By birth I am a Sinhalese born and raised in SL till I was 14 yo and migrated in 2007 due to war, associated atrocities of the government, economic turmoil and lack of opportunity. I can’t imagine the struggle my Tamil brothers and sisters went through to become recognised as Sri Lankans in their own fkn country and those of you who continue to still struggle! my father fought in this war almost died like 4 times. the closest he's ever been to death is when his company's(sorry I don't know English word for it) first deployment. he was 5 mins late which the group leader left without him and he had check in late. he told me that he sat there for 20 min to report. shortly after he gets the news that his squad jeep was blown up with everyone dead inside. turns out the ltte was waiting for a armored column of fresh new tanks and armored vehicles to pass a bridge on which they were a day late and my father squad got caught up in.

my father fought in this war almost died like 4 times. the closest he's ever been to death is when his company's(sorry I don't know English word for it) first deployment. he was 5 mins late which the group leader left without him and he had check in late. he told me that he sat there for 20 min to report. shortly after he gets the news that his squad jeep was blown up with everyone dead inside. turns out the ltte was waiting for a armored column of fresh new tanks and armored vehicles to pass a bridge on which they were a day late and my father squad got caught up in.

The vellala r a tamil caste who form 50% of the population of tamils in northern SL. The LTTE was comprised largely of lower caste non-vellalas and they had risen up primarily against the tamil vellalas, who had been oppressing them for centuries.
The goyigama are the sinhala counterpart of the vellalas. You all think that 'sinhala and tamils r enemies'.
But goyigama and vellala are thick friends! The goyigama r the most powerful people in sinhala, and rule the land. The goyigama were attacking the lower caste tamil uprising (i.e., LTTE) on behalf of the vellala tamils!!
