- A collection of deaths and bad endings to King's Quest IV Retold, a remake that modernizes the gameplay to King's Quest 4 to make it a bit more accessible. This should be most, if not all, ways to lose besides some minor variants. King Graham's daughter Rosella goes to the land of Tamir to find a magic fruit to save her father and defeat the evil fairy Lolotte. Rosella's greatest enemy is stairs and you can tell which fairy is the good one because her house is OSHA-compliant. My thanks to Jeff Cotten for suggesting this game.
King's Quest is noted for a lot of puns in the gameplay, particularly when you die.
The mummy death requires debug mode to get and the remake doesn't appear to have a debug mode, so I included the death from KQ4 (you can't normally get there unless you have the scarab). There was another description of the ogre catching you in his house but I couldn't get it to show. Waiting upstairs in the ogre's house will have the ogress catch you but the dialogue is the same as her catching you elsewhere.

If I've learned anything from watching this it would be that You should be more careful, Rosella
Non-OSHA compliant stairs are the biggest threat in the earlier King's Quest games.
@@CrankyTemplar King's Quest may have started the craft, but Space Quest mastered it, and it was hilarious due to how snarky the narrator got with you falling to your demise.
You can only imagine what she is thinking as she begins dying on the island, being dragged away by the ogre/ogress, getting boiled in the witches cauldron, marrying Edgar, etc. Knowing that her father is going to die and that it's all her fault because she failed him.
Perfectly worded! I love contemplating what Rosella is thinking during her perils!
9:39 - Oh no Rosella! At least your mummy still loves you.
9:57 - Like Pandora herself you did not take heed, and unleashed disease, poverty and greed.
So whenever Rosella falls, an earthquake happens.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
Press F for fall
Who else remembers the little book that you had to use a transparent red slider thing to unscramble the text?
Being married to Edgar isn't all that bad of a fate, TBH, the real problem is who your mother-in-law.
But also your dad dies.
@@sha11235 Yeah, Genesta too. And Lollote is about to take over the land.

The way this bulldog has stuffed Rosella into itself and made some "Burp" sound. 🤣🤣🤣
Anyone else thinking of the song, "Dumb Ways to Die"? BTW, I appreciate how many puns the devs made for all the deaths.
6:29 It's not a troll. It's a DREADFUL TROLL!!
(It takes a bit of a freeze frame to catch the text.)
5:37 Ouch! My Hair!
I love how sad and somber the game over theme is.
I love the fanfare music that plays when you get your score after Graham dies. At least he'll never have to deal with Cedric...
@@CrankyTemplar Unfortunately with Graham dead, his family will be kidnapped by Mordack in revenge for his brother Manannan who was turned into a cat by his son Alexander, and Graham won't be around to rescue them.
True, but Graham might still opt for death anyhow to avoid Cedric.
That's only for the bad ending though if she doesn't go under the waterfall using the crown to become a frog and light the lantern then use the board next to it on the other side to cross the chasms and jump the pond areas to get the magic fruit. With the fruit it's a totally different ending and music. The music seems different on this remake than the original from 1988. Adds a little to each event. FWIW I didn't like the bad ending. The dialogue makes you feel about 1 ft high and totally guilty as Rosella lol
I love Sierra games but I find it infuriating how easy it is to die.
The sad music reminds you that in failing in your quest, you've sealed your father's fate.
"Watch out, Graham! A poisonous paradox!"
The whale has nice teeth.
Creepy, human-like teeth, like a Pacu.
The sound effects & music sound amazing. Sounds a lot better than the original game!
as a kid.... I just remember! ahhhhhhh a chasm! amd why are you going through the woods without a scarab!
I was trying to get killed. :D
11:27 Edgar never trust to his adopted mother
Unfortunately for me... I have lolotte as a mother in law right now.
Did you get my comment about doing the death scenes for Quest for Glory IV with the enhanced patch eventually?
I don't recall getting that message. What patch are you talking about?
@@CrankyTemplar There's a Enhanced patch that adds back in the deleted narrator John Rhys-Davies's voice over of the death messages, along with a few other fixes.
Oh nice! I'll have to take a look into it. It might take a while to get to since it would require playthroughs of each character for every death.
@@CrankyTemplar @CrankyTemplar I should also mention that deaths that were cut from the game have been added back in.
@@CrankyTemplar It's going to be awesome hearing John Rhys-Davies yelling "You have the power!" in the "electrifying feat" death scene. :) I remember hearing it in that compilation video of all the deleted death message voice clips.
How in the world did you get that mummy death? How is that possible?
It's not possible in the remake to my knowledge but in the original KQ4 you need to use debug commands to teleport to that room early in the game. The game itself notes you shouldn't have been able to ordinarily get there.
I managed to do it without debug commands. The game will also change to night after sufficient time passes. You can strategically dig the graves before the zombies get you with timing and luck. You can also elude the zombie at the front door if you type "open door" a few pixels before reaching the door. Yes, I devoted the better part of my morning seeking the mummy death.
Didn't opening pandora's box cause a bunch of spooky ghosts to fly out, but they don't show up in this footage
I believe that was removed for this remake but not sure why.
@@CrankyTemplar There were Three different original versions, I believe, Amiga, PC, and Apple II, maybe, each had slight differences, the demons were one of them, I think this remake is more or less one of those versions
Thankfully, none of these are Cannon. Otherwise, Gart wouldn't have been born
given how good this game was and it was probably the best King's Quest game ever, it sucks this doesn't have a 256 color VGA remake.
I'm familiar more with KQ6 and 7. I think 7 was the first one I saw.
@@CrankyTemplar KQ4 was probably the best game in the franchise. KQ7 was pretty good. I have seen 6 but never played it.
@@ManekiNeko1972 6 is awesome! There are several end scenarios. Definitely give it a try!
Horrible. This is a downgrade. Original parser interface is better.
