@@kirkbagliadrums yea man I always listen to triad almost everyday since I discovered Tool 5 yrs ago, and the drums man, it never gets old! I really want to learn this but seems too complicated for a total beginner lol
The great Swiss army triplet is right. I’m a decently advance drummer. And I can just now cognitively understand tool. I haven’t even put these ideas to a kit yet. But damn I can’t wait. I’m with you bro.
M Gonzalez I think this is my favorite comment ever lol. This song is so empowering. Being behind the kit and playing this even in my basement I feel like a superhuman
Why is Triad one of the greatest drum solos of all time? Not to mention everything else because it is all soo well put together. Danny Carey is definitely one of my favorite drummers of all time.
@@lukemidgley8581 only thing that gets me are toms bc I can't hear them well enough in most songs to differentiate between toms. Then I usually cheat and look up concert videos to see what they're doing.
No idea why you do not have more subscribers. This is the first performance I've seen by Spiral Out and I have to say, I think you did a great job with this cover. With pretty much any other drum cover, I'd be on the lookout for some more originality and flair from the one covering the song (I know, that's quite pretentious), but considering the fact that it's Danny Carey we're talking about, "simply" being able to cover his style is awesome enough. Brilliant work, man.
Syed Hasan thanks for the kind words man. And I totally agree about the flair lol. I’m pretty new to RUclips so I’m definitely trying to get myself out there. I just did a cover of Chocolate Chip Trip from TOOL’s new album for that exact reason. I’d love for you to check it out on my channel
4:42 Forgive me if I'm mistaken but isn't there supposed to be a 3 16th note double bass gallop under that? Like Danny does here m.ruclips.net/video/2dwxTd5JZ50/видео.html at around 6:45. Maybe I just didn't hear it
Been trying to learn this song for the past week. Easily my favorite drum track of all time. Any tips on the swiss triplets? I've been told you are supposed to lead with your left hand on the pattern but I've seen danny carey lead with his right and it feels more comfortable leading with right for me. Thanks! Great cover.
@judah First thing I’d focus on is how the time signatures overlap in this song. Triad can be felt in either 3/4 or 6/8 depending on which instrument you play haha. Guitar and bass definitely have a 6/8 feel, while the drums- especially the feet, are solidly grooving in 3/4. Although one measure in both time signatures starts and ends at the same, the feel is totally different. Listen intently and pick out the half-time “ONE-TWO-THREE” vs. the faster “ONE-two-three-FOUR-five-six” (accented beats in all caps). This will help give some much needed context to the Swiss army triplets.
And to get the actual answer to your question, it is definitely a right hand lead. However IMO people tend to get too technical when trying to replicate Danny’s drumming. Yes, he is technically doing Swiss triplets, but I find it much more beneficial and far less robotic to think of it as just doing double strokes on each hand, offset by an 8th note. This is helpful for when the hands start moving around the toms. Best thing that helped me with these was putting on a slow 3/4 metronome and being mindful that though it’s a triplet pattern, it’s played as a 16th note subdivision. Go slow and try not to accent anything in the hands. You’ll begin to notice how the spots where both hands hit together sort of have a naturally accented sound without intentionally playing them louder, and form a natural polyrhythm with the 3/4 quarter note. THAT is the feel you want for this groove, and that’s what Danny is all about! Long winded, but I hope that helps!
Dooood!! that's just awesome, just a quick question, I'm struggling with that hand pattern on the 4:42 - 5:06 min, I understand the triplets on the right hand, but I get stuck mixing it with the left hand, can you share with me the whole right-left hand pattern. Thanks so much bro, you're a Beast!!
This was actually a senior project from when I was in audio school. We had a set number of performers in the group before we decided to perform TOOL, so we ended up with 3 guitar players lol.
Ha. I realized my shoulders were tensed up the listening to this and this is totally the reason why. Amazing how important small things can sometimes be.
im not a drummer, but triad’s drumming really makes me want to learn drums and play it goddamn
Haha I feel ya man. sooo much fun getting lost in the rhythms on this one. It’s never too late to learn!

you guys sound amazing btw and it would be such a pleasure to see you guys live.
Danny is the absolute GOAT
danny would be proud
Been drumming 20 years and still have no idea how people can memorise this kind of stuff and work it out from listening
Endless repetition until it’s muscle memory. If I actually had to think about what’s coming next, I probably wouldn’t remember lol

Man, those are some well made drums sticks! Well done. Take the W and walk away Sir! Cheers
Yo this has to be the best cover. Exactly how Daney played live. To pull that off takes skill, time and patience. Bravo 👏
It really isn't exactly the way Danny play's it but its still impressive.
This is an absolute banger of a video!! You are well underrated my man!
You did stupendously.
Thank you!
Nothing and I mean nothing. Beats this song when your 3 hours into an acid trip losing your fucking mind. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
