King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride (1994) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A beginning to end playthrough of Sierra On-line's 1994 graphic adventure game, King's Quest VII: The Princess Bride.
Both endings have been included in this video. The first (the good ending) follows naturally from the gameplay of Chapter 6; the second (bad) begins at 3:40:51.
There are a lot of genre snobs that blast KQ7 as being one of the weakest entries in the series. I am not one of those people. I played this for the first time some months after it was originally released, and the graphics, sound, and simplified interface made the game MUCH more accessible to the masses. It is true that the smart cursor made the game quite a bit easier than earlier games, but the puzzles by in large are the most logical the series had seen, putting them about on par with KQ6 in terms of relevancy to the plot. The presentation was likened to that in Disney films when the game first came out, and hindsight shows up just how much hyperbole was being used there. But, by any account, the animation (especially being in SVGA 640x480x256) was phenomenal, and was light-years beyond anything seen before it in games that didn't rely on FMV for in-game graphics. It probably helps that six different animation studios worked on it with an absurdly large budget :) I also believe that this was the game Roberta Williams worked on before beginning Phantasmagoria, released the following year.
I don't belief that KQ7 is necessarily the best of the series, but I do think that it sits awfully close to KQ5 and KQ6 in terms of storytelling and taking full advantage of the PC medium.

And thank you!
Hey I’ve got a RUclips video called library assistant becomes savior for dog
19:21 This scorpian scene always gave me a heart attack as a child! I would either die instantly or retreat back outside 😂 Never passed that area lol
Same!!!!
This game was my childhood. It was a favorite of my dad's and he passed it down to me
My dad also showed me this game !! Such great memories ❤
Same here! Good memories!
Wow thats funny, exactly the same with me. My dad played it, and i watched and ended up playing it to. I love that game.😁😁
Same here! Played it with my dad 😊
I have such magical memories of this game, I use to love walking through the forest and the stag, I got stuck in the town and only now realised I needed to throw the moon up. In a way I was happy to be stuck in that town, such amazing memories.
I'm so happy that this exists out there in RUclips land. I loved this game so much as a kid, I spent SO MUCH time playing it and I've even done fanart of some of the characters. This was such a nice blast from the past. Thank you for posting!
I grew up poor but my parents were able to save enough to buy a cheap pc for the family and this game came with it. I was a young boy that never had any game consoles so you know I was on top of the world! I played this game for hours! My mom would have to yank me off the computer lol the pc eventually broke and I eventually forgot the title. So glad I found it today ❤️
As much as this creeped me out as a kid, it was one of my favs :D
Yesss
The scorpion scared the crap out of me!
I have great memories of KQ 7 when I was a little kid... I will always have a soft spot for this game
@David Lutz 😑🙄
Wow. Memories. I vaguely remembered it. But watching this, it all comes back. So crazy how memories work. This was a hard game at points. Mentally stimulating though.
As a kid I played this at a friend's house for hours I swear, and we were SO stuck on it. I have no idea how anyone would figure these things out as a child. Especially waiving the flag at the scorpion!? So satisfying to see how you actually complete this lol.
Same😁
Same. It also didn't help that I spoke 0 English at 6 years old. 😂
same. I was also stuck on a part of the monkey island game that made me facepalm at how simple it was when I played it in later years...then I beat the game it seemed much shorter than I thought 😂.
Yo that scorpion scared the hell out of me as a kid with that ear piercing roar
Man I feel dumb ! I could not beat this at all ! In 94 I was in fourth grade
Played this when I was young. Will always remember it for how scary it was, and of course the seemingly (?) randoms deaths
You get a lot of those with the King's Quest games.
It gave me anxiety for life
I played this game for hours as a kid. I loved it. Finding it here and watching the play through has brought back a lot of great memories!
Best game I have ever played in my entire life. They don't make fairytales like this anymore. As an adult, I am stuck watching the whole thing...because I never past the scary parts as a child. The music and the monsters scared me. Lol...I'm glad I watched this! I'm able to see what happened in the end ❤️
I have been looking for this game for years! I played it with my mom when I was about 5 or 6 and only had the vaguest memory, didn't know what it was called. Finally I get to see how the game ends!
Omg same but at my uncle and aunt’s house! Lol
The hammer and pick really pulled their weight in this game.
I played this game back in 1990's.
My youthful time. Loved the series back then and still love it now. I am playing the game again now while sheltering in place during covid19 pandemic.
YOU ARE? Can you please tell me what kind of Hardware you are using🙏? I would love to play it again, but of course my old CD ROM (Windows 95👴👵) is utterly useless by now
Chapter 1: Once gave the ghost guy the unchanged saltwater by accident😟 He freaked out somewhat and I still remember how bad I felt about it😱😭
I miss the point-and-click genre. So many games have moved beyond it, but it's a treasure and it scratches an itch with a drawn out puzzle-solving, written chapter allure.
1:44:26 - Symphony No. 6 in B minor "Pathetique": Adagio - Allegro non troppo - Tchaikovsky
Oh, this brings me back. I always loved this one for the characters and the storytelling. V, VI, and VII have always been my favorites of the series, and this one will always hold a special place for me.
