    13 days until my wife and I go to Rome! We’re so excited. I’ve been using iTranslate to practice some common phases as well. I agree that learning some basic words/phases makes the experience so much better. Love the video!

    I came back after 1.5 weeks and my personal tip is to roam around a bit then find a place that gets busy around 1-1:30 pm for lunch, and 8-8:30 (like she said) for dinner where most, if not all of the customers are italian. Personally, I wasn't disappointed. And yeah i learned basic italian which came in super handy.
    Also, if you feel like the food is taking a long time... just wait it out. 99% of the time, they haven't forgotten.. the food comes out as it comes out. If a table came before you, and got their primi before you have, just.. be patient. It's not like the US where generally food comes out in order. They do a remarkably good job of remembering orders even if it looks like they haven't written anything down.
    Lastly.. this might be a weird one but don't expect a 360 degree change in demeanor or politeness just because you spoke some italian. Yes they're friendlier to their own, but I've noticed their manners aren't enormously different towards the locals. Unless you're in a fine dining establishment, the service is a balance of politeness with deft and semi-curt efficiency. Sure I've had enough friendly all smiles servers but that wasn't always the case.

    Hello, My wife and I will be traveling to Rome in the middle of April 2024. This has been my wife's dream vacation for years. While there, we will be celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary. Can you suggest a place for dinner that serves traditional local cuisine. Also, how do we schedule a food tour with you? P.S. We absolutely love all your videos. Very helpful.

    What an utterly charming woman. I have travelled to Italy many a time and I promise you that this is very good advice, especially you must never go to the main square in a city or a busy town which are rip-offs in general. As is suggested here, go to a place where there is no English on the menu and you will get the real thing. This is going to sound a little preachy, but when you are a guest in another country (and that is what you are as a tourist) the very least you can do is learn a few words and phrases in the language. That said, my Italian is so appalling I once very nearly ate horse (which in Ireland, where I come from, and the horse is virtually worshipped, this would be worse than eating your grand-mother). I was only saved from this sacrilege by the lovely waiter, whose English was even worse than my Italian, doing a really good impression of a horse neighing. Please share this very excellent site with any friends who are thinking of travelling to this, in my opinion, the loveliest country in Europe.

    • @StayFabulousTL
      @StayFabulousTL  7 месяцев назад +2

      Haha! Thank you for sharing! While you are learning the language - these kind of things are unavoidable. When I was 19 and just learning Italian, I was searching for hairdryer (internet hardly existed at that time.) I asked a waiter where can I find a hairdryer in Rome and he sent me to a helmet market. Spent an hour trying to find a hairdryer in a motorcycle helmet market...🤦‍♀️
