    "What would you people say if you found out the FBI or CIA operated like this?" I was a US Marine. Can say, with confidence, that this would absolutely happen. This is government work at its finest. It would not surprise me in the slightest if I found out the Alphabet agencies were like this. I remember five or so years ago, there was a special DEA detail along with Air Force doing counternarcotic operations in Colombia that got busted for having cocaine parties complete with hookers. I don't care what anyone says, the Austin Powers films are legendary. Mike Myers is a master of physical comedy. Every character is iconic. They're a perfect marriage of British and American comedy, yet it never panders to either audience.
    Austin Powers is a (kinda) British institution that played a major role in the development of my taste in comedy (although I was deffo too young to be watching them) and it's not even about the sexual aspect of the comedy for me, it's the character work, referential, spoof and physical comedy, and for all of that, Mike Myers is a (kind of) national treasure.

But the character is directly based on Derek Flint from _Our Man Flint,_ a spy-comedy film, and Harry Palmer from a more seriously toned 1960s spy film series staring Michael Caine. To enjoy the AP franchise to the fullest, I recommend Our Man Flint, In Like Flint, the Roger Moore Bond films (especially Moonraker) and Casino Royale (1967).

    • @stuartspencer2161

      I would say these are more relevant to Sean Connery's Bond, than Moore's, especially with the parodies of Dr. No, Goldfinger, etc.... and the judo chop. A movie with a good parody at the ridiculousness of the Moonraker idea is Machete Kills.

    Fun facts: Dr. Evil was originally going to be played by Jim Carrey. And Random Task is in prison in real life. He actually killed someone after this movie was filmed.

    it's funny to see which pats of the ling you find strange, which you understand. Meyers worked in UK TV and picked up a lot of Britishisms, which he uses liberally in this film. The word shag was unknown in the pre-Austin Powers US.

  • @Xanderj89
    @Xanderj89 2 года назад

    I wonder if that does have a name, I see those gags in a lot of absurdist humor or sketch comedy, like the Monty Python stuff, where just a random real moment is used as a subversion of expectations. People slip off chairs, people awkwardly laugh, but you don't expect to see that in a structured film and it throws you for a loop, and it doesn't necessarily need to be slapstick or humors in of itself (but it's a plus)
