      I know, so many girls these days let their makeup wear them, instead of the other way round. Each girl/woman is beautiful the way God made her, makeup is supposed to enhance what you naturally have, not recreate it. Ps... Yes, I am a woman, lol and I loooooove makeup. 💜

      Until not so long ago it wasn't considered"bullying" to point out flaws it was just a factual statement just like pointing out good things. People these days are completely retarded, weak, into themselves and honestly pathetic.

      Sugar Plum usually people who think bullying doesn't exist are people who aren't really aware of what bullying actually is and will attach the term to it to anything or have had other people do it. It's the same thing with feminism.

    One of my friends has heterochromic eyes (light green and hazel), and since we grew up in the 80s where the makeup was applied just like in this tutorial (at least everyday girls did it this way... I didn't know anyone who had a plethora of brushes and colors etcetera!), it's what we did, too... A makeup artist selling products in a shopping mall booth on weekends told her to use a third color that complements both eye colors instead of light green or hazel so she got a "chatoyant green-pink" that was just awesome.

    I had a mini freak out when I saw her pour water on the mascara cake! You’re supposed to wet the brush, then rub it into the cake to make a paste. Pouring water on the cake can ruin it, especially if you use too much water

      There’s something called having different styles, wanna look painted? Slap it on, wanna look like you’re wearing none at all? Use it like it’s your last ever bit of makeup. Things have changed like for instance, style has changed women wear pants. I can use the same water fountain as my friends. 😂 And now people are more positive on how they look and there’s not as much pressure. People want you to see different parts of makeup. Like the big lip trend. You wanna be like “WOAH DUDE THEIR LIPS ARE HALF OF THEIR FACE” so for y’all and your tumblr profile pictures, know that times have changed. So if anyone gives you hell on how you paint your face, let them know it’s the 21st century and you can look like pennywise if you want to.

    • @LeLeCatx3
      @LeLeCatx3 6 лет назад +41

      um no today's makeup isn't about turning yourself into another person it's about the art behind it. I love makeup to death it's one of my biggest hobbies and im wearing a full face of it almost everyday. I always create different looks with my eyeshadow which can take hours because it's an art form. i express myself through it. It's totally okay to like more natural makeup and everything but there is no need to bash people who wear a lot of it. I don't see why it's wrong to look different and try out new things.

    • @cao0323
      @cao0323 6 лет назад +11

      lena actually in Jbunzie's case, she DOES turn herself into a different person xD. But I know when I put all my makeup and contour on I usually do look like a totally different person. And that's okay, because without it I am busted. ;) In all seriousness though, no ones bashing anyone. You have an opinion and so does everyone else. Do your thing and rock your makeup. You just said it's okay to like more natural makeup. And you're right. It's okay to like natural make up, it's okay to not like natural make up, it's okay to like heavy make up and it's okay to not like heavy make up. Be YOU. Being an individual is what makes the world fun.

  • @SandraNelson063
    @SandraNelson063 6 лет назад +838

    The whole point was to look like almost no makeup was used. A soft glow was the wished for result. It wasn't about coverage, as much as it was about enhancing the shape and colour of the eye, and the shape of the lip.
    What was also important in a girl's beauty regime was getting plenty of sleep ( at least 7 hours a night), drinking lots of water, and eating fruit, veg and protein. And exercise! It was understood that your skin was attached to the rest of the body and was linked in to your over all health. Your skin wasn't at it's best when you weren't sleeping or eating properly.
    These days, women don't get anywhere near enough sleep, we're over stressed. We don't eat properly and a lot of us smoke and drink alcohol. All of which is bad for the skin. That's why women today need to use so much more makeup.

      Actually, women up until maybe 40 or 50 years ago wore A LOT more makeup than we do today. While this tutorial is for a more natural look, the most popular look women wanted to achieve back then was the full-coverage, flawless look a la the movie stars. One of the ways they got this look was through a Max Factor product that was a liquid AND powder combo foundation called Pancake, and it was called this because it was so thick and full of pigment that it had to be activated with water in order to use. Women would pack this stuff on too! Wonder why their skin always looked so flawless in vintage pics? It's partly due to poor camera quality, but also because they were wearing A LOT of foundation on their faces. Women would also pack on cake mascara, a literal block of black pigment they would have to activate with water in order to use. Because it was activated with water the formula was often really thin, so women layered a lot of product to get as much volume as they could get. Thinner, water-based makeup wouldn't come out until the mid-70s, and I'm glad! Can you imagine how long our morning routines would take if you had to activate everything with water?

