Your approach to editing has really changed my whole outlook on editing. I used to make things so complicated, naming masks, trying to get everything done in as few adjustments as possible, doing absolutely nothing organically. Now, I move a couple of sliders globally, then hit the K key as many times as I need to, making small adjustments each time until I like what I am looking at. Let it sit, look at it again, press the K key a few more times and post. Really great approach.

Well... I thooought I knew PS well but this is the reason I love to watch the techniques of others. I, too, often cannot see the forest for all those big green things in the way. lol I began with PS 7 years ago and love the ease and refinements in our modern versions but I still make it far more complicated a work flow than is often necessary. Masking in a multitude of layers AFTER creating various exposures in camera raw leads one down a time-consuming path, indeed. You already know where this is going... Even old dogs can learn new tricks! I just so happen to have fresh raw files from last night to go play with now. By the way, the advice about allowing one's post-processed images "rest/simmer" a while is excellent, for we can often return later and discover discrepancies with fresh eyes that weren't apparent on the first pass.

Thanks. The final 10% or so is generally going to be more brightening and darkening and potentially tweaking saturation either up or down. But this takes a few visits over the file for me personally. I could never get the best result in 1-2 sittings. I can get it close but not complete.

Thanks - I also like Adobe Landscape as the profile. I have Lightroom set up to apply that profile, along with lens profile corrections and remove chromatic aberrations, when I import photos. Does it automatically and fast.

Thanks a lot mate, I'm glad to hear the channel is helping you. Definitely hardf when you can't afford the software. Adobe does have discount pricing for students, you should look into that. You want the Photography package (without additional cloud storage). This is roughly $20NZD per month, from memory. The student discount should then that back decently.

Nice explanation Will for simple effective processing , do you still take two images for the highlights and one for the shadows then stack them ? Or is it not necessary with the new models of cameras coming out recently with much better dynamic range ? And of course the more powerful tools now available in ACR / Light Room and Photoshop it’s a big help in post processing ! Thanks for these helpful suggestions and videos you share with everyone ! Very rare for me to need to blend two exposures, mainly because the dynamic range in modern sensors is so good. Sometimes I’ll take the seperate shadow/highlight exposures in the field just to be safe, but I never need them anyways. Perhaps if you want a slow shutter on water flow but the sky is way too bright, then it’s still useful. Really appreciate the kind words and support!

That’s what I suspected with these new camera sensors now , that’s a huge improvement as it’s quite a lot of processing with those double exposures which if you not that proficient with your skills it makes photography processing off putting to some people .
