it giggle a little
Happy weekend canyon chums!
Ace video! thanks Mr C👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Very impressive, great tuning✌
Love the Meatloaf reference!!
Get well soon buddy.
The artful dodgers ULV transmission is only 40g! If your looking to shave that 20g
I’m Using the pro skid on pro rails , but putting an Amazon dig, and going to try out my first out runner system,I’m putting a rhino 80a and 1450kv out runner. Going to have to make a plate like you did for the transmission. I did build 105mm dravtech clones but they are leaking even after all the traxxas inerds, might try lizards, looking good.
Great video Mr C, the pro gets better every time he gets on the rocks and does the thing. Get yourself a hat with a mosquito net and wear long sleeve cause those skeeders are just gonna keep eatin on ya.
Couple things. Have you thought about removing every other bead lock screw? And you considered cutting the windows out of the body to help reduce the noise?
Did on the rear wheels, the fronts are five bolt so they'd fall apart-- the front outer screws are some odd pitch (they tried to clone Vanquish, down to the Imperial hardware) and snap pretty easily, so I doubt the durability with half of them gone. I want to replace the front wheels, I just haven't found what to replace them with yet.
It's not obsession, it's optimization. That's how I justify things to myself, anyway. The tinkering is the best part of the hobby. Here's a dumb idea to make it lighter - stuff a helium-filled bladder under the body. How much of the original kit will be left by the end, do you reckon?
(not a lightweight convert) the last 5 minutes of the video would disagree with that statement :) I did not see the frame chop coming at all, but i do understand. I am not sure i would lose more weight out of the rear, down hill really light getting close to the tipping point. If there is holes to maybe lean front shocks back more to soften just a little, and front foam looks like it might be wanting a softer one or xhx if they have softer foam. hmm did a straight axle, now maybe a portal wasp waist flyweight ? A very enjoyable build series
The foams springs are both getting too stiff now, and I don't really have anywhere softer to go, other than trying to lean the shocks even more. Everything is starting to feel over-damped now as well, with so little sprung weight trying to transfer.
Man, seeing how your custom pieces look, mine are terrible 🤣 They do the thing tho
Performance looks pretty good but a little added weight would help.
Just imagine how good the Zoku Gent could be without that 300 gram 10 gear vfd twin, that comes out to 519 grams/1.1 pounds of sprung weight with the fusion pro in it lol.
I used the lightweight upper gear, stubby, and 540m, and it went from 518.9 grams down to 363.1 grams. Then the carbon zoku rails vs aluminum zoku rails, carbon is 60 grams per rail, aluminum is 110 grams per rail. So carbon zoku rails sheds another 100 grams of sprung weight. I cut almost a full pound of sprung weight off my Zoku Phoenix. Also swapped a low profile servo in it.
Then the titanium links is another huge weight loss path. Stock VRD carbon links are 152 grams. Hardcore titanium links are 85 grams.
You could also de-case your reciever and conformal coat it, or put some plastic or rubber over it, to shed a little more. So many options lol
The Phoenix/VRD/etc, are not, IMO, desirable platforms to flyweight. The VFD is a fantastic gearbox, and made that much better by putting a Fusion Pro in it (no gearbox mounts the motor lower) so basically, if it has a VFD, it's going to be heavier than something that doesn't but it's also going to have the weight where you want it anyway-- low, and in the center. The 10 Pro has an gearbox that should be replaced immediately, even if no other changes are made to the Pro-- the stock gearbox and skid in the Pro is 270g, so box you swap in will shave +100g.
The Pro is the perfect axle/rails to build around for flyweight, as the axles are modular and the rails are CHEAP. I've seen as low as $13 a pair, less than 40g per rail. Axle components (including knuckle weights) are often under $20.
Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!
Could you cut every other spoke on the rims to save weight? I don’t know if it’s dumb or not but it’s an idea
Have u considered angling the skid and removing the excess chassis from the rear to gain better break over. I’m considering doing mine in the near future. Thoughts please
Looking at it, there's also room to put the skid further forward. It sits so low, that it's real weakness is breakover, so something will be done at some point. I can't see any meaningful changes being done to the stock chassis geo, so it would be new rails, so AFAIC, something for another build. The higher waist would end up adding weight (most likely) so this guy is gonna have to use his slipperiness to offset a (literally) clunky mid-section.
Mr. C - how many decibels can be reduced cutting the front side windows out of the body plus further shaving of grams…. Very small, but…
You need to look up my buddy man big kid tiny truck ESC he's got the really super thin 50 amp
When you're doing cg calculation do you take tire squish in the tire radius equations
Not in the name of pseudoscience. The rigs are all fitted with dampers and not analogs as well, so the numbers are "in the neighborhood." Purely comparative numbers. If everything gets weighed the same, the measurements within the group are relevant-- like weighing with one link position and then immediately with another, I can see changes. As to ultimate accuracy, unlikely.
@@CrawlerCanyon thanks you
I would love to come hang out with you bro and just kick it and work on cars
Howdy!
450 3s, xt30 plugs, trim the leads and direct solder motor to esc. That's 100 grams, easy.
That's 50 grams... but doesn't mean I'm ruling any of it out. Gotta get under 2000 somehow.
@@CrawlerCanyon ❤️
i wonder how or if it affects his run time on Mavericks - He is lighter and more nimble
Almost certainly worse. The slightly heavier configuration he was in when he made his run was absolutely bouncing all over the place. The top 3 are all over 7 pounds.
How many spiderwebs must a man walk through before he calls you back?
I wouldn't touch it let's do it so good that I mean really I could see you on the shave that other 80 grams or whatever but like if it's doing that damn good it's ready to rock
Yo
Now when you're talking about a kilo that is 2.2 lb right
I know you don't like the body..... maybe go to a cab only? I realize that body is already pretty light but you could also remove the rear mounts and shave a little more carbon off of the rails..... plus it would look better. 🤓
i need to fix mine its been broke since december but i dont really like the pro
You gotta make it less Pro. At first, I didn't much care for it either.
@CrawlerCanyon I may do that I only done the carbon chassis ..treal wheels and rupture tires 60g powerhd servo and a fusion pro.... stocks shocks all ways pop and gearbox broke on second time using it
Thirtyth like
What happened to a kilo of wheelos 🤔
Can't build a lightweight with a kilo o' wheelos. This whole rig is 2kg. Lightweight is too expensive to do regularly, but I should have at least one in the fleet. So that's this guy.
😄
The lighter you get the more tricky it becomes to find/tune the perfect tire inserts
German Wrcca PScale top drivers run 1.8kg rigs including a 4S 4-650mAH Battery
My VRD is rtr at 2.3kg including 360g added weight to the axles😊
Very serious question are you ever going to show your face on camera
If I ever find an instance where that would be relevant to the content, sure. But It's never happened before, and I seriously doubt it's going to happen in the future.