    This style of makeup is pretty much what I can still see around in my country! I don't follow it exactly myself (I do love using eyeliner, after all), but it's funny to see how common it still is. And it matches the idea that makeup should enhance your natural beauty rather than make you a different person, an idea that is prevalent in my country too!

    • @unrulycrow6299
      @unrulycrow6299 6 лет назад +2

      pixiee Zakura I'm from France (born, raised and living in Paris), and while browns are more prevalent here, they are still applied similarly to what is shown in the video, it's quite funny haha
      Personally, I avoid browns though, and often use corals instead. It's more cheerful and works really well with my skin tone! It's also a nice change of pace from what I usually see in Paris haha I suspect it's the Mediterranean influence (I'm French Catalan, and used to cross the border anytime I'm in the South). Colours are more prevalent in Spain, and I chose to keep that style in France. :)
      I didn't know it was also a thing in Eastern Europe - though I'm not really surprised. "Makeup to enhance your natural features" is a very European logic nowadays, imo.

There's no face priner, eye primer, no liner, no contour, no high light, no layering of 5 different eye shadows, no concealer and color correcting, no setting spray.... Seems like we've been overly marketed to, and here I thought my make up collection wasn't complete lol

      Garnet lol Yes!!! Exactly 😉 Make up has come a long way in terms of quality too, so why should we even need primers and special applicators and all that?? We've got foundations that boast 24 hours of FULL coverage, but we still prime first even though we take it off in 10 hours? Lol I love the simplicity of this, really helps me take a step back from thinking I don't have enough lol

      I have always thought makeup was too much today. I was a child of the 70’s/80’s and we learned how to do our makeup from our moms... who were doing their makeup at our age in... the 50’s. Of course the 80’s saw some crazy trends, but I never even heard of primer and contour and highlights until the last few years and honestly girl, who has time for that? I will often just line my eyes, use two tones of shadow (a light and dark, usually of the same color family) and mascara and out the door. Sometimes when I’m going out I will put on lipstick as well but wow... if I had to put all that shit on daily my skin would DIE.
      I love the simplicity of this style of makeup!

    It's really nice to see that certain things I swear by actually have backing with things like methods they used at some point in time in the past - I put my makeup on BEFORE I take a shower, I've always done it that way. The makeup goes on easier pre-shower, the makeup seems to lock in better, and I get this perfect finish that takes my makeup from "She just finished putting makeup on" to "She has eye makeup but the rest I can't tell if it's natural or not".
    I make sure to avoid my face in the shower, but it gets dewy (aka sweaty) in the shower, then when I get out I just take my towel and dab it once or twice. I do use foundations that stay on really well, so if you're afraid of it messing up you could use a tissue and just gently lay on your face to absorb the wetness from the shower.

    Its funny how so many people complain how women wear so much makeup nowadays. How back in the day girls didn't wear so much. I knew a lady who was born in the 50's when I was a little girl. She wore a lot of makeup and would tell me how she had also slept with her hair all done and would wear girdles. So people saying women were more natural before they either don't talked to elders and/or need go learn a bit more about beauty history. Also, go beyond what they put on their face that was literally poison, shoes, women back in "those days" from head to toe wore dangerous and uncomfortable to look presentable to men/society. Just a reminder though, highlighting and contouring are neither new terms nor "invented" in 2000 to now....been used and perfected so many decades ago. It may seem more now but only because we have access to more and more people sharing on social media.

    • @klaradracova8233
      @klaradracova8233 6 лет назад +29

      Bee Deal Exactly! And one of the main reasons why people think they wore less makeup is because 1. the makeup they used appeared more natural 2. it was less acceptable to wear makeup back then if you weren't married.

    • @viky_is_here
      @viky_is_here 6 лет назад +7

      Bee Deal she would have been in her 20s by the 1970s, and we all know how trends change so fast, so she wasn't lying about putting alot of makeup on since during the peak age that she started wearing makeup was in the late 60s probably. But each decade went through it's own trend.

      Well yeah...she was born in the 50s. Key word is born. She was a young woman in the 70s and 80s....when lots colorful makeup, especially eyeshadow and blush was the trend. She has nothing to do with the 50s and 50s style. Like how I was born in the 80s...I don't have 80s style because I'm a young woman now, in the 2010s.

    • @Tea_Noire
      @Tea_Noire 6 лет назад +1

      @@andromedastar4900 Actually, since OP mentioned how the woman wore girdles (which lost their popularity during the 70s because of the feminist/Civil Rights movement) it's possible she was born in the late 40s or early 50s, early enough to grow up wearing girdles, since a lot of teen girls were pressured to wear training girdles during that time.

