King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella is a graphic adventure game developed and released by Sierra On-Line in 1988. The player takes on the role of Princess Rosella, daughter of King Graham of Daventry (King's Quest I and King's Quest II) and the twin sister of Gwydion/Alexander (King's Quest III), who must save his father and a good fairy and defeat an evil witch. Critically acclaimed, it was one of the first PC games to support a sound card. -

@brillopad6911 to be fair, 8 is ok-ish for what it is ( it's just not a kq) and 7 had pleasant ( mind, pleasant, not good) visuals...and that was it. A shame after the fantastic kq6
The pinnacle were 5 and 6, i adore those 2, and kq3 is very dear to me as it was my first sierra title
@@samvimesfan9779 I agree and I love 1-4 because I got to play them all on the old school computers when they came out. We didn't have a machine that could but my cousin did so I'd go over and play them. 1 is so old that the remake is fun, the remake of 2 is cool too but I prefer the original. 3 was so hard at fisrt but I liked that challenge. I now have a black cat and when I see him sitting in a room or hallway I can't help but think of 3 every time and it makes me want to play it. 4 was great for the advancements it had over the previous 3. I got 5 for Christmas in 90 and that one was special to me as it was the first game of my own in the series. 6 was fantastic and yeah the pinnacle. When the King's Quest collection released I made sure to buy it so I had all of them. Still fun to play through once a year.

I'm making a friend a costume of Rosella the way she looked in this game. We were talking about going to the ren fair together one day, her as Rosella and me as Shinnok. We'd not only have a red theme, but we'd be characters they way they looked in the fourth installment of each franchise. KQ4 is Rosie's first adventure while MK4 is Shinnok's first game playable.
I know it's very wishful thinking but I really want this game to get a fun re-release.

I used to play all these sierra game on pc speaker, dreaming I had a sound card which I couldn’t afford. At some point, I managed to have one. Today, interestingly enough, pc speaker sound and music is what I miss the most.

Indeed. Was also the first Sierra game I ever played, when I was about 8. That was quite the introduction to the series, and the genre as a whole.

For real. The SCI era was definitely the time of "unwinnable states" (or "dead man walking", as Scott Murphy called them), where you miss one obscure item or text input, and there's no actual death/game over, but the game is unbeatable. SQ3 is probably the one exception, as Scott apparently wasn't a fan of that design. Roberta, on the other hand, clearly loved them, as even KQ5 had a few.

I gotta agree. Using the mouse to move almost makes this unwatchable.
Haven’t seen this game since the 80’s.
About the bow and arrows, you only get 2 arrows. They are both needed for certain events. If you carelessly shoot one and save afterwards, consider yourself SOL.
For those having trouble with playing this in the King's Quest Collection version due to the password thing, the digital game manual contains the password key. You've just gotta print it out and refer to it each time.
Video could've been an hour long if they used F5+Enter to save and stopped typing backslashes before everything.
Just came out of curiosity after having completed KQ6 30 years after its release.
What about lighting up the area behind waterfall? What about the golden ball?
I would never use external speakers. Something about the Midi internal PC speakers made this game unique to me.
If the king had black hair and the queen brown hair, why is the princess blonde? I sense shenagans.
Genesta knowed that Lolotte kidnapped Edgar when he was a baby from Oberon and Titania. Is the because She realize that the Witch transform the baby Fairy in a baby hunchback. Rosella was the Key for Edgar
53:00 makes no sense. The villain has the cute girl prisoner and lets her go. It would have made more sense if she like squeezed through the bars of the cell.
That's how Billy the Kid escaped from jail many times. The cell was designed to hold men. Not a skinny young boy.

@@607 ""Later games" that I have played on Scummvm are Police Quest: Open Seaon and The 7th Guest. Earlier games would be Kings Quest I (both old agi and updated sgi versions). So I am sure Kings Quest IV will work too. No harm to give it a try. 😊

Excellent video for a great game! True classic, and hopefully in the future indie studios will be able to develop more like this! Maybe a HD remake like they did for Day of the tentacle!
I thought this game was great in 1722, but I just can't muster myself to watch it now.
Why are your typed commands beginning with the, “/?” Are you a hacker or playing a hacked version... Sierra are pretty strict about that!

There is KQ IV Retold that adds a point and click interface but no graphical changes.
