What I like about Lucifer blacks is that they don’t look like soldiers from the war hammer universe. They look like future sci-fi soldiers. I saw one piece of unofficial art, it made them look similar to pilots from Titian fall. I like how they have a pre imperium almost dark age of tech feel.

It's a design language that's so _alien_ to Warhammer. These guys are NOT messing around. No self-aggrandizing insignias or decorations. No over-the-top guns or beautifully sculpted armor. Just the best of the best technology that humanity can still produce, being wielded by a person who's only goal is to put you down.
I love it when lore trains the most badass guys…to be house guards and bodyguards… like delta force doesn’t do that, we have marines for that. The enemy is supposed to make it that far
I think these guys fit as the escorts and default mortal army for the custodians. Think about it. Custodian by default are above any rank in the imperium as they themselves are considered the emperors will made manifest. Yes they are the one man army of one man armies but there are some minor things they cannot do alone and with only 10,000 of them it might be too expensive or risky to send 5 or 6 at once but a regiment or two of LBs would more than be sufficient to help speed things along. Better than the sisters of silence just because of their rarity.

The Romans had the Pretorian Guard, The Byzantin Empire had the Varangian Guard (Vikings who entered the Service of the Emperor, because Vikings where badass) even the King of France had a Royal Guard with the best Warriors at his side. Elite Units became first A Thing in Late WW 1, and then again in WW 2, in the sense as we understand elite units. And how do they gain experience unless they go out and fight or are all veterans of other regiments

They aren't on the frontlines often so it makes sense that they've had the opportunity to recruit and rebuild their numbers, even after their temporary disbanding after the War of the Beast.
Lucifer blacks dont recruit the same as normal guard regiment, yes while they do recruit alot from the sol system they also recruit promising proginas and elite soldiers across the galaxy simmilar to kasarkin

Space Marines go through a long and tedious creation process that starts when they’re children and ends by the time they’re young adults. Suffice to say that this group of elite Guardsmen are generally outside of that window.
Try thinking the space marines as shoguns, the custodians as bazukas and the human elite squad as snipers , which one have a diferent funcion like gear in a machine.
Yeah, no. I refuse to believe that the personal guards of the Emperor, a station only shared by the Custodes and Sisters of Silence, would be outfitted with basic Flak armor. It's either Carapace or Power Armor. Whoever said it was Flak needs their brain given a solid reboot with a backhand.
@@alternas7195 That's not how that works. First of all we're not talking about flak jackets we're talking about Flak armor it is a specific type of body armor the guard wears. The typical green hard armor plates you see regular Guardsmen wearing. That's Flak. You're not wearing that under anything.

Technically there are whole hosts of under armour you can wear underneath as well. While in game the effects don't stack, you take the best modifier for a location iirc. So you try getting armour that do different things, protects against different things. Also, there's Flak Armour and there's Master Crafted, Highest Quality Flak Armour. This would definitely be the latter. These guys come in the millions I assume, and are the mass mobile defenders. They don't want to be held down by super heavy armor.

Good. Glad to hear the Lucifer Blacks are on their way back up. Reading about them in Legion, they seemed pretty terrifying and absolutely badass. But I never really heard about them again after that. Glad to hear they weren't just flat out 'ended' like some units were.
One is mentionned in Blood games, where he gives actual trouble to a named and very efficient Custodes. to my knowledge it's the last time they were mentionned, as Abnett never brought them back.
@hatartshop1098 for a while I actually thought the LB were going to be how Commissars were eventually added to the Astra Militarum. This elite, highly trained force deployed in small numbers within Guard units, outside the chain of command and dedicated to making sure things don't go 'awry' or drift from Imperial beliefs.

Unfortunately it's the same reason we don't see more Custodes everywhere, too damn expensive. Their gear is so crazy good it also takes a bit to make, plus their training is costly, many don't survive and problems in 40K tend to escalate drastically so when the Astra Militarum can't beat something the Astartes almost always get sent to help since if THEY can't handle the problem the planet's usually considered lost at that point.

I think it'd be great to have an M35-36 Lucifer Black story. Something somewhere between Ciaphas Cain and Gaunts Ghosts would be a neat tonality for the LB's as they won back their reputation.
Honestly, I like how the most elite of the normal humans look most similar to modern soldiers, while the custodes look like the popular image of medieval knights. It's a nice contrast.
These were also the dudes the Harlequins were one shotting during the war of the beast, but the author writing the book didn’t understand the difference between these guys and the Custodes, so he wrote Custodes, and apparently no one who did know the difference proofread the book
Im surprised they dont still wear void armor which the old Solar Auxilia wear with special formations of power armored units and even more elite formations wearing human-sized terminator armor(i mean terminator armor was originally human sized anyway)
I'd want to know what would happen if a Lucifer Black fought a standard Astartes. Is it a moment of "victory, but a difficult one", or is it a "oh shit, a regular human is going toe to toe with a transhuman" due to their equipment and training. Or is it closer to "The astartes wins, but at a cost", like so many elite non-transhumans fighting transhumans normally goes.
It's canon, they only appear in blood games and Legion, but they abstolutely kick ass, they were on the decline after the heresy though. They are absolut monsters, one managing to slip past and stab alpharius, drawing blood, at the end of legion.
The only regular humans that can fight a space marine 1v1 in close combat and win. They should really get a model, be part of the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence as Talons of the Emperor.
This explains a LOT about why a Custodian was wary (not worried per say) about infiltrating a place with one of these guys in the guard. (Granted, he was backed by a lot of other guys too)
Honestly, why even have super augmented Humans at this point. Just give Humans Auramite power armor, bolters, and a power sword. Only augment needed is the black carapace.