    It's kind of refreshing to see how many fewer products they used, vs. the amount most girls use today, especially in makeup tutorials. I'm personally not too fond of using things like highlighter, bronzer, false lashes, etc.
    So I was kind of already going with a more toned down look, before I even got into 50's fashion, and mostly because I was just trying to save money, and stay relatively natural.
    Even after getting into that kind of fashion, I hadn't seen anything like this until now, so it's kind of refreshing to have things accidentally align like this.

    I like how you actually were wearing exactly the same style of clothes but in pink instead of blue. And with a blue towel like scarf while the other woman was wearing a pink towel. Opposite colors, same style. And you'd totally rock the '50's I think. It looked really beautiful on you. Like make up in the '50's was meant: to enhance natural beauty and not create some mask that makes one look fake. I also use makeup only to enhance what already is instead of changing my appearance. I think people in those times were a lot more self confident than girls nowadays. And self confidence is the secret to real beauty, and the fun part is that you don't have to buy it, you can find it inside of you. Everybody can be beautiful even without makeup. You just need to love yourself enough to care for your health (good foods, enough exercise, you don't have to be skinny, just be healthy) and know that you are worth it. It's very easy to be beautiful and doesn't have to cost even a cent. And when you know that you are, you'll only need makeup if you feel in the mood to enhance what is already there. ☺️ but I can't deny that using the same color eye shadow as your eye color feels totally wrong. It makes eyes look dull although it still looked well on you. I think using an opposite color looks better (blue on brown, brown on blue, purple on greenish and greyish colors).

    • @cringeproof100
      @cringeproof100 6 лет назад +6

      I disagree that most people were more self confident. There was extreme pressure on women to be proper, fit in, and be thin. Much fewer ways to express yourself and have fun. If you can't express your identity and do sports/study anything/do your makeup however/wear pants how could you be very self confident?

    • @Iv1309
      @Iv1309 6 лет назад +5

      Emma Bobro Etiquette and self confidence aren't the same. You can behave in a way that's polite and proper and still be yourself (unless you are by nature a rude person that doesn't care about society). I think people were even more judged on the way they behaved than the way they looked in the past. Nowadays it doesn't matter if you're a rude b... As long as you have many layers of makeup and at least 500 likes for every selfie everything is just fine, right? I think the past was more about etiquette. Today it's all about the count of likes. I think most people can behave proper and still be self confident and themselves. You only have to find the right balance. And what you wore... Most people would fit into the fashion that was the trend that time. Styles have changed, but the fact that many girls want to wear fashion hasn't changed. When you see how much people are nowadays depending their confidence on how many likes they have and the need to look flawless on every picture, I can't imagine that type of girls (which are to many) to really be happy with their lives. So much girls hide behind makeup and likes.

    • @Iv1309
      @Iv1309 6 лет назад +4

      Emma Bobro also the 50s didn't bring that much pressure from before WW2. In that time women's rights were going fast. Women became more and more equal already and less seen as property. I would have loved to have lived in that time. Especially in the 60s that followed.

    I think the most interesting thing is that this " everyday " look for the 50s is looks very simple. I think we are used to seeing the Hollywood style makeup from the 50s, so it's surprising to see how simple the " regular " women would wear on a daily basis. ( my guess is that it's for " regular " women but correct me if I'm wrong I haven't done research to back my theory)

    I love her so much, no drama, no fake shit and actually a girl who does what she loves. There's no reason to hate her.

    This is amazing! It looks sooo good; this is what the every day woman in the 50’s would have looked like! Occasionally with longer thicker lashes or eyeliner but that’s basically it! I love it 😍

    Every time i watch one of Jess' videos, all my problems seriously go away. Like i seriously have no worries :-/ ive been dealing with EXTREME anxiety since my teen years and im now 20 and still trying to recover from it + depression. Watching these videos just make me feel like it's OK to be myself and it's ok to be confident and not compare myself to anyone. i always find myself doubting myself because i dont talk a certain way, or dress a certain way or act like your stereotypical american black girl, but that's ok because im a product of my environment and shouldnt shame myself or allow others to shame me for speaking proper or liking "weird" things or being...my weird self. i feel like i dont fit in, in most environments , but i think that's because im not being myself. im being who i think i should be instead of actually being me and liking what i like!! it's pretty great how you just come across those certain people (in this case, certain youtuber) who makes you feel like you can be whatever you want to be. No more emo phases for me lol (worst phase of my LIFE btw!!!!)

    You're absolutely stunning! You definitely have the features and natural beauty to pull off any look, however you look so pretty in this particular 'old tyme' type of style!
