Once you stop giving a shit about what everybody else is doing, and start doing your own thing, life becomes so much less stressfull. That includes stopping wasting money on things you don't need to impress people.
Too late for me, i just ordered jackets but coz those are replacements to husband's broken zipper jacket & mine cracking / pilling off skin jacket. Usually plants are always put in cart for weeks, then remove them. I am focusing to manage my shopping addiction - buying only things we need. Hopefully, we can both stop the addiction 😅
I retired from work early, i'm only 50 years old because just like you i hate being in an office. I don't have a lot saved and i will only receive my monthly retirement pension when i'm 60. So for now i rely on my savings and be conscious of my spending. I have a monthly budget and in so doing this i became a minimalist and frugal. i don't buy anything unless they run out or break, i re-purpose things. This saves me a lot
@cath7099 I’m retiring at 51. I’ll be able to get my pension because I’m a teacher and have taught 25 years. But I won’t make as much and will have to be careful! Enjoy your retirement!
I retired last year as well and living on savings. I’ve always been frugal, house and car is paid off. I’m close to sixty however I’m concerned my savings might not last until I receive insurance at 65. Sometimes I wish I had a spouse but that’s not always a fool proof plan either 😂 I hope you’re doing well!
You actually have a pension to look forward to and help you out, there a millions who will not be getting any pension at all! Yet they spend like they have unlimited funds.
This video is extremely motivating. I have fallen into $10,000 worth of consumer debt. This debt is a combination of financing luxury items and also financing the repairs of my vehicles, because I did not have a savings to make the repairs. As of today, I am about $7,000 away from $0. And I’ll be getting out of that debt pretty soon.
I will be forever be Liable to you, you have Transformed my entire life and I continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear that with just a little investment you saved me from going into huge financial crisis. Thank you Angie Chen Owens
Wow. I'm a bit perplexed seeing her been mentioned here also Didn’t know she has been good to so many people too this is wonderful, I'm in my fifth trade with her and it has been super.
She is my family's personal Broker and also a personal Broker to many families in the United states, she is a licensed broker and a FINRA AGENT in the United States.
I'm just an average money earner, I have been in many jobs where I got cheated out on despite working my butts off. I have reached the point where I am okay to earn less and be happy. My happiness consists of simple activities such as watching movies, gaming, exercise and cooking. All of these hobbies are cheap to maintain. I save so much money without even trying, however people around me don't understand why I am like this, I always get questioned not why am I so frugal but rather why am I so cheap. I learnt to not explain myself too much anymore and stay content because not everyone will understand or try to understand.
This is a great video! We just went through our budget and cut $135 of crap we were paying for no real reason, streaming services included. We were wasting money.
You're so similar to me in your frugality and enjoyment of the small things. I'm glad I found your channel and a kindred spirit! Sending love from Scotland!
I never get my nails done. I have always done it myself, just keep them clean. Stay healthy and fit doesnt have to cost a lot. The money spent on nails is not worth it IMO. I do go to the hair salon once every 3 months and in my country I pay $30. I do sometimes splurge on electronics because I see it as an investment in my job. Just purchased a new iphone $1200 and ultrawide monitor for $400 … I work online. It’s a splurge but I save a lot on other stuff such as fashion and beauty. That’s how I try to keep a balance :)
Interesting byproduct of giving up unfrugal habits for a period of time was that after that period was finished I did not go back to them, I kept the minimalist habits and dont even miss the 'other' lifestyle.
I agree with you about debt. I had a mortgage for many years. Beyond that I have had no debt. It was tough sometimes being single, maintaining a mortgage and a household on my own. Regardless, I tried to only buy what I could pay off monthly. I am not a minimalist. I have an annual budget which I try to stick to. I believe in everything in moderation including moderation. I think it is healthy to splurge on small things that make you happy. I hope you treat yourself every once in a while, even if it is just a coffee or tea.
I am attempting to be frugal. I am saving money for a used vehicle. My spending habits are erratic sometimes, but I have been saving since February. I have been decluttering my living space too!
Your demeanor and attitude, your calm voice and rational thinking just got you a new subscriber 😊 I love this video, it helped me to show my husband why we chose the trajectory of our lives that we did. Thank you ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience with being frugal! I appreciate this as I am on this journey too and have become content with embracing minimalism. It is soooo rewarding and I am so happy that I no longer have to feel compelled to run anybody else’s race in life
I definitely align with the peace of mind aspect, Minimalism is connotated to deprivation for some reason but in my opinion its actually the complete opposite! Investing or saving earlier in life really does allow you to have options, I enjoyed listening to the talking points throughout. thank you for the video.
It's hard to be "frugal" today - with many who are renting in NYC or other boroughs - when their rent alone is like more than 1/2 of their salaries! Getting a roommate is not always possible. But I am all for saving, and not spending without planning and sacrificing to invest for the future
When I was a teen, I barely had anything, but I was full of life ….now I have so many things, and feel dead inside… ok maybe I’m exaggerating a little lol but as a teen I enjoyed the world with wonder and adventure vs now I feel tied down by all my stuff
Completely agree with almost everything here (eg helping you appreciate things and not be so much of a consumer) but genuinely shocked that someone would find a 9-5 job more stressful than owning a business. Business owners work like 12-16 hour days and don’t even get a pension while doing so! But then again I have an average earning job that is genuinely interesting and intellectually challenging so I realise I’m very fortunate
I’ve experienced both and they each certainly have their pros and cons! I think it’s very dependent on the person. Some people find it more satisfying to work for themselves, even if it’s more stressful! But definitely not for everyone. I do appreciate the ability to clock out each day and not think about work (for the most part) at the end of each day :)
Decluttering everything aspect of my life and starting to live the life that I actually want to live regardless of everyone else's opinion honestly changed everything.
Had Amazon items in my cart. Woke up in the middle of the night and deleted all of them..just to find later that morning my car wouldn’t start and had to get an Uber..
i can live without using electricity, but i can't live without eating food. i literally almost went crazy because i haven't eaten anything for two days straight. every item i have in my home, i think about how much we could have saved for food if we didn't purchase other things. i can't even use the sofa without feeling upset. all i need is a shelter, food, water... other things i can live without
I brown bag my lunch daily now.. I make coffee everyday.. no Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts coffee… I start to be frugal now.. I have a 401k and stocks…I have student loan debt but will start the monthly payments soon … my SUV is paid for .. I have no rent and I’ll stop having my nails done!!! That alone is $1200 a year! Waste of money😱
Yo renuncie definitivamente en hacerme las uñas o ir peluquería o estética o comprarme ropa (solo compro quando algo se me rompió)para comer fuera voy solo con mis hijos una ves a dos semanas
This one is still kind of new and that’s why it’s so white and bright still 😅 normally my white t shirts start to yellow and look worn after some time!
Woohoo Visa just gave me $8000. Let's go spend it!!!! What is this??? why do I need to pay Visa $253 every month? How will I ever be able to afford this. Woohoo MasterCard just gave me $10000. That was scary, I thought I was broke... Thank you MasterCard, let's go out to dinner to celebrate this windfall, in Hawaii!!!. And, get some clothes for the trip. What is this??? why do I need to pay MasterCard $346 every month? Oh well, visa just gave me an extra $3000. That was scary, I thought I was broke...
I agree with many of your points, but your tone comes across super judgy and superior. Saying things like ‘this is not normal and you should take a hard look at your finances’ is super rude. Some might say going into stores carrying products around, agonising and then putting them back is ‘not normal’ too, but tbh it’s nobody’s business what anyone else does or does not buy. Being mindful with your spending is great, but it’s also okay to live a little. You can definitely go too far in either direction, and judgement like this doesn’t help anyone. It just creates shame if someone can’t reach your standards. You can always live with less, but everyone has a different comfort level and that’s totally ok.
Agreed. And as a frugal minimalist myself, even I recognise it is 100% ‘normal’ - it creates a dopamine hit for most people and that can be an addictive feeling. Personally I think the key to breaking shopping addiction is to find dopamine hits from other sources.
@@judegrindvoll8467absolutely! Unfortunately the capitalist system many of us exist within does encourage overconsumption. But sometimes it can be due to things like neurodivergence or trauma as well. Being judgy doesn’t help anyone - and that goes for self judgement too!
Hi there! It was not my intention to come across as judgy. Just making it a point that even though it unfortunately has become ‘normal’, it shouldn’t be and if someone is in a bad financial spot or wants to get ahead, then they should really consider cutting back on things. Of course, people are free to do what they want and this was only meant to inspire and encourage those who are sick of living in debt and/or paycheck to paycheck and want to change. Nothing wrong with buying things if you can afford it!
Once you stop giving a shit about what everybody else is doing, and start doing your own thing, life becomes so much less stressfull. That includes stopping wasting money on things you don't need to impress people.
I 100% agree!
❤omg yes you nailed it with your comment
True
Totally agree!
THISSSS! Thank you! When you have confidence you don’t feel the need to impress anyone!
I just cancelled an online order (clothing) watching this video. The shopping addiction is hard to kick. Its honestly embarassing.