I loved the King’s Quest series, and this one was no exception. A real head scratcher at times. Loved it as much as all the others.
Who else is back here from the King’s Quest 2016 version to remember whether Vee or Neese looked more like the Queen from this game?
1:08:22 - I used to go there as a kid only to listen to that song. I loved it!
thank you so much. i got back one
of the best part of my childhood.
My childhood favourite.
Mine Too!
Oh man Sierra games!! Those where something for its time 😁
And the graphics are pretty nice too - for a game this old! 💜
@@sarahmoller7308 ja eller hur 😁
When I was a kid, this looked like a Disney movie to me. And now... boy, this is pixellated! But we had so much fun playing it back then.
Omg i played this game with my mom 25 years ago !! The music ! The items ! It all comes back it's crazy 😁
Thanks for the nostalgia !
2:17:23 "The levitating albino warthog of Rigatonia." I remember that line so well ever since I used to play the game back in the '90s when it came out! :)
I played this as a kid. I still don't know how anyone could progress without a walkthrough.
I do it all of the time. I use an Internet walkthrough for a few small things like getting the code to the Troll King's lock, but most of it's fairly straightforward I think.
It baffles me that I got as far as I did with no walk through tbh. I was like eight years old. I don't think I could do it today.
This is cool. It's actually a Queen's Quest! :D
Thanks for uploading this! Good memories! There was so much cool stuff that this game did - the dual storylines, the animation, the music, the female protagonists, and the wonderful STORY! Love it.
Basically a 3:43 hour movie :D
1:12:23
"Just cool off for awhile my many legged friend!"
"No fair!"
YEET
Thank you for this. I watched the whole thing. I played this as a kid and loved it so much. And now I can’t play it anymore and this gave me that satisfaction of reliving a memory. Thank you. 🤗
+Annie Stephan You're very welcome :)
There ought to be a remastered version of this.
trainguy111 I would love that!
Damn straight! This was my favorite as a kid. And they have done monkey island and broken sword. So here’s to hoping.
Same exact thought last night
YES!!!! Thank you!!
NO! Its good as it is!
I wrote the Hint Guide for Sierra. Also got the cover story for Interaction in the same issue: The Lost Mind of Dr. BRAIN TOTAL BRAIN WORKOUT
The developers took me through the game. I did the screen shots with my MAC. It was just me, John Williams (Johnny Magpie ), Tim Fruehe (graphics designer) and an intern named Skye who did the writing and design for Interaction.
I’m not being ironic or exaggerating: the Hint Guide for KQ7 is genuinely one of my favorite game guides of all time. I’m in my 40s and still writing stuff inspired by it. Thank you!
This was my very first adventure game, which I started playing at the tender age of five. Ah, memories...
I remember my dad was playing this at night and i would be watching right next to him. At that time I was 5, It kinda freaked me out when the boogey man suddenly came out and I still remember this.
Me too! That guy haunted me in my dreams! 😱☠️
Why am I just now finding out about this game? This would have been my shit as a kid.
Hmm you're right. That was the transition where I pasted the video files together. Damn! It looks like I accidentally trimmed out Valanice trading the book for the hook in the desert :, my bad!
At 1:34:47 the book suddenly changes into a walking stick. Is this a glitch or did something go wrong with the recording and something got lost?
i loved this game !!! thanks for uploading
Love the running water sound
So, fun fact: One of the animation studios working on this game was Animation Magic. If that name sounds familiar, you might know them from a couple of obscure (/j) titles known as Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: Wand of Gamelon.
I just discovered that you can get more than one ear of corn after a while. You can get fresh water again by repeating the process! You can drink the water yourself!
My love-hate for this game is intense. As a child I didn't know how to play this. But I remember the desert music so much as I tried for hours.
I loved this game when I was a child!
so i watch your playthroughs while i run on the treadmill and i gotta say this has been the most entertaining in a while. just love it.
Only thing I remember about this game was that lady falling on the ground while carrying a bucket o' water in the desert. Yeah, that was painful.
Nostalgia hits hard...
no matter how many times edgar gets brainwashed/gets amnesia; he still loves rosella! :D
Anyone else notice the cane magically appear in her inventory at 1:34:40
Thank god someone else did
Playing along and genuinely baffled
he probably forgot something during the walkthrough, did that part again and sticked the videos together :)

traded the book for the hook at the curiosity trader's house in the desert, if anyone was wondering what part of the gameplay is missing here.
I love how the spider Iis all like whats going on where am I XDD :D
one of my favourite point and click game,
I think blowing the horn into the hole in the ground is a lot funnier than the rope method!!
Probably my most favourite main character in whole series :)
As a 7 year old I'd never have understood the bull in a China shop reference lol
Wow. I need to find this and play it.
Interesting to see the change in UI menu from KQ5-6 to the Kyrandia-like KQ7
it makes me reminisce.
"How many young men do you know whose hobby is conjugating Latin verbs?"
