  • A complete playthrough of the 1993 DOS CD version of Sierra Online's graphic adventure game, King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow.
    This playthrough shows the best ending (though not quite a perfect score), and is running the DOS VGA version (as opposed to the Windows 3.1 version with the really ugly higher resolution sprites pasted over the original VGA resolution backgrounds).
    Make sure you don't miss the game's radio-aired single "Girl in the Tower" playing during the credits. It's quite a doozy. As corny as it is, you can't argue with it's production value, nor can you really fault it for how much it screams "OMG early 1990s soft rock in a computer game!" ...if there are any people that would scream such a thing. The rest of the game's music is pretty fantastic too.

    I love when you reach the Isle of the Sacred Mountain, the narrator almost blatantly says, "The logic cliffs are copy protection. Good luck pirates!"

      You can blame the rise of multiplayer and online gaming for the rise of shooters. Kings Quest would only appeal to a small number of people nowadays, and game companies wouldn't view them as profitable enough to develop.

    • @templariox32
      @templariox32 3 года назад

      @robbthewolfking Rpgs are way more oversaturated than shooters tho
      Only shooters peoplr actually play in a mainstream basis nowadays are battle royales.
      No one plays Quake champions, Titanfall 2 has a small cult following, no one knows the darkness 1 and 2
      No one played Insurgency sandstorm
      No one played verdun and a shitton of other fantastic shooters
      Only really S tier one that was aknowledged by the mainstream public in recent memory was Doom eternal. While rpgs always have the game awards, a shitton of awards and everyone screaming about how "great they are" (even tho some of them are extremely dissapointing such as cyberpunk, Dragon age inquisition or Ff7R)
      Adventure games being niche has really nothing to do with it and even tho niche they are still alive in mass marketing with devs such as telltale games or Quantum dreams receiving a lot of recognition.
      Its a shame that people blame shooters for that really. Such a great genre full of great games.

      Erin McRorie I'm so glad you got to experience it again. In my opinion, it's one of the best games of all time. I've probably played it through about 10 times by now.

    • @KingsQuestVI

      To my knowledge, I don't think a free copy exists of the enhanced remake with the voice narration. I was only able to find the free floppy disk version with just the text. I just bought it; it wasn't expensive at all. I remember that it took me A LONG TIME to realize that I actually had to read a book that wasn't included in game to get past the cliffs of logic. It made me love the game so much more. I remember also figuring out how to get past the guards on the Isle of Wonder with my late Bompa (Grandpa). I miss him. He was an engineer that loved getting these games for his kids and grand kids. He LOVED puzzle games. Made you think really hard :)

    • @KingsQuestVI
      @KingsQuestVI 7 лет назад +1

      Haha yes! Floppy Disks were the ultimate! Honestly, I don't even remember how I was able to get past the main puzzles without a walkthrough. I think I played the game with my family members in order to beat the game. I remember freaking out when I figured out how to get the magic spell book. I didn't even think to click on the counter in the book shop. Bompa has been gone for about 9 years now. Miss him a lot! Do you by chance know of any other point-and-click adventure games like KQVI?

      Those were the true standouts of the series, and 6 is probably my favorite Sierra PnC game ever. Also agree on how it uses Death, truly memorable and gets away from the old Grim Reaper look everyone else used.

    This was always my favorite game when I was young. We had the all floppy version that didn't contain speech, a shorter intro and the midi version of Girl in the Tower. I liked the end credits of the floppy version more cause it showed the empty locations and made you think about the adventure you played for weeks. 😍

    *_"King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tommorow"_* for *_MS-DOS_* . The plot is for this installment is: 😃 *_"Hey! Remember that slave girl that *_"Graham"_* helped and hinted at being a love interest for *_"Alexander"_* in *_"KQ5"_* ? Well, this is essentially *_"Alexander"_* being like: 🙄 *_"I should go leave Daventry to see my girl. I hope she's OK- AAAND she's in danger. Wonderful... Time to save her!"_*
    POSITIVES
    • *Good Graphics* (The VGA visuals look better than the previous game. I feel the choice of color is a bit more varied here than in *_"KQ5"_* . The *_Windows_* version looks off, though. A mix high-resolution *_DOS_* sprites with the unchanged *_DOS_* backgrounds? Ewww!)
    • *Good Sound* (The music is good and the VOs are very cheesy but enjoyable. My favorite is definitely *_"Alex"_* going *_"WHOA! Wait a minute!"_* during that stupid rock climbing section. With that ridiculous music, it always cracks me up... Also, *_Tony Jay_* , the voice of *_"Frodo"_* the *_"Hunchback of Notre Dame"_* is in this game. Yeah... How rad is *THAT?* )
    • *_"Hooray For Puzzles!"_* (As with many other *_"Sierra"_* games, you help *_"Alexander"_* solve various puzzles in order to make progress in the game. Most of them are very simple, while others require your noggin. It's pretty fun.)
    NEGATIVES
    • *_"WHOA! Wait a Minute!"_* ([GROANS] At one point in the game, you have to help Alexander through a staircase of protruding stones... by clicking on them... with the right timing! And there's a lot of them! It's *VERY* annoying and easily the worst part of the game. But hey! You get that hilarious *_"WHOA! Wait a Minute!"_* from Alex followed by the silly danger music. So, *that's* something to gain from this.)
    Final Rating: 9/10
    Another masterpiece. What more is there to say?
    *_"WHOA! Wait a Minute!"_*

    This was the first King's Quest game I ever played. Really got me into the series. It was pretty challenging for me when I was younger. I also have fond memories of the Bill & Ted game for pc. I think it came with like a phone book or something. Any chance of that game making an appearence? It's a decent point-and-click. Plus...it's Bill & Ted, so what could be better!