I don't even PLAY tabletop, I just collect the models because 40k stuff looks really good on the empty section of shelving I've got next to my Halo and Star Wars sections. A Little Correction on the Armor Part, in the books i Read the Lucifer Blacks got the armor there Patrons gave them, after they are Super elite Units they mostly get Power Armor, Depenting on the Planet and the Rules, they use Carapace armor or Flak armor, or when there is an other Good reason. Like just visiting an other lord, when you show up in Full Force with heavy armor and heavy weapons that could be taken as Aggression, because Power armor is often more used on Battlefields, while anything below that could serve as a Prestige thing on parties so you know that he is a Solder/warrior ect. it is the same Reason why you would not see a Knight in IRL with a Full plate armor at a Feast maby just the brestplate but that was it.

Every time GW come up with some super elite human, I always think, If these guys are so awesome, why aren't they Space Marines?
Because they’re not children still and thus can’t go through indoctrination like normal Astartes also for the space marines organs surgery’s to be successful it’s best to be done on young boys so I guess Lucifer blacks are people who could have been great astartes but we’re not picked up by any chapter
They are waiting to try and become custodians.
Space Marines go through a long and tedious creation process that starts when they’re children and ends by the time they’re young adults. Suffice to say that this group of elite Guardsmen are generally outside of that window.

Try thinking the space marines as shoguns, the custodians as bazukas and the human elite squad as snipers , which one have a diferent funcion like gear in a machine.
Yeah, no. I refuse to believe that the personal guards of the Emperor, a station only shared by the Custodes and Sisters of Silence, would be outfitted with basic Flak armor. It's either Carapace or Power Armor. Whoever said it was Flak needs their brain given a solid reboot with a backhand.

@@alternas7195 That's not how that works. First of all we're not talking about flak jackets we're talking about Flak armor it is a specific type of body armor the guard wears. The typical green hard armor plates you see regular Guardsmen wearing. That's Flak. You're not wearing that under anything.
@@ThatGuyOrbyaccording to the roll playing games you're wrong. Flak jackets can be worn outside the armor, think commissars jackets. Technically there are whole hosts of under armour you can wear underneath as well. While in game the effects don't stack, you take the best modifier for a location iirc. So you try getting armour that do different things, protects against different things.
Also, there's Flak Armour and there's Master Crafted, Highest Quality Flak Armour. This would definitely be the latter. These guys come in the millions I assume, and are the mass mobile defenders. They don't want to be held down by super heavy armor.

It’s so dumb that somehow a lucifer stabs alpharius, like I get there good but the power scaling makes no sense for apharius to then go toe to toe with dorn like 10 years later

I kinda want to build an army thats meant to represent the lucifer blacks/solar auxilia, using imperial guard and mostly utilizing kitbashed scions and kasarkin. Idk if thatd be good, but it would be fun to have a guard army thats wierdly elite for guard.

Good. Glad to hear the Lucifer Blacks are on their way back up. Reading about them in Legion, they seemed pretty terrifying and absolutely badass. But I never really heard about them again after that.

One is mentionned in Blood games, where he gives actual trouble to a named and very efficient Custodes. to my knowledge it's the last time they were mentionned, as Abnett never brought them back.
@hatartshop1098 for a while I actually thought the LB were going to be how Commissars were eventually added to the Astra Militarum. This elite, highly trained force deployed in small numbers within Guard units, outside the chain of command and dedicated to making sure things don't go 'awry' or drift from Imperial beliefs.

Unfortunately it's the same reason we don't see more Custodes everywhere, too damn expensive. Their gear is so crazy good it also takes a bit to make, plus their training is costly, many don't survive and problems in 40K tend to escalate drastically so when the Astra Militarum can't beat something the Astartes almost always get sent to help since if THEY can't handle the problem the planet's usually considered lost at that point.

Honestly, I like how the most elite of the normal humans look most similar to modern soldiers, while the custodes look like the popular image of medieval knights. It's a nice contrast.

Im surprised they dont still wear void armor which the old Solar Auxilia wear with special formations of power armored units and even more elite formations wearing human-sized terminator armor(i mean terminator armor was originally human sized anyway)
I'd want to know what would happen if a Lucifer Black fought a standard Astartes. Is it a moment of "victory, but a difficult one", or is it a "oh shit, a regular human is going toe to toe with a transhuman" due to their equipment and training.
Or is it closer to "The astartes wins, but at a cost", like so many elite non-transhumans fighting transhumans normally goes.
I really hope that this is fan fiction. This detracts somewhat from the "how much did humanity lose?" vibe that 30k did well.
It's canon, they only appear in blood games and Legion, but they abstolutely kick ass, they were on the decline after the heresy though.
They are absolut monsters, one managing to slip past and stab alpharius, drawing blood, at the end of legion.

This explains a LOT about why a Custodian was wary (not worried per say) about infiltrating a place with one of these guys in the guard. (Granted, he was backed by a lot of other guys too)

I don't even PLAY tabletop, I just collect the models because 40k stuff looks really good on the empty section of shelving I've got next to my Halo and Star Wars sections. A Little Correction on the Armor Part, in the books i Read the Lucifer Blacks got the armor there Patrons gave them, after they are Super elite Units they mostly get Power Armor, Depenting on the Planet and the Rules, they use Carapace armor or Flak armor, or when there is an other Good reason. Like just visiting an other lord, when you show up in Full Force with heavy armor and heavy weapons that could be taken as Aggression, because Power armor is often more used on Battlefields, while anything below that could serve as a Prestige thing on parties so you know that he is a Solder/warrior ect. it is the same Reason why you would not see a Knight in IRL with a Full plate armor at a Feast maby just the brestplate but that was it.