Well, now I know what I need to do to get women.
I miss playing this.
I remember watching my older sister play this and being super scared of this game 😅
Very nice game. On the other handI had the King Quest 4, but never could complete it, and still wish to play it.
KQ4 was a great game! Much harder than this one though!
Omg I remember playing this on my cousin’s compaq computer, sometimes it will turn on and sometimes it won’t😭😭
I want a remake
My mom used to play this game with me when I was 6! I was so scared of the scorpion that I had to cover my ears.
if rosella were real, she'd be 43 now
She could easily be a grandma already
The music at 2:50:10 reminded me of "The Amazing Guardians of Eden" game...
"Hey lady! got any fava beaaans?"
I remember having no idea what to do to beat the levels in this game until my brother printed the cheat sheet out off some website.
I never got the chance to play this game. Maybe I should try it one of these days.
This game was trippy
I understand Sierra wanted to push the technology and storytelling forward and make something Disney-like with VII, but in my opinion, they did so at the cost of the best things that made them Sierra in the first place. This game could have been so much more.
Oh my god my childhood
The animation is creepy as hell too. Reminds me of the CDI Zelda games.
Ahahaha, thank god there are no dodongos to be found in Daventry!
Funny you should mention that, it's the same animation company!
The company that did the Zelda CDi games only did animation for the first chapter. Rest was done by 3 separate studios
"GReAt! I CaNt WaIT To BoMB SoMe DaDoNGos!!"
yep
Best game ever ! :-)
Link mah boi, this peace is what all true warriors strive for!
I think it's better than Phantasmagoria. That game was slow AF even though I fancy horror besides just fantasy
1:37:39 James brace yourself rosella it’s nightmare before Christmas all over again
This game was my childhood..if it wasn't for the book tho I would have never beat it bc some of that shit was hard..but so glad I can revisit my childhood thru these videos
I've played the game several times and I found it to actually be fairly easy. I only needed to refer to the walkthroughs for things like the code to the lock on the Troll King's prison.
@@WarGrowlmon18 ok im trying to figure out if ur bragging bc u thought it was easy or what?
@@khiantedavis2263 No I'm really not. I just finished replaying it again yesterday. There's a few spots where you need help, sure, but not the whole game from what I can tell.
@@WarGrowlmon18 ok well as a child it's not that easy as when u do it when ur an adult, but good for u for beating the game n not needing help
@@khiantedavis2263 Yeah I didn't have that one when I was a kid. I only had 6 and later 8. Man I kept getting STUCK on 6 because I could get to the Cliffs of Logic, but I had long since thrown out my game manual!!! And the online walkthroughs that I could find didn't give you the damn codes, just the answers!!!
How do you play this? I've been trying to find a way to download for Windows 10!
google "abandonware king's quest 7"
underrated
I am going insane. I know there is a place in the troll area where some bathing troll sings "Lo lo lo lo looooo" but I can't find it when I skip around in this video >.
I totally forgot they mad a 7th one of these. I was most familiar with the 6th one. Seems like it was doing a Final Fantasy with all these roman numerals.
Did you ever see the eighth one? You wanna talk bad about a game.... that's a prime target.
NintendoComplete Mask of Eternity is a good role-action game. KQ7 is a shitty adventure game.
Toni Clemente García :) I was wondering when a stalwart defender of 8 would comment. Ha-ha, I don't think it's a particularly bad game for its time, but I didn't think it had any place in the KQ series. It was just so totally different from anything the series represented. It alienated me, at least. I like KQ7, but I understand the criticisms, and totally agree with some.
Or like Final Fantasy pulled a Kings Quest. XD
MEOWING UP 🆙 TO THE MOON
Why can't we see remakes of these games... and Quest for Glory series>? We have remakes of new games every year.... These were the best!!
Conjugating Latin verbs? that’s one hell of man.
2:49:21 why death...
My fav game lol
played this game as kid but didnt understand it, but for some reason was able to skip levels even to i never finished the game or understood the story but loved the funny characters anf the slightly scary music
yes! there were t chapters and you could play them out of order. i replayed it as an adult and the story is amazing!
The PlayStation store has a collection of all the king’s quest games except this one. Granted, I’ve only played this one but I loved it, especially Ooga booga land.
i wonder if it is still available some were. were do you find all this old games. i would love to a game called"speurtocht in heksenstad"in Dutch, freddy fish and puttputt games and tkkg games. and some games from lannoo which i only was able to play as demo as kid
@David really didnt know thanks
1:55:12
This game was a little too forgiving.
Still kinda fun though.
This series is all over the place with its tone... Seriously, watch playthroughs of all the Kings Quest games. It's weird!
Is this a longer version?!!
Wait a minute! Etheria? Isn't that where She-Ra lives? (Don't get me started on that modernized woke She-Ra tho! I only like that classic version, thank you kindly!)
Also, wow! THIS is what the afterlife should be like, not that land of the dead from King's Quest VI. BEAUTIFUL! 😃
@2:38
Rosella: James keeps talking to me about nightmare before Christmas whatever that is