Please let me know how to contact her as I'm new to this.
I was skeptical at first until I decided to try. It’s huge returns is awesome! I can’t say much.

I love your view on minimalism. You really open your persperctive on it rather than repeat things I've heard in other videos.
Thank you!

💪 staying single have saved thousands ; put that 💰 in high yields savings account.
This video is so good. You have a lot of good points I can relate to. New follower.
Thank you!!
Hi Denise. I just accidentally stumbled upon your channel (thanks yt algo) and it feels like a breath of fresh air.
It's hard to be "frugal" today - with many who are renting in NYC or other boroughs - when their rent alone is like more than 1/2 of their salaries! Getting a roommate is not always possible. But I am all for saving, and not spending without planning and sacrificing to invest for the future
Very true! I had to move to a different area in order to be able to save more but I realize it’s not as easy for everyone!
just subscribed! love this video. i have a shopping addiction and this was humbling.
great video, appreciate the honesty about your upbringing
I completely injoy of your insight and the manner you talk too😊
I still have a car but I have driven it 350 miles since 2021
Filled it up in 2022 and still have 3/4 of a tank
I did recently buy a pair of socks
I’d say… best that everybody learn how to do this. Times are changing.
When I was a teen, I barely had anything, but I was full of life ….now I have so many things, and feel dead inside… ok maybe I’m exaggerating a little lol but as a teen I enjoyed the world with wonder and adventure vs now I feel tied down by all my stuff
Watched this again and subscribed!
This is the video that everybody needs to create for himself/herself (not just to watch).
Love this video and hearing things from your point of view. ❤
Another new subscriber for you! I love your easy way with common sense....
Thank you!
This is such a great informative channel ✅
I’m exactly like you ❤️💪🏻
